1927 Ford Track Roadster Street Rod - Lightning Electric Car on 2040-cars
Eau Claire, Wisconsin, United States
This is the Lightning Electric Car that was featured on the 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_EiejWX_S4 and by Pete and Jakes Hot Rod Parts at the Back to 50’s car show in St. Paul, MN. This car is no stranger to the race track either. It has run successful tests at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI and at the Brainerd International Speedway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDEAtmMiz00&feature=plcp This is the first of its’ kind Lightning Electric Car (EV) with styling based on the sprint and indy cars of the 40’s and 50’s. The Lightning chassis features 4-wheel disc brakes, and independent front and rear suspension with cantilevered coil over QA1 shocks and rack and pinion steering in the front, and an independent rear axle with QA1 coil over shocks. This Lightning is powered by a Net Gain 9” DC motor, a 1000 amp Net Gain Industrial Controller, and 13-12 volt FMP deep cycle batteries. With the FMP batteries the Lightning Electric Car will take you up to 40 miles between charges, and recharging takes only about forty cents worth of electricity. Plenty of range for your 10-15 mile commute...and no need for a special charging station. It plugs in to a regular 110 volt outlet. The battery pack is easily upgradable to lithium ion batteries that will increase the range to about 100 miles. The current price for a lithium ion battery pack is around $8,000. Plenty of fun to be had with the $700 FMP battery pack for a couple of years until the cost of the lithium batteries becomes more affordable. The FMP batteries also come with an 18 month free replacement warranty. This Lightning has been driven over 2,200 trouble free miles since May 2012 on about $25 of electricity. Open air muscle car performance and zero emissions. It’s the most fun you can have driving. Make it yours. Price includes delivery to anywhere in Lower 48 Has it's own web page at http://lightningelectriccar.com

Watch Ken Block's scary Rally America crash from inside the cockpit
Wed, 19 Feb 2014Ken Block became famous for his series of Gymkhana videos, but he's a real racer in his own right. Block has competed many rounds in the FIA World Rally Championship and also rallied in the 2013 Rally America series. He nearly won that latter title last year - if not for a massive crash in the final event of the season.
Block and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino went into the Lake Superior Performance Rally needing a win to take the championship. However, missing a clump of dirt on the side of the road and one little word in the pace notes was all it took to catapult Block's Fiesta off the road and into a tumbling accident. Block says his initial reaction was anger because the crash came out of nowhere.
For 2014, Block is joining the FIA World Rallycross Championship for at least three rounds. He'll drive a Ford Fiesta for the Hoonigan Racing Division at the Norwegian, French and Turkish events of the 12-round championship. Former Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will also compete in the series.
Ford unveils next-gen S-Max in Europe
Tue, 16 Sep 2014Let's get this unfortunate though important tidbit out of the way right off the bat: The Ford S-Max isn't sold in the United States, and it's not coming here, at least not anytime soon. And so it's with our European friends in mind that we share this information about the next-gen S-Max (previewed about a year ago in concept form) that is set to debut all across Europe next year and will be shown off at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Now, moving on...
As with the first-gen S-Max, the new model will boast seating for seven passengers, along with a decent amount of storage space, all packed into a relatively reasonably sized package. Powering the front wheels (or optionally all four) will be the buyer's choice of EcoBoost gasoline-turbocharged or turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines along with automatic and manual transmission options. Included in the mix is a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 160 horsepower, though the 240-horse 2.0 is likely to be seen as the headliner.
There are all kinds of new technologies on offer, ranging from Adaptive Steering to Dynamic LED Headlamps with Glare-Free Highbeams, and it's all housed inside new, more sleekly designed bodywork riding atop a chassis with new suspension architecture designed to make the S-Max a people-hauler that's still fun to drive. For all the details, we suggest you scroll down below to read through Ford's official press release.
Ford Australia launches Falcon GT F 351, last of its line [w/video]
Sun, 15 Jun 2014It's always best to go out with a bang rather than a whimper, and Ford Performance Vehicles is doing just that in Australia with the Falcon GT F 351. It's the most powerful road car the Aussie performance brand has ever made with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 pumping out 471 horsepower (351 kilowatts) and 420 pound-feet of torque. It's joined by the FPV Pursuit Ute with the same powerplant tuned to 422 hp and 402 lb-ft. Sadly, the last F in this Falcon's name stands for Final.
The GT F 351 is a monumental way to go out, though. It harkens back to the old days of Aussie muscle Fords, and the 351kw output is meant to reference the classic Falcon GT and its 351-cubic-inch V8. In addition to the massive power, the F has the improved suspension from the R-Spec model and Brembo brake calipers.
FPV is building just 500 GT F sedans for Australia and 50 more for New Zealand, plus 120 Pursuit Utes. They feature a blacked-out hood and black stripes over the hood and sides, plus gloss black accents around the headlights, door handles and mirrors.
