1968 Ford Galaxie Xl Fastback - Southern Car - No Rust - Rebuilt 302 - Match #s on 2040-cars
Bristol, Virginia, United States
Here we have a beautiful 1968 Galaxie, XL, Fastback just waiting for someone to finish this girl up and take her for a cruise. This is a complete matching numbers car. What your viewing is my husband's year long dream of owning a classic car. The past year has been spent taking care of A LOT of mechanics with this vehicle, and it only needs a few more. I will begin by the history of this car, what it has in it, and what it needs. This car had one previous owner prior to us, and hailed from SC, when we got this car it did not have one spec of rust on it, only a tiny bit on the frame, but extremely minor. The gentleman who had it said the just over 60k showing on the ODM is all original. The car was obvious just a occasional driver because the only true wear to the car was the drivers seat. My husband purchased the vehicle with huge dreams of making this a show car, a year later we have found that our extremely busy schedules and work are just not allowing for all the time that we need to put into this to finish her. The car has had the following done: -Complete professional rebuild of the 302 auto ($2000 into this alone) -All hoses replaced -All brackets -NEW radiator and hoses -Newer battery -NEW fuel pump -Fuel tank was completely worked and redone -New plugs -New engine wiring -Rebuild of all drum brakes -NEW exhaust system, true dual exhaust -Steering lines and cables replaced -Joints, struts etc were replaced -A rebuilt carb was purchase but is not working correctly causing some flooding (only thing this needs to run 100%) -Some additional paint work -Complete professional frame coating to prevent frame from rusting ever -And a few others odds and ends
What this car needs to be 100% (of course that is all up to the new owner): -To be running 100% it needs current carb rebuilt or a new one. We purchased a supposed rebuilt one here on ebay but apparently was not because it is the only thing holding the vehicle back. The engine floods (we think) after a bit of driving or running. Just needs a carb in our opinion. As you can see in the start up video I post below the car cranks right up. -Paint needs some finishing in spots. When we got this car it had a paint job with vermillion red the original owner had done in thoughts of reviving his old car, although was not a complete job. A few spots such as inside the gas lid were not done. We had the complete engine compartment done, under hood, and under trunk. -It is missing the rear window molding -Missing a glove box wood piece -AC is all there but not connected - that will need some work to get going -Bumpers need some polish or rechroming -Tires are good, some chrome wheels would look great on this we just never got to it. -A few trim pieces touched up or reworked -Vacuum system works, just need a little help getting lights to flip up but they go down perfect -Drivers seat and carpet repair -Dash has small crack -Drivers door lock sometimes sticks -Other misc things
Of course with just the carb fix this car can be driven just as is, especially if you just want a driver to fix along the way. A lot of time and money has gone into this car in the past year and the hard parts have already been done - like engine work, brake work, all frame and structural things. These cars are not seen often. When you visit a car show you almost never see these, making them VERY rare and a good find. That is what attracted us to it.
A very fair reserve has been set on this car as we are only selling hoping to find it a good home and very much regret having to sell but it is for the best versus it just sitting in our driveway.
The car is located in Bristol, VA and all hauling/shipping must be at the cost and arrangements of the buyer. Title is in hand and free and clear. It will be given at full payment of the vehicle.
If you have any further questions please email and ask. Please only serious bidders.
Thanks for looking!

Ford demonstrates Mustang's new Line Lock burnout feature
Tue, 22 Apr 2014Been saving your pennies for a 2015 Ford Mustang? Put in a few extra shifts or some overtime? Got a great down payment ready? Well, however much you saved for your new pony car, start saving more - you'll need the extra money to spend on tires.
That's because the Mustang will come with a system called Line Lock, which can lock the front brakes electronically, allowing drivers to perform big, dumb, smoky burnouts without moving so much as an inch. It's sort of like launch control, only the average driver might actually use it.
Now, line locks aren't uncommon, particularly in drag racing. Usually, a flip of the switch locks the front brakes. The Mustang, besides offering the system from the factory which is unique in and of itself, looks a bit more involved.
Ford promises 12 new global performance vehicles through 2020
Thu, Dec 11 2014Ford just keeps rolling out the big announcements today. We've already told you about the next-gen Focus RS coming to the US and the upcoming Sync 3 infotainment system. And this latest one should perk up the ears of racing fans or anyone who enjoys an enthusiastic drive (basically, all Autoblog readers). The Blue Oval says it has "more than 12" new performance vehicles on the way globally through 2020. Unfortunately, the only one that the automaker confirms at the moment is the Focus RS, but recent rumors might suggest a few others. Ford reportedly has the Shelby Mustang GT350R, next-gen F-150 Raptor and a Ford GT successor all on the way, all of which could possibly debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The future GT might even take the company back to racing at Le Mans. Speaking of motorsports, Ford is also blending its performance vehicle and racing efforts worldwide into a unified entity by combining SVT, Team RS and Ford Racing into a new organization called Ford Performance. It's responsible not just for excelling on the track but also for developing aero improvements, electronics, powertrain and lightweight tech for the Blue Oval's vehicles. "Our new global Ford Performance team ties together racing, performance vehicles and parts. It will allow us to more quickly introduce products and accessories that meet the needs of customers around the world on-road and on the track," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development, in the company's press release. The automaker thinks this market might be booming, especially among younger buyers. For example, recent data shows Millennials buy ST models at twice the rate of the rest of Ford's cars. Scroll down to read the Blue Oval's full announcement of the new division and the plan to get excited about things to come. FORD DRIVING PERFORMANCE INNOVATION TO NEW LEVELS; MORE THAN 12 VEHICLES COMING FROM NEW GLOBAL TEAM Ford bringing more global performance vehicles to customers worldwide; more than 12 new performance vehicles through 2020 – including Focus RS – to be available globally Ford uniting regional performance engineering and racing teams as one global team under Ford Performance, delivering more new vehicles and parts, more quickly Ford will deliver more than 12 new performance vehicles for global enthusiasts through 2020, as the company announced today its new global Ford Performance team.
Ford Fiesta ST orders off to strong start
Fri, 17 May 2013We at Autoblog love the new little Ford Fiesta ST, and apparently, folks in Europe are pretty impressed with it, as well. According to Ford, the automaker's European arm has already logged 3,000 orders for the new hot hatch since it hit dealerships this March. The US-spec car, which will only be available as a five-door, will go on sale in the United States this summer.
What's perhaps most interesting about the Fiesta ST ordering is that the majority of customers appear to be ordering high-spec cars. According to Ford data, 60 percent of customers have opted for the leather interior with Recaro buckets, and 90 percent have selected the upgraded 17-inch wheels (seen on our test car, above). Spirit Blue has been the most popular color, commanding 27 percent of all orders. As for the technology upgrades, 19 percent of customers have ponied up for the Sony stereo with navigation.
To recap, the Fiesta ST is offered with Ford's 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, putting out 179 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. We had an absolute blast flinging the hot Fiesta through the French Alps, and we can't wait for this sharp little hatch to make its way over to the States.
