I am the thrid owner of this 10 passenger 1969 Ford Country Squire Wagon. It started life from Billingsley Ford in Porterville, Ca., remaining there until it moved to the second owner in Humboldt Country Ca. I bought it from that owner in 2006. It has lived in dry climates, except Humboldt County, where it sat in the weather 5 years.

The Squire was ordered as a trailer towing package, and has new air shocks in the back. A hitch is insalled with trailer light plugs. I have never attempted towing with this vehicle, so am unsure of the hitch or wiring.

This vehicle is absolutely complete, with all original trim, mirrors, radio, speakers,  and speaker grills. I have removed some components to storage during phases of work on the vehicle.

I have spent $18000 on this vehicle, including the following:

1. Rebuilt 429 engine and C6 transmission with less than 2,000 miles on the rebuild.

2. New upholstery on front two seats, using OEM stock. The upholstery on the rear jump seats is original, and matches the new work.

3. New carpet

4. Dashboard and rear interior panels restored by Dash Restorations of Oregon.

5. New A/C Sanden compressor, evaporator, hoses and coolant.

6. Numerous extra parts, including a front passenger side fender extension, extra headlight door, and other parts too numerous to mention.

7. New tailgate motor

8. All lights work on this car, as well as the headlight doors.

What this vehicle needs:

1. New carburetor. It is quite drivable, but the 429 was designed for leaner fuel mixtures. It would perform optimally with a new Holly or Edelbrock.

2. New wiring to the tailgate.

3. The A/C blower is currently non-operational.

4. A good paint job and new "woody" panels.

5. Restoration to the fiberglass trim.

6. New headliner

7. A warm garage.

Problems with the vehicle:

1. Surface rust on the body from its days in Humboldt. This has not appeared to spread since I acquired the vehicle.

2. The regulator on the passenger vent needs replacement. This New Old Stock part is included.

3. A minor coolant leak on the top connection to the intake manifold.

4. Minor leak from throttle pump on carburetor.

5. Rust hole in rear floor pan under jumpseats.

6. The horn only operates if the wheel is turned side to side. This can be fixed with a new turn signal switch.

I have tried to represent this vehicle to the best of my ability. I would love to keep this car and finish the restoration, but lack the resources to do so. This car needs to go to a good, loving home.

Many thanks for your interest!

J Mays' legacy

Fri, 15 Nov 2013

Mays is by far not the first designer to use heritage design cues in his work.
The announcement that J Mays will be leaving his chief creative officer role at Ford Motor Company on January 1 ends a 13-year run in one of the industry's top design roles. While best known for having a hand in reborn classics like the Volkswagen New Beetle, Ford Mustang and Thunderbird (above), Mays' legacy is more complicated and nuanced than being considered the father of what is known as "retrofuturism".

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Mustang driver proves wheels are overrated

Mon, 21 Apr 2014

We don't need to tell you that there's something missing in the image above. What we do need to tell you is that this is not a picture of a parked car stranded on the highway. This is, rather, just one frame from video of that three-wheeled Mustang traveling down the highway at highway-appropriate speed.
We don't know where you'd have to be nor how badly you'd have to be there to go shooting down the freeway in a car with three wheels, but if the New Daily News is correct, that place is somewhere in Texas. The video's short, but you'll have plenty of time to shake your head at it by just scrolling down.
