For Sale is a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 2Dr convertible.  It has a clear Michigan title.  I don't know it's history, but understand it was a barn-find in Virginia.  It has a 352 V-8 engine that sometime in the past was bored-out to a 390 CID.  It is a manual transmission - 3 speed shifter in the steering column.  Manual steering and manual brakes.  It has a new convertible top, which operates by power.

In the last year, it has received new piston rings, push rods, all new gaskets and seals, new timing chain and sprockets, rebuilt transmission, new generator and voltage regulator, new starter, new fuel pump, new gas tank and sending unit, tune-up with points/condenser/cap/spark plugs, carburetor rebuild, new thermostat, shifting linkage rebuild, spring suspension supports, and brake master cylinder and wheel cylinders rebuild.  The car runs well, and drives like a dream.  Older dual exhaust on NOS exhaust manifolds sounds great.  A larger radiator was installed sometime in the past.  Holley 2 BBL carb.

It has an older body restoration, the paint shines nicely, but there are some imperfections, the trim is all attached, but not in perfect shape.  There is some rust-through on a lower rocker panel, and a little rust on the floor board.  The tires have great tread, but are several years old and do show some signs of cracking in the sidewalls.  Interior appears to be original.  Seats have no holes or tears, the door panels and side panels are a little worn, but everything is there and in OK shape.  All of the glass is in great shape, and the windows all operate freely.  Headlights, wipers, turn signals, speedometer and odometer work.  The odometer shows 61,000+ miles, but I have no way of knowing if that's accurate.

This car is fun to drive.  I've tried to list as much information as possible, please don't hesitate to ask questions.  This car has no warranty, and is being sold as is.  It is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to close the auction early if it does sell.  I have posted a few pictures.

Good Faith Deposit of $500 is required within 48 hours of close of the auction.  Final payment within 10 days.  Funds will be cash or PayPal only.  Transportation at the buyer's expense.

Ford recalling nearly 700k Escape CUVs, C-Max hybrids over two separate safety issues

Fri, 09 May 2014

Poor Escape. Ever since its launch in 2012, Ford's small CUV has been the subject of many, many, many recalls. And today, The Detroit News is reporting that Ford is adding two more recalls to the 2013-14 model year Escape's permanent record, one of them also involves the C-Max hybrid hatchback.
The first recall, covering 692,500 Escape and C-Max vehicles, is due to a software glitch that could cause the airbags - specifically, the safety canopy - to not deploy in a timely fashion during rollover crashes. According to the News, Ford says no crashes or injuries have been reported in relation to this problem.
The second recall, covering 692,700 Escapes, is related to the door handles. The News reports that the exterior door handles could open while the vehicle is in motion, and could also fail to latch properly. Once again, no crashes or injuries have occurred because of this. The National Highway Safety Traffic Administration has not issued an official notice on either recall as of this writing.

Ford F-150, Toyota Tacoma top ASG list of most eco-friendly trucks

Mon, Mar 31 2014

No one's going to confuse the massively popular Ford F-150 pickup truck with a green vehicle, but at least it performs well in an environmental sense when compared to its brethren. The Automotive Science Group (ASG) took on the odd (to us, at least) task of measuring which pickup trucks are friendliest to the environment and found that the big seller in the Blue Oval's flagship F-series came up big, while the Toyota Tacoma came up, well, slightly smaller. That's a good thing. Among the 245 light-duty trucks that ASG studied, the 3.7-liter V6-powered F-150 won ASG's award for full-size trucks for both regular and crew cabs. Meanwhile, the 2.7-liter Toyota Tacoma, with its fuel-economy rating of 23 miles per gallon combined, had smallest overall life-cycle carbon footprint and won ASG's two mid-sized categories. Finally, the Chevrolet Silverado won best all-around performance in the full-size extended-cab category. The ASG factored in eco-friendliness, price and social performance (which is measured by, "considering the rights of those charged with vehicle manufacture and assembly") to come up with its findings. Sales of Ford's F-Series trucks rose 8.4 percent last year to 74,592 units and accounted for more than a third of the total 2013 sales of Ford and its Lincoln unit. Check out the ASG's press release below. Truck Buyers Faced With "Eco" Options Galore Which 2014 full-size trucks warrant eco claims? 25 March 2014 [Santa Rosa, CA] – With a myriad of eco-branded trucks hitting the North American marketplace in 2014 – from Ford's EcoBoost and GM's EcoTec3 to Ram's latest addition, the EcoDiesel – the Automotive Science Group (ASG) was prompted to offer an objective, scientifically-based assessment to determine exactly which 2014 trucks actually earn their "eco" badge. According to ASG and the principles of ecological economics, a vehicle's eco-rating must be multi-faceted to include both environmental and economic considerations, and so the Group's proprietary rating platform – the Automotive Performance Index – does just that. Using a unique combination of vehicle data inputs that include conventional specifications as well as social, environmental and economic performance indicators, ASG's vehicle assessments empower consumers to make choices based on one's personal principles and financial requisites.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
