Up for auction is a nice looking and running 1917 Model T touring car.  This is a four door body probably from Canada.  I bought this car with the idea to drive it and just have fun.  After thinking about it I don't need another Model T.  What you see in the pictures is pretty much how I bought it.  I did clean the engine and painted it just to make it look a lot better.  I also adjusted the bands and the high speed clutch fingers.  It is the original 17 engine and the numbers on the block match the title.  The engine starts and runs good.  I drove it down the road and it did just fine.  I was also able to change the optional Ruckstell two speed rear end on the fly just like it should.  It has a small drum Ruckstell rear end in it.  It looks like all four fenders are new or real nice originals.  All four wood spoke wheels look like they are also new reproductions.  The tires look to be new, but not sure how long they have been on the car.  The top is brand new and looks nice.  The interior is not brand new but is in real good shape.  The body is in good shape but you can see some blemishes under the doors where they may have done some body work at one time.  The drivers side splash apron has a dent in it just below the drivers door.  It has scratches in many places from use.  I think it was a car that someone used and that is what the paint looks like.  The glass looks to be safety glass too.  The mag horn works, but is not real loud.  No speedometer so mileage is unknown on this car....

I have started this car many times and it starts easy.  When it is cold, I just pull the choke and give the crank 2 or 3 short pulls with the key off.  I go to the side and turn the key to battery and it starts or will start most of the time if I move the spark up or down to make the coil fire.  Once it is warm it will only require 1 or 2 short pulls to make it fire with the key on.  It runs on mag too.  It has a 12 volt battery in it that makes it start easier and the head light bulbs are 12 volt also. (bright)  The chassis looks to be in good shape that may have been restored years ago.  I did not see any rust anywhere from the under side.  This car would make a great driver or parade car........

Ford of India in hot water for Figo celebrity bondage ads

Fri, 22 Mar 2013

Apparently sensibilities in India, at least in the case of some Ford marketing partners, are downright lascivious at times. Case in point are a new series of print ads, presumably touting the vast cargo capacity of the Ford Figo hatchback, that involve more than a whiff of T&A, S&M and other sexy abbreviations.
In all seriousness, the advertising campaign is taking some major heat in the Indian press for being outrageously sexist. All three images - which seem to be produced by a graphic artist with some Heavy Metal work in his/her portfolio - show bound and gagged people stuffed into the Figo's boot. With a tagline reads, "Leave Your Worries Behind." one version features a peace-sign throwing Silvio Berlusconi holding hostage three buxom and barely clad women, all wearing ball gags with hands and feet bound. Charming. Another version shows Paris Hilton similarly kidnapping a trio of Kardashians, while a third (tame in terms of the clothing at least), has Michael Schumacher toting Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and Lewis Hamilton.
Clearly in bad taste, at least, the Indian source also questions the timing of these risqué Ford ads, as the follow by days new anti-rape legislation passed by the Indian Parliament. Ford has responded in a statement, that it and its advertising partner (JWT India) "deeply regret" the ads, and claim that they "never should have happened."

Fields 'required' to use private aircraft, could make $5.25M as Ford CEO this year

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

Mark Fields' travels on the friendly skies will soon be a relatively personal affair, as the new CEO at Ford will be required to resume air travel via the company's private planes. Fields caught plenty of flak in 2007 for flying on the company's dime to visit his family in Florida. He's since flown commercial.
According to Ford spokesperson Susan Krusel, who spoke to Bloomberg, Fields (pictured above right, with Bill Ford, Jr. at center and Alan Mulally at left) will switch to private travel "for safety and to maximize his availability for company business." In addition to his new travel arrangements, the 53-year-old exec's salary and bonuses have been revealed.
Regulatory filings by Ford revealed that Fields, whose first day in the big chair was July 1, will receive a base salary this year of $1.25 million and he'll be eligible for $3.5 million in bonuses, both of which are lower than Alan Mulally's $2 million salary and $5.88 million in bonuses received last year. That's also lower than General Motors CEO Mary Barra's alleged $1.6-million salary and considerably less than Sergio Marchionne's $3.19-million fixed salary from Fiat. Despite falling short of other CEOs, Fields' new pay still represents a 33-percent increase over his pay as Chief Operating Officer.
