1969 Ford Galaxie 500 XL
Up for sale is a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 XL. This car is incredibly rare, not only because of the color combination, but also because it is a highly original vehicle. This car has only been owned by one family since new, and was very well taken care of.
Exterior
-The Lime Gold color paint is the original color, but was repainted once, many years ago. It shows very well, and there are no major scratches or chips.
-The black vinyl top is original. It has some very light scuffs and a few small holes, but is in decent shape. It has the glass rear window.
-The power top mechanism works like new.
-All of the lights work, and the front headlight bucket turns around just as it should.
-The wheels are original, and are in excellent shape. The tires have lots of tread left.
-The brightwork is all original and in great condition, as is all of the chrome on the car.
-The panels on this car are very straight, and are all original.
-This Galaxie is incredibly solid. The trunk, floorboards, frame, and everything is as solid as could be. There are no rust issues whatsoever anywhere on the car (look at the door jambs).
-Everything on this car is original, except for one repaint.
Interior
-The white interior is original, and is in excellent shape. There are no tears or stains.
-The original black carpet great shape.
-The radio and 8-track player work, as well as all of the gauges.
-The original owner’s manual is present, along with several original documents that came with the car, and many maintenance records.
-The power windows work, as does the antenna.
-The headliner is very tight, and the top is well-insulated.
-The original white convertible top boot is in excellent shape.
-The courtesy lights work, as do the dash lights.
-This convertible is air conditioned (brand new pump). The climate control works well. I have yet to put the R12 in it. Once it is in the car, it will work great.
Drivetrain
-The original 390 ci (with a 2 bbl carb) engine has only 35k original miles on it. The engine has never been out of the car. That is 35k miles from the factory!
-The engine, factory rated at 265 horsepower, pulls strong.
-The automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and goes in and out of gear as it should.
-The power steering and power brakes work well, and are very responsive.
-The suspension is original, and the car rides and drives like a dream.
-The vin is 9W61Y186758.
This car is an incredible find, and a very high quality survivor. There were only 6,910 convertibles produced in 1969. The number of original, Lime Gold on White, 390 ci, air conditioned models that are still on the road today is very, very low. Do not miss out on this one. Finding another one like it would be a very tough task. Feel free to ask any questions through eBay, or call Dave at (586) 945-4266. More pictures are available upon request. All reasonable offers will be considered. Thanks!

Ford reveals concept trucks that ultimately became Atlas
Wed, 03 Apr 2013The Ford Atlas Concept was one of the quiet success stories of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and now Ford has given us a quick glimpse as to how that creation came to be. Designers actually combined two early sketches to build the Atlas. One, called the Bullet Train, is a futuristic, aerodynamic creation, while the other, aptly named the Locomotive, features the squared off proportions we're familiar with.
Once designers settled on the truck's proportions, they began nailing down exactly which attributes they wanted the final design to have. The Concept's notched windshield originated as a forked glass roof that seamlessly transitioned into the windscreen.
Likewise, designers wanted to fit the truck's tailgate with a storage compartment for tools and a first aid kit, but settled on the dual-purpose step/cargo cradle. Interestingly enough, the concept's active aero shutter wheels actually originated in some of the earliest sketches. Check out the photos and slides here for a closer look.
2015 Ford Focus gets more Aston-y [w/video]
Tue, 04 Mar 2014With more and more members of the Ford brand adopting a new familial face, the Focus has been left looking like an odd man out. At the Geneva Auto Show, though, it properly rejoined the family, adopting the now familiar Aston Martin-ish grille that's proliferated throughout the range.
Overall, we're liking the refreshed Focus' look. Aside from the new grille, the headlights have been restyled and now look like elongated versions of the lamps on the Focus ST. Functionally, those headlamps are bi-xenon units, complete with an adaptive front lighting system. Out back, the rear retains the same overall look, which has been smoothed out for 2015.
In the cabin, the second-generation of Ford's much-maligned Sync system makes its debut. Sync 2, as it's called, is supposedly more intuitive than the first-gen system. Ford is promising "one-shot" navigation functions for the system. Saying "I'm hungry," should bring up a list of nearby restaurants. Of course, we'll be reserving final judgment until we can test the new system in person.
Should heavy-duty pickup trucks have window stickers with fuel mileage estimates?
Sat, Sep 23 2017If you were to stroll into your nearest Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Nissan, or Ram dealership, you'd find a bunch of pickup trucks. Most of those would have proper window stickers labeled with things like base prices, options prices, location of manufacture, and, crucially, fuel economy estimates. But you'd also run across a number of heavy-duty trucks with no such fuel mileage data from the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA doesn't require automakers to publish the valuable miles-per-gallon measurement for vehicles with gross weight ratings that exceed 8,500 pounds. That makes it difficult for consumers to compare behemoths powered by turbocharged diesel engines – between one another, and between smaller, gasoline-fueled trucks. Consumer Reports doesn't think it should be this way, and it's spearheading an effort (PDF link) to get the government to require manufacturers to publish fuel economy estimates. In its own testing, CR found that heavy-duty pickups powered by Ford's Power Stroke, GM's Duramax, and FCA's Cummins diesel engines (which doesn't include the Ram's EcoDiesel) get worse fuel mileage than their lighter-duty gas-powered siblings. We're not so sure HD-truck buyers are unaware of this fact – big diesels don't really come into their own until big loads are placed in their beds or attached to their trailer hitches. Under heavy workloads, the diesel trucks will almost certainly return greater efficiency than a similar gas-powered truck. What's more, HD trucks with lumbering diesels in general make the driver feel more confident while towing due to greater torque at low engine RPM than gas trucks. They also offer greater max-weight limits. Still, we agree EPA fuel mileage estimates should be offered for heavy-duty pickups. And we think the comparisons provided by Consumer Reports might be interesting to potential buyers. Click here to see the results of CR's tests, and let us know what you think using the poll below.
