1968 Ford Xl (galaxie Xl) *beautiful Running Project* on 2040-cars
Tucson, Arizona, United States
For Sale . . . . Gorgeous, running project car (or make take it as is for your daily driver!) 1968 Ford XL (Galaxie 500 XL) rare 2 door fastback. The 1968 Ford XL (Galaxie 500 was dropped from the series name in 1967, but still a Galaxie) is the first year with concealed headlights (they work perfectly), the upgraded base V8 (302 cc; 4.9 L), and shoulder belts in the front. This vehicle also has the front disc brakes.
Car is in very good condition. The interior is clean. There is one patched 4 inch cut on the OEM replica headliner that is near the trim so it isn't very visible. Everything else is original. Leather seats are in great condition (one small tear on passenger seat, approximately 1 inch long). As seen in pictures, front windshield has a crack in it, but it has been there for years. There are, of course, some small dents, but these are on the bumpers (as seen in pics). The body is very straight. Has original motor and transmission. Engine runs fine and tranny shifts fine, car has never left me stranded. Also, it has passed emissions here in Tucson every year that I've had it. I actually had it registered with historic vehicle insurance this year, so it is now emissions exempt, so I did not have to run it through emissions this year. All of the trim is present (except for the chrome trim on the lower rear quarter panel on the passenger side), although the trim is more in daily driver shape than show quality. The first owner replaced the hood and driver side quarter panel in the 90s. The original paint was dark brown, but the car is currently painted brown. It will need a new paint job as the AZ sun has been working it's magic (see pics). Has AC, but the compressor needs to be replaced, otherwise should work fine. Vaccuum lines have all recently been replaced so headlights, windshield washers, etc work. Only defrost vent is not getting air. The front and rear window seals will need to be replaced as they are leaking slightly, but door window seals have been replaced. Car has all parts of the original jack except for the bumper hook. That will need to be found on salvage/ebay. This is a wonderful car that gets a ton of compliments whenever it is on the road. It would be an incredible project car. |

2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost already hitting 12-second quarters
Sun, 28 Sep 2014The arrival of a new Ford Mustang means many things to many people, but not least of them is drag racers. The pony car has always been a mainstay of the drag strip, and the Ford Racing team aims to carry that reputation forward with this latest generation. So it cooked up a few basic modifications on three new 'Stangs and headed to the strips at US 131 and Milan Dragway to see what they could coax out of 'em.
Impressively, the 5.0-liter V8 Mustang GT with a few modifications (but no forced induction) managed to clock a quarter-mile time of 11.77 seconds. Another Mustang GT fitted with a supercharger clocked a blistering 10.97 seconds. But just as intriguing was the modified EcoBoost model that, with only four cylinders and 2.3 liters of displacement, still passed the gates in just 12.56 seconds - nearly half a second better than expected. This with modification limited to a new subframe, half-shaft, drive shaft loops, exhaust, engine calibration, slicks, roll cage and bucket seat. Well done, boys.
Ford Escort testing, may be bound for Europe
Tue, 01 Apr 2014There has been little news about Ford's China-focused Escort concept since debuting at last year's Shanghai Motor Show, but the no-frills sedan has shown its camouflaged face again during cold weather testing in Northern Sweden. While far from a guarantee, the test location might hint that the Blue Oval plans to market the car outside of Asia.
The Escort's black robe and zebra paint make it hard to tell if anything specific has changed about the design, but the shape of the sedan looks close to what was shown in Shanghai. Under the disguise, you can still make out the hexagonal front grille from the concept. When Ford announced the model, the company said that the design wasn't supposed to be "arrogant or pretentious," and it certainly achieved that. The engine range is still a mystery, but it seems safe to expect small, economy-focused powertrains.
A report from last year indicated that Ford may be considering broadening the new Escort beyond Asia and possibly even selling it in Europe. The fact that the company brought it to Sweden for testing could bolster that argument. A release date hasn't been set yet, but the automaker has promised 15 new products for China by 2015. The basic sedan could be on the road soon.
Ford hybrids getting update to improve fuel economy
Tue, 16 Jul 2013Ford has announced that it is introducing "calibration updates designed to improve on-road fuel economy for owners of the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid, 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid."
We can speculate that these changes are at least due in part to lawsuits over mileage claims of hybrid vehicles. The automaker is enhancing 2013 models starting in August by raising their electric cruising speed to 85 miles per hour from 62 mph, optimizing the use of active grille shutters and the climate control system, shortening the engine warm-up period by 50 percent and reducing electric fan speed to minimize the fan's energy consumption.
It bears mentioning that Ford is doing pretty well in the US electrified vehicle market this year. The company claims to have grown its share in the segment by 12 points to 16 percent while taking a high number of Toyota Prius trade-ins in the process. Conversely, Toyota has experienced a five-percent drop in new-Prius sales over the same period. Additionally, Ford states that it has increased its share of the US vehicle market by one percent this year, more than any full-line automaker.
