1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible on 2040-cars
Laguna Beach, California, United States
Just as the Space Race was starting in the 1960’s, so was Ford’s production of the Galaxie, which is where the model received its name. This California classic has been with a family for years with original paint and an 8 y/o restoration. The owner has gone completely through the car from top to bottom, inside and out. As far as we know, all engine and transmission numbers match. Everything under the hood is brand new. They rebuilt the original engine (under 1 yr. warranty), put brand new, corrected exhaust on the car, new radiator, new master cylinder, carburetor, water pump, window cranks have been replaced, the interior is restored correctly with the original paint still sitting on the dash. The car has been maintained by one of the finest classic car garages in the country at Hemingway Motors in Santa Ana, California, with the owner Walt looking over every single detail of the car. The convertible top is brand new and goes up and down with ease. They installed seat belts in the car, which was an option at the time, on both front and rear seats. The ’62 Galaxie has new breaks, new front shocks, new power steering pump. The car carries the big 390 police interceptor motor with police interceptor valve covers. This is one of the finest examples of a ’62 Ford Galaxie Sunlier Convertible XL 500 that we’ve ever seen offered for sale from one of the most respectable classic car dealerships in southern California, located in beautiful Laguna Beach. Everything is correct on this car. |

Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?
Mon, 17 Dec 2012In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.
Former Ford CEO Mulally won't run for president
Mon, 15 Sep 2014Alan Mulally will not be following his successful term as president and CEO of Ford Motor Company with a run at an even bigger presidency. Rumors that the 68-year-old former Boeing exec would make a run at the White House sprouted after his apparent dodging of a reporter's questions about a potential candidacy during a forum in Indianapolis.
"I really think it's important that we all pull together. We really need to pull together around a compelling vision for our country and a comprehensive strategy to do it and work together. We really need to do it," Mulally said at the conference, according to The Detroit News.
He's since clarified by saying, "[I'm] honored at the suggestion, but that is not a role I am considering."
Ford Edge Concept previews new look, can park itself remotely
Wed, 20 Nov 2013It turns out the image we saw back in February did, in fact, reveal the next-generation Ford Edge - at least in concept form. We still have to wait to see what the design will look like in production guise, but until then, Ford is giving us a good idea thanks to the Edge Concept being introduced at the LA Auto Show.
The new styling is an evolution of the current crossover's face with narrow headlights and a prominently slatted grille, while the rest of the design adds a more dynamic appearance with interesting body creases and horizontal taillights. We haven't gotten a look inside the Edge Concept just yet, but Ford is promising a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies including a new self-park system that allows activation from inside or outside the vehicle along with obstacle avoidance and an adaptive electric power steering system.
Ford will continue to offer an EcoBoost engine option in the upcoming Edge, and it will get active grille shutters to help maximize fuel efficiency. No word yet on when we'll be seeing the next-gen Edge in production form, but as we reported recently, it will become a global model in markets including Europe, China and South America. Ford's press release is posted below, but we'll have more information and images up later today.
