1913 Model T Ford Fire Brigade Car Body Or Whole Car on 2040-cars

1913 Ford Model T New Zealand Fire Brigade car body.

This auction is for the fire brigade car body only but the auction may be ended early for successful offer on complete car.   For sale is the body, seats, ladder and brackets, bell, siren, nozzle, fire extinguisher, axe, Merryweather fireman's helmet. Note: this auction does not include the running gear, fenders, splash aprons, hood, firewall, steering etc.

This car is an incredible amount of fun to drive, it always draws a crowd. It is fun on tours and is in constant demand for displays, parades, and events. It is set up with seat belts to make it safe to carry small children. People tell me it reminds them of riding a fire truck at Disneyland, only more fun!

The body has hardwood framing and aluminum body panels. Storage compartments are located in the hose tray under the brigade seats, under the driver's seat, and in the rear compartment. The body comes with the bell, spot light, nozzle, one Merryweather helmet, seatbelts, ladder and mounts, standpipe and brackets, and hand cranked siren. Forged steel anchors for seat belts (belts included) are hidden under the 24' extension ladder. Stop lights have been concealed in the hose connectors visible at the rear of the car.

In 1913 the New Zealand fire Service purchased their first motorized vehicles. Several 1913 Ford chassis were procured and sent to the body builder. In January 1914 the brigade cars were sent to the stations for equipping. This car is a copy of the New Plymouth, New Zealand fire brigade car. One original brigade car (1923) exists, this replica is the only 1913 style brigade car in existence.

This car is currently on a right had drive chassis like the originals were but it can be mounted up to any Ford Model T chassis, right or left hand drive. I will consider sale of the whole car by offer. The whole car would include above and fenders and splash aprons which are powder coated, as well as the 1913 running gear which are not included in the auction. The car has auxillary AC brakes acting on custom made cast iron rear drums. The firewall, horn and right hand drive steering are included as is the engine hood which is an original in poor condition. The engine has a Chaffin driver cam, Stan Howe Stromberg OF carburetor and a recent rebuild.  Unfortunately the engine has a crack in the underside of the water jacket which occasionally weeps a little.  This car is a reproduction based on the 1913 New Plymouth fire car as it was equipped in 1916 so it has gas headlamps converted to electricity. The front tires are a bit worn and will need replacing. I have held off on replacing tires as this car really should have all white tires to match the era. Right now it is running rebuilt brass top coils and a 12V battery.

Ford shows off V8-powered Ranger headed to Dakar Rally

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Avert your eyes now if you're jealous that the global version of the Ford Ranger is not offered in the US. Ford's midsize pickup is being tuned up to take on the 2014 Dakar Rally, and the result is a truck that is probably even cooler than any F-150 SVT Raptor we've ever seen in the States. Ford is actually building two versions of the truck for Dakar, which will run from January 5 through January 18, covering more than 5,000 miles from Argentina to Chile.
Starting with a fully composite body and a 5.0-liter V8 plucked from a Mustang, nearly every aspect of the trucks have been purpose built to take on the grueling race. This includes things like the six-speed sequential gearbox, liquid-cooled rear brakes and the 132-gallon fuel tank. As proof that Dakar is more about endurance than speed, the engines used in these race trucks will be limited to around 350 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, and will max out at a top speed of just 105 miles per hour. Scroll down for Ford's official press release offering more information about the trucks and teams being prepped for Dakar.

Motor Trend pits Subaru WRX vs. Ford Focus ST

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

The Ford Focus ST has enjoyed a relatively calm, if brief, reign in the world of hot hatches. With nothing else in the class (in the States, at least) but the aging Mazdaspeed3 and Subaru Impreza WRX and the slow-selling Volkswagen Golf R, the Blue Oval's 252-horsepower five door has been the go-to vehicle for those that don't need the high-octane lunacy (and expense) of the rally bred Subaru Impreza WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.
Now, though, as the new Subaru WRX (it's not an Impreza anymore, though, neither is it a hatchback...) starts to arrive at dealers, the Focus ST appears to be under threat for the first time. Naturally, Motor Trend is here to figure out which one is the best, with another one of its Head 2 Head videos. Host Jonny Lieberman puts both cars through their paces, going above and beyond, quite literally, at the very end of the video.

Ford Mustang pinball machine has supple wrist, plays by sense of smell [w/video]

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

Ford didn't have anything major to show off at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, so it seems it instead opted to have some fun - it brought a row of pinball machines to the show. Yes, pinball machines.
We originally told you about the Stern Pinball Ford Mustang machine a few days ago, and as day two of the Chicago show is a bit of a slow one, we opted to head to the show floor and get some snaps of the bank of new machines. Not surprisingly, there's plenty for the Mustang fan in each of these machines, ranging frond different models, to logos to a full model.
Take a look below for our full gallery of live shots, available up top. Then head below for our original gallery of stock images, along with a video and press release on the new machines.
