I have decided to sell my 1964 Galaxie 500...I bought this car from the original owners daughter back in 2009 and drove it on the trailer.  This car had been taken care of very well since it was purchased new in Lexington South Carolina on 7-3-64.  I have a copy of the original bill of sale as well as the window sticker.  This car is a very solid survivor that can be enjoyed as is or restored very easily.  The car was re-painted around 1989 due to some small damage to the passenger door.  The paint is showing its age and some of the trim was not taped up very well but I like it this way...you know exactly what you are getting.  There are a few spots of rust at the back window and where the top meets the body on the passenger side (see photos).  There is a small hole in the trunk under the spare tire.  But the amazing thing is that the floors, rockers, quarters, and the rest of the body is RUST FREE!  This car has the original carpet in it, it also has the original head liner and visors in it.  This car was garage or shed kept its entire life.  It has true dual exhaust with the huge mufflers in the rear qtrs....it is very quiet.  I have done some mechanical upgrades so I could get in a drive the car without worries and I will list all of them below but this car is as original as you ever want to get.  It is a true "Z" code 390, 300HP, 3 speed on the column, Raven Black, Red interior, 1964 Galaxie 500.  You will not find another car that is more complete and original with this combination anywhere.  I have had my fun... now it is time to pass it on to someone else to enjoy.

This car is by no means perfect.....it has a few bumps and bruises but it is extremely solid and is a great car to have.  I am reluctant to sell but I feel like now is the time to move on to something else.

Here are all of the mechanical things I have done to the car...trying to keep it as original as possible.

New plugs, wires, cap, rotor button with Petronics electronic ignition (got rid of the points)

New exhaust manifold gasket and donut on drivers side

Rebuilt Autolite 4100 factory 4 Barrel

Rebuilt Clutch / Brake petal assembly (all new bushings)

New Heater core with defrost hoses

New Master Cylinder

All new brakes in front (Shoes, springs, cylinders, rotors turned)

New rubber brake lines on front

I removed the original foam padding on the inside of the firewall and installed Dynamat sheets.

Rebuilt radiator (it actually came out of an automatic car and the trans cooler is plugged)

KYB Shocks on all 4 corners

New Motor mounts

I swapped the original 14" steel wheels for 15's...5.5" up front and 6" in the rear...the tires are 205/75's and 235 / 75's

63 Ford dog dish caps

Changed the trans and differential fluids

New Fuel pump

New seal in tail of trans

Speaker in dash has been rebuilt

New clutch and pressure plate (still in box....needs to be installed)

Front seat is a 64 Galaxie seat but it is not the original seat...I have the original seat but it needs to be recovered.

What the car needs....

It marks it's spot every where you park it...I am guessing the rear main seal...

Clutch and pressure plate assembly needs to be installed..

Front brakes need to be adjusted again....sometimes it pulls to the right...

I may have missed a few things but you get the idea,  I just drove this car on a 2 hour trip 3 days ago and it performed flawlessly.

Let me know if you would like to see some other pictures of have a specific question.  The reserve on this car is very fair so bid with confidence.

Thanks

An amazing Group B rally car collection heads to auction

Tue, Jan 26 2021

Kicking off in 1982, the Group B era spawned some of the most fearsome rally cars of all time. The technologically advanced pioneers of all-wheel drive and turbocharging defined a time when automakers had carte blanche to build machines with unrestricted power, without the burden of homologating a large number of road cars to qualify. The results were sometimes deadly, leading the FIA to ban the class after 1986. Now, a collection of seven Group B monsters is headed across the block in Paris as part of the Artcurial auction, held in partnership with France's famed Retromobile show. The show has been delayed to June, however. There's a 1985 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, one of 20 Evo II models that helped the company achieve two championships in Group B's short run. This particular example was driven by world champion Timo Salonen at the 1986 Swedish Rally, where it finished seventh due to an oil filter seal failure. Bruno Saby subsequently drove it at the 1986 Tour de Corse and Peugeot entered it at the 1986 Acropolis Rally as well. It's still registered to Peugeot Talbot Sport and represents a French technological achievement, according to Artcurial, comparable to the Concorde or TGV train. Representing Italy are a pair of Lancias in the iconic Martini livery. The Lancia 037 helped Bel Paese clinch its only Group B victory in 1983, after a hard-fought rivalry with Audi. It's one of the few Group B cars that weren't AWD, achieving its success the old-fashioned way, through lightness and superb handling. A second Lancia, a 1986 Delta S4, was the culmination of the Italian firm's later Group B efforts and one of Saby's favorites. While Group B was no more in 1987, the S4 was the predecessor to the Delta Integrale that would dominate WRC from 1987 through 1992. While the collection also includes greats like a Ford RS200, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, and MG Metro 6R4, the centerpiece is the Audi Quattro Sport S1. The ultimate Group B machine, it introduced all-wheel-drive and turbocharging to the sport. It also employed the wildest use of wings and air dams to generate downforce. Tunable up to 590 horsepower, it could rocket to 60 mph in about three seconds. The car offered for sale came straight from Ingolstadt, a 1988 model built for the Race of Champions of ex-Group B cars. The collection was amassed in the late 80s and early 90s, not long after Group B's dissolution.

