1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL "R" Code Convertible

In 1963 Ford built fewer than 100 Galaxie 500XL R code Convertibles, making this car one of the rarest and most collectible of any R code Galaxie

This is one of the few 1963 Ford Galaxie 500XL 427 4 speed "R" code Convertibles remaining. The Galaxie 500XL models were the top of the line in 1963. The standard equipment on these cars was a deluxe offering with standard bucket seats and console, full wheel covers, wall to wall carpeting, courtesy lights and contoured deluxe seat upholstery.

In Mid '63, the fearsome "R" code 427 dual 4-bbl V-8 engines were available, the "R"-code 427 engine used an 11.5:1 compression ratio, solid lifters, two 652-cfm Holley 4160 4-bbl. carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold and dual exhausts to make 425hp at 6,000 rpm and 480-lbs.ft. of torque at 3,700 rpm.

All cars so equipped could not be optioned with A/C, power steering or power brakes.

The "R" code cars  were further factory-mandated to use a four-speed manual transmission, along with 15-inch wheels and heavy-duty suspension, brake and driveline components.

The optional equipment on the car includes: Ford Factory option (9) 4.11 rear axle, Ford Factory AM/FM radio, Rotunda steering column mounted tachometer, Auto gage center console mounted gauge set featuring oil pressure, volts and water temperature gauges, Rotunda door mirrors and Rotunda front and rear bumperetts.

This car has all the correct parts and are still on or with with the car today
. I have all the correct 15” Kelsey Hayes high performance wheels and all of the spinner wheel covers in mint condition, the build sheet and the convertible top boot, these will be given to who ever buys the car. I replaced the stock tires and wheels with the 17" Edelbrock 454 wheels  and BF Goodrich G Force tires shown in the pictures as I wanted to fill the wheel wells and the mags and larger tires look like they belonged on the car.

This car is in beautiful condition and has only 36K original miles! Everything works as it should and it turns heads wherever it's driven or shown. It is well behaved on the road and rides very nicely, but there is nothing else like the sound and feel of a car equipped with a solid lifter, dual 4 barrel,  427 cubic inch engine when you put the pedal to the metal!

Words alone cannot do justice to this fine car, so I'll let the specifications and pictures speak for themselves.

I have many more pictures available, or can take more of specific details you want to see, just ask.

This car is in Phoenix, Arizona and may be seen and inspected by buyers or their agents who arrange an appointment in advance.
The car is sold As Is, Where Is.

Ladies Love It: Ford Fiesta wins Womens World Car of the Year

Thu, 25 Jul 2013

It's official: A panel of female automotive writers has chosen the Ford Fiesta 1.0-liter EcoBoost as the Womens World Car of the Year, and it beat tough competition like the Mazda CX-5, Range Rover and Porsche Boxster S for the overall top spot.
The CX-5 and Range Rover won the SUV and Luxury Car categories, respectively, and the Boxster S laid claim to the Sports Car category, beating the runner up Audi RS5 and third place Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ (or Scion FR-S). The Audi Allroad was named the Family car of the year.
The panel consisted of 18 female automotive writers from around the world tasked with picking the best car in each of eight categories, including top vehicle overall, using criteria that women utilize when shopping for a car. That includes safety, value-for-money, aesthetic appearance, storage space, child-friendliness, ease-of-driving, color, sex appeal and environmental footprint.

Ford bringing adaptive steering to the masses [w/video]

Thu, 29 May 2014

Within the next year, Ford will offer a brand-new adaptive steering system (unimaginatively dubbed "Ford Adaptive Steering"), and this week, the automaker invited us out to its proving grounds in Dearborn, MI to get a taste for how its new setup works. In function, Ford's system doesn't greatly differ from the majority of other adaptive steering units already on the market from companies like Audi or BMW, but consider this: Ford will be the first non-luxury automaker to offer this technology, and uniquely, the whole system fits inside the car's steering wheel.
Ford's engineers have worked hard to create a system that can be tacked on to the company's full lineup of cars, trucks and utility vehicles, and says that the adaptive steering will be uniquely tuned for each specific vehicle. The automaker will not confirm exactly which vehicle will launch with this technology, but for the purpose of our preview, we tested the technology in a 2014 Fusion - a vehicle with already-good behind-the-wheel feel, one that the company says best demonstrates its current steering efforts.

Ford files trademark application for 'Model E'

Fri, 27 Dec 2013

In early December, Ford filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name "Model E." Historically, Ford never produced a Model E, and while automakers are known to file for trademarks they never use, some have wondered if the application might be used for a concept car.
Based on other recent events, though, it could be a legal move. In 2000 Ford sued an online start-up called Model E over the similarity of that name to Ford's industry-shaping Model T, but the judge dismissed the case citing lack of proper grounds. In August 2013, Tesla applied for trademark registration for Model E, and at the time, Ford said it would review the application. Tesla actually made two applications for Model E, one for automobiles and structural parts therefore, the other for "providing maintenance and repair services for automobiles," and there are plenty of theories about what the name could be applied to.
The Published for Opposition date for Tesla's applications is December 31, 2013, after which anyone who thinks they'd be harmed by Tesla being granted the trademark gets 30 days to register their issues. This is just speculation, but Ford's application - which was filed for automobiles only - might be about protecting what it sees as unwelcome encroachment on the name Model T, protection it wasn't able to enforce before when the stakes were only online and much smaller.
