This is an amazing car that was built by some very talented professional builders in Texas back in 2010. With only 1,500 miles, it is like a newly built car from the 60's that been fully sorted! That era was the inspiration for this awesome show winning coupe.

Let's get to the technical details of this fine coupe:

The steel body has been chopped 2.5", and channeled 6" inches giving it that BITCH'N stance! It has a one of a kind, hand fabricated firewall, a full metal roof skin, a very 60's inspired dimpled and drilled visor (which is completely molded into the body), and a cool motorcycle gas cap.

The Radiator shell is from a 32 Ford and it has a handmade grille insert. I still have all the door pulls if you like that looks, I didn't care for it that much. The custom Candy-apple Green & Pearl White paint with custom scallops and pin stripes are ultra-show quality and is CRAZY eye popping! The killer pinstriping is buried deep in the clear coat, go ahead - wax it up, don't worry about distorting the stripes!

I know you'd agree; the results speak for themselves.

The motor is a classic early 60's Buick 401 "Nail-head" torque MONSTER V-8. Some features include a Drag Star long intake manifold, SIX Stromberg '97' carbs, and Sanderson lake headers (with baffles). The matching painted engine is dressed up with Fenton Valve and Sparkplug covers. Each carb has been adorned with matching air-cleaners (very Cal Custom!). The car sounds insane and runs fantastic! It's really not that loud when cruising. An MSD and Pertronix electronic ignition set up fires the powerful Buick mill. Other items include an electric fuel pump with kill switch, and a hidden battery kill switch that aids in theft prevention.

A freshly built Buick Turbo 400 3-spd automatic transmission feeds the 80's monte SS GM 10 bolt posi rear end which is running 3:08's. Noting some of the detail in this car - the bell housing is even pin striped since you can see it from the top! Nothing was overlooked in this build...

The modified Ford frame features heavily striped '32 rails, a front 4 link suspension, chrome shocks and a T-Bucket Style coil spring/shock setup is out back.

The wheels are classic 15x5 and 15x8 chrome-reverse with cutom cone caps. They are wrapped in classic bias ply 6.40x15 Firestone wide whites in front with 8.20x15 wide white "cheater slicks" on the rear.

The front brakes are DISC with Buick drum covers and chrome backing plates, the rear are heavy duty drums, GM std issue.

The interior has some very unique touches. The aluminum bomber seats with engine turned seatbacks and custom fiberglass surround makes it truly one of a kind. I get comments on them ALL THE TIME! The seat upholstery is georgous - pleated pearl white vinyl, with matching door panels, headliner, and floor/kick panels . The metal dash is filled with real nice, vintage style gauges. The shifter is a custom Lokar unit.

I can just imagine how much time and money went into this one of a kind rod. This final results screams 60's show car with the today's technology - it even has LED tail lights!

NOTE - THIS IS MY PERSONAL CAR - IT'S NOT A CONSIGNMENT!
It's titled in MY name and has a small loan on it, so JJ Best will need to be paid before they release the title.

Formula Drift kicks off 11th season on Streets of Long Beach

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

The 2014 Formula Drift series kicked off last weekend in Long Beach, and saw Chris Forsberg, who you'll recall went mad and drifted around a warehouse in an Infiniti M, take the title behind the wheel of his Hankook Tire Nissan 370Z (shown above).
Forsberg really ran away with the first round of competition, outscoring his closest opponent, second-place finisher Kenneth Moen and his Bridges Racing Nissan 240SX, by 20 points. Third place was 2013 championship winner Michael Essa and his Yokohama BMW M3, 30.5 points behind Forsberg.
In the manufacturers' title, Nissan took an early lead with 122 points, which isn't a huge surprise considering five of the top ten drifters were piloting either a Z or a product of the brand's S platform. Ford, which had two drivers (Justin Pawlak and Vaughn Gittin, Jr.) in the top ten, took home second place, while BMW is currently third in the manufacturers' standings.

Consumer Reports says these are the worst new cars of 2014

Thu, 27 Feb 2014

Consumer Reports has announced its annual list of worst vehicles, a cringe-inducing contrast to its list of top vehicles. Ignominiously leading the way in 2014 is Chrysler, which has a staggering seven models listed.
Jeep nearly sweeps the small SUV segment by itself, with its Compass, Patriot and 2.4-liter version of the new Cherokee, while the only midsize sedans listed by CR were the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger. The new Dodge Dart and the Dodge Journey round out CR's condemnation of Chrysler.
Ford is taking heat as well, with the Taurus, Edge and their counterparts from Lincoln all listed as the worst vehicles in their respective segments. Toyota doesn't fare much better, with its Lexus IS, Scion iQ and tC also making the list.

Car companies used to cook up sales with recipe books

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

The evolution of automotive marketing has undergone a number of strange phases. Few, though, match the strangeness of the 1930s to 1950s, when automotive marketers turned to cookbooks as a means of promoting their vehicles. Yes, cookbooks. We can't make this stuff up, folks.
This bizarre trend led to General Motors distributing cookbooks under the guise of its then-subsidiary Frigidaire. Ford, meanwhile, offered a compilation of recipes from Ford Credit Employees (shown above). The cookbook-craze wasn't limited to domestic manufacturers, though. As The Detroit News discovered, both Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen got in on the trend, although not until the 1970s.
The News has the full story on this strange bit of marketing. Head over and take a look.