Weekly Recap: Diesel scandal continues to fuel VW's woes

Sat, Oct 3 2015

Volkswagen's woes continued this week when it was delisted from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and stripped of awards. Senators are also lining up to advocate for criminal and civil action against the automaker, and its consumer reputation is in tatters. Put simply, it's been another rough period for VW. Despite this, the company eked out a sales gain of less than one percent in September, though that was well behind the overall market's performance. Sister brand Audi, which sells a diesel A3, was less affected, posting a 16-percent gain in September. Revelations that Volkswagen rigged millions of diesel-powered cars around the world didn't surface until September 18, so the full sales impact of the ongoing scandal won't likely be felt until October. Meanwhile, VW's image continues to take a beating, and an AutoPacific survey found only one in 14 vehicle owners have a positive opinion of the company. Before the scandal broke, three-quarters of respondents had a positive view of VW. The survey also found 64 percent don't trust Volkswagen, though the same number believe other companies are or may also be using cheating devices to pass emissions tests. "The reputation of diesels has been severely damaged, at least for the short term," Ed Kim, AutoPacific's vice president of industry analysis, said in a statement. Despite the lingering malaise, experts believe VW will recover, just as Toyota and General Motors eventually emerged from their own high-profile controversies. "Consumers have proven through numerous recalls that they are resilient and quickly return to their buying habits," Kim said. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Mazda to reveal sports car concept in Tokyo Mazda will bring a curvy sports car concept to the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The automaker is being especially coy with the details, only releasing the dark teaser shot that you see to the right and a cryptic statement that suggests the concept "condense[s] Mazda's entire history of sports-car development into a single model." Immediately, speculation abounded this is an RX-7 and RX-8 successor, though Mazda didn't specify what engine the concept will have. Reportedly, the company is still working on rotary engines. Mazda will have a Cosmo Sport 110S on its stand in Tokyo, which pioneered rotary technology in 1967. Read into that what you will. Britain orders 10,000 ventilators from F1/McLaren/Mercedes/Ford/Rolls-Royce/Airbus

Mon, Mar 30 2020

Paramedics and ambulance personnel get instructions from a command unit outside London's ExCel Centre arena, which is being turned into a 4,000 bed temporary hospital called NHS Nightingale to deal with coronavirus patients. The hospital is due to open Monday, March 30. / AP     LONDON — Britain has ordered 10,000 ventilators from a consortium of leading aerospace, engineering and Formula One racing companies which will start production this week in response to an urgent government call for industry to help save lives. The 27-strong team, including Airbus, BAE Systems, Ford and Rolls-Royce, have joined forces to ramp up production of a ventilator made by Smiths Group, which supports those with complications from COVID-19. The consortium, which also includes seven Formula One teams including McLaren and Mercedes, home to World Champion Lewis Hamilton, said they had pulled staff off existing projects to meet the national need. Some 1,228 people have died from coronavirus in the United Kingdom and a senior health official said on Saturday the country would be doing well if it manages to keep the death toll below 20,000. "This consortium brings together some of the most innovative companies in the world," Dick Elsy, the head of the consortium, said in a statement. "I am confident this consortium has the skills and tools to make a difference and save lives." The United Kingdom, which initially only had 5,000 ventilators available in its National Health Service, has been trying to secure additional supplies after realising it needed 30,000 to cope with the peak of the outbreak. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is now in isolation in Downing Street after testing positive for coronavirus, made an emergency appeal earlier this month for manufacturers to retool their production lines and start making specialist health equipment including ventilators. Britain now has about 8,000 ventilators, with another 8,000 on order from international manufacturers that are due in coming weeks. Last week it placed an order for a newly-designed model from the vacuum cleaner company Dyson that will need to be approved by the health regulator. Mercedes part of a separate effort, too Separately on Monday a second consortium including Mercedes Formula One and other F1 teams said it had developed in less than a week a new version of a breathing aid that can help coronavirus patients.
