1972 Ford Galaxie 500 2dr hardtop
Engine: 400-2V M Trans: SelectShift 3 speed C-6 (code U) Ivy Bronze Metallic Green (4C) w/green vinyl top and green 500 cloth interior 3.89 rear gear ratio (code 2) approx miles: 81K OPTIONS & FEATURES Air Conditioning, AM radio, seatbelt warning, seatback locks, spare tire and jack, driver outside mirror, chrome lower trim, chrome body side moldings, full wheel covers, painted pin-stripes, power steering, power brakes, front disk & rear drum brakes, HISTORY: Vehicle was built in Ford's Chicago plant (code 41). Per the daughter of the original owner: Original owner bought vehicle from Elmhurst Ford (Elmhurst, IL.) as a vacation road trip car. He worked 3 blocks from home and walked to work. She recalled several vacations in the car and that her dad always took extra special care of the car and rarely drove it. Car very well taken care of from day one. He passed and the title was transferred into his daughters name for resale from the estate. Vehicle was then sold to me with 72k miles on it in 2006. UPDATES AND REPAIRS: After going through the car it was very apparent that the vehicle had been stored in the gentleman's garage for several years. Since my intentions from go was to have my older parents drive the car for local car shows and antique car tours, I went over the entire car and made sure that all options on the car worked. I then also replaced; tires, brake pads & shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and machined rotors and drums. Replaced few upper end gaskets, 160 degree thermostat, tune-up, pcv, air cleaner element, drive belts, flushed fluids, and installed Petronix ignition. Set base timing at 8 degrees and rebuilt the carburetor with one step up on the jet. Recharged the A/C with R-12. MY OWNERSHIP: Car has been basically trouble free for the 8 years I have owned it. Stored during the winter months, under a cover, in a heated warehouse. Summer months car gets driven to cars shows, cruise nights, and car club driving tours, otherwise parked indoors. It is now time to charge the A/C again. I have not been able to locate R-12 at this time. A/C will need to be charged and could be filled with R-134A, but in the spirit of keeping it original, I was holding out for R-12. Blower motor switch works on low and high only. I have not been able to find a replacement. Found a 1973 but it is not the same switch. Car could use a freshening again after the past 8 years of use. Meaning tune up and maybe a another carb rebuild. CONDITION: • Body and paint in very original great shape. One very minor ding up high on the quarter panel, but you will have to look very hard to find it. To skyline the sides of the vehicle it is very straight with very minor dings. Paint in great shape shines with no real blemishes to speak of. Painted stripe in great condition. Body does have some minor rust in the lower quarter panels by the wheel opening. Very minor and has not grown in size since I have owned the car. Car is very impressive, shows very well, and draws a crowd every time. • Interior in very nice condition; no rips, tears, or cracks. Carpet has minor wear on driver's side, but still in very nice condition. Doors cards are trouble free, seats, package tray, dash, cluster, etc. Smells like 1972. Interior shows very well. • Vinyl top in very nice condition; no rips, tears, or cracks. All corners very tight no lifting, no discoloration apparent. • Trim very presentable and in nice condition. Most trim is way above average. Bumper has small ding and a few on the stainless trim. Black outs on grille still black. All trim shows very well. • Trunk in very nice condition with factory coating still in place. No dents or rust to speak of. Factory jack and spare tire in place. • Engine bay in original survivor condition. This area could use some attention. Very minor surface rust and fading from heat. All mechanicals work as they should. I have not made any attempt to repaint anything under the hood due to the class the car enters at car shows. • Undercarriage does have some rust. Floors, body, and chassis is very solid, but does have a coating of rust due to ownership and garage parked in the Midwest. No real major concerns, just cosmetic. Galaxie has won multiple trophies and plaques at point shows, judged shows, as well as peoples' choice. Placing from first to third in 70's original closed. AACA concourse and survivor classes. Car has taken a trophy at every show it has been to. Very clean and original; my favorite part of the car is the paint inspection sticker from the factory is still on the cowl. Recharge Wrap-up: Ford's "snowtonomous" Fusion Hybrid, Porsche eyes battery makers
