  • Offering for sale at no reserve (as usual) one 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. This car is 50 years old this year!  It looks like it has never had any work done on the body except where we fixed some rock chips and a small rust spot in the left rear quarter - a mud trap area and years before it was parked the right fender had been replaced and painted. The paint on the right fender is chipping now.   The floors and trunk look good showing original paint and no surface rust.  The motor is a 289 that has 200 miles on a complete overhaul including new .040 over pistons, turned the crank .010-.010 and all new cam, lifters, valve job etc. Even put new belts, hoses, starter, bypass hose, heater hoses, water pump and thermostat. This is not a rering job outback under the apple tree! The motor runs smooth with plenty of power (it's no hot rod, but, surprisingly, has a lot of get up and go). This car has power enough to pass cars in short order even though the motor built to stock specs. Really surprised me. We replaced the muffler.  The tires are new (we have driven them less that 200 miles). The seats, carpet, and headliner are new. Wheel cylinders new with remanufactured brake linings and wheel bearings repacked. This is one of those cars that will probably be good for another 50 years with a little attention to the exterior. This car is just the thing to take the grand kids to the zoo. We have gone through this cars major mechanics. The only things I know to do is the blower motor switch does not work. The speedometer jumps when extremely cold and the gas guage reads 3/4 when it is actually full but goes way below empty. Drives and rides smooth as silk. Can be picked up and driven home anywhere and I would not be afraid of it. This was a true barn find from an old farmer in Scott City in dry climate western Kansas who last plated it in 1977 due to a miss in the motor that he could not get out. I originally was going to part it out but the car was so solid and original that I could not bring myself to do it (we generally do not restore 4drs). After finding the miss in the motor (a broken compression ring on cylinder # 5) we just pulled it apart and completely overhauled the motor, clutch, brakes and most of the interior. New windshield and back glass gaskets, headliner, carpet and NORS fairlane (not galaxie) seat covers. When we stripped the interior the floors were amazing having original paint on therm. Everything we replaced in the interior was due to age and being dried up from sitting. Could use new door gaskets due to being flattened from age but the car feels and sounds tight. You cannot buy a car this solid and do what has been done to it for the low reserve price we have on it.
  •  Selling with intention of needing restoration of rest of minor components.
  •  It has a good title.
  • The car can be stored here for up to 6 months - after that we will come up with a monthly fee.
  • Possible delivery if you are within 400 miles of central Kansas south or west for a fee.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
  • If you would like a better look at anything we can send more pictures.
  • We expect payment within 5 working days of the end of the auction.

NHTSA investigating 500k Ford and Mercury cars for lighting failures

Mon, Apr 6 2015

The Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis might be long gone as new models in showrooms, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration might check them out yet again for a potential problem. At the urging of North Carolina Consumers Council, the agency may open another investigation into the front lighting control module on vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years, and NHTSA estimates the issue could affect 517,945 vehicles. If the module stops working, it can cause a complete failure of all forward lighting, including the headlights. NHTSA previously investigated the issue in 2008 and 2009 but found no need for a recall, according to Bloomberg. Ford also extended the warranty on the part to 15 years or 250,000 miles. To prompt this new request, the North Carolina Consumers Council received a letter from a woman experiencing the module's failure. Upon further investigation, the council found 604 complaints of this problem on NHTSA's website, including seven crashes. Furthermore, the group has alleged that dealers told customers that the parts to perform the replacement weren't available, despite the extended warranty. According to the government agency, "A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and make a grant or deny decision." Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker tells Autoblog via email, "We will cooperate with NHTSA, as we always do." You can read the council's complete letter to the Feds in PDF format, here. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlamp/exterior lighting Date Investigation Opened: APR 01, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: DP15002 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received a petition from the North Carolina Consumers Council, Inc. requesting a defect investigation of an alleged defect condition resulting in headlight and/or exterior lighting failure on 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles. The petition letter is attached for review. The petitioner alleges a defect in the lighting control module that powers the headlights which can result in the loss of vehicle headlights and/or all exterior lighting while driving. ODI has previously investigated this issue under PE08-066 which was closed without a defect finding.

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.

2015 Ford Focus ST zooming toward Goodwood reveal [w/video]

Mon, 23 Jun 2014

Ford has quite a party ready for the Goodwood Festival of Speed starting on June 27. Not only is the 2015 Mustang going to be driving in front of the European public for the first time, the Blue Oval is also unveiling its 2015 refresh for the Focus ST.
Official details about the latest Focus hot hatch are practically nonexistent at this point. Ford's teaser image shows narrower headlights, and the company says that the ST also benefits from the technical and quality improvements from the refreshed standard model, which likely means an even more Aston-Martin-like grille. However, any improvements for the power or handling are a mystery for now.
Ford will even give visitors to the festival the chance to drive the new ST - at least virtually. Gran Turismo 6 kiosks will be on hand with the hot hatch loaded up to race the Goodwood Hill Climb. There will also be real-time races between former Stig Ben Collins in the real ST challenging a player up the hill in the game.