Fri, Mar 11 2016Bosch and Panasonic are vying to be the battery supplier for Porsche's electric sports car based on the Mission E concept. While Bosch's costs may be higher, its solution would offer simpler logistics. Panasonic is already well established as a battery maker, providing the packs for the Porsche car's rival, Tesla. "We're in the final stage of making a decision," says Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, declining to comment on specific manufacturers. Neither Bosch nor Panasonic provided comment. Read more from Automotive News. Renault will supply a fleet of 150 Renault Zoe EVs for a smart solar charging project in Utrecht, Netherlands. The project involves the installation of 1,000 EV chargers powered by 10,000 photovoltaic panels. The Renault Zoes would be used as part of a carsharing program powered by the solar chargers. Renault and its partners will also implement a vehicle-to-grid system to provide energy during peak demand from the solar chargers and connected EVs. Read more in the press release from Renault. Ford has been testing an autonomous Fusion Hybrid prototype that is capable of driving itself in snowy conditions. Ford uses 3D mapping to scan the drive route. Its LiDAR laser mapping can even detect single falling snowflakes. It collects and processes up to 600 gigabytes of data per hour, comparing its environment to saved maps, a process that helps establish location more precisely than GPS. In addition to the LiDAR systems, the car is also equipped with cameras and radar to help it navigate. Eventually, the car could even be able to clean off its sensors when it detects loss of performance from ice and dirt. Read more in the press release below. FROM AUTONOMY TO SNOWTONOMY: HOW FORD FUSION HYBRID AUTONOMOUS RESEARCH VEHICLE CAN NAVIGATE IN WINTER DEARBORN, Mich., March 10, 2016 – Driving in snow can be a slippery challenge, with the potential for one blizzardy gust to white-out your field of view – a situation faced by the majority of people in the United States. So if self-driving cars are to become a reality – and they almost certainly will – they must be able to navigate snow-covered roads. In its quest to bring self-driving vehicles to millions of people around the world, Ford reveals six facts about its technology that allows for a car to drive itself in snow. 1. Mapping the way: Ford first creates high-resolution 3D maps using LiDAR technology to scan the area its autonomous vehicle will later drive in the snow.
Ford sells 7-millionth Explorer in America
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Say what you will about the evolution of the Ford Explorer, from roofed Ranger to body-on-frame sport utility vehicle to unibody crossover - the bottom line is that it's been a tremendously successful model for Ford. In fact, the Blue Oval automaker has sold seven million Explorer models in the United States alone.
The milestone, marked nearly a quarter-century after the introduction of the original in 1990, comes on the eve of the introduction of a new Explorer at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. We don't yet know how the new Explorer will shape up, but we're mere days away from finding out.
Now heading into its sixth generation, the Explorer has formed the basis of Ford's utility lineup for over two decades. The Explorer landed on the market right around the time that the Bronco was trailing off, predating the company's expansion into larger SUVs like the Expedition and Excursion and crossovers like the Escape, Edge and Flex.
Ford won't be releasing GT500 lap times for the 'Ring, or any other car
Wed, 27 Nov 2013Trucks have towing capacity, EVs have driving range and performance cars have Nürburgring lap times. What do all three have in common? They should all be taken with a grain of salt. Currently, there is no sanctioned way to record lap times or verify production-spec cars - a lesson we recently learned with the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo - and until there is a way to do so (and there probably never will be), we'll never officially know the actual time it took for Ford to lap the 'Ring with its ultra-powerful Shelby GT500.
After posting a Ford-made video of a 2013 GT500 running around the 'Ring, the guys over at SVTPerformance.com (an enthusiasts forum not affiliated with Ford or SVT) wanted more answers. They got in touch with Ford's Global Performance Vehicle Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi, who said until there is a way to verify the times and inspect the cars, Ford will not get involved with lap-time wars. In the email, Hameedi pointed out that the 'Ring is a useful tool in that it allows a wide spectrum of track conditions, but until there is a governed way to record times, there is no way to accurately compare cars head-to-head.
And as much as some may not like it, Hameedi speaks the truth. It really isn't possible to compare times from one car to another, unless those cars were lapping the same track at the same time with the same driver. Not that any of this means there won't be continuous wars by fans and manufacturers alike... in other words, feel free to voice your opinions in the Comments below.
