This car was born in california, raised in Vegas and brought to Michigan for restoration.  Being a solid Western car, we chose to go over board and make it better than new..  In doing so, we had some minor modifications made to the body and interior.  These modifications were designed to make it a show car, with best of show  ability.   This has paid off well, with best of show  wins  and many trophy's, including  Good Guys.  The minor modifications are as follows.

The brite work was  replated with cu., ni, ch., and the aluminum was re anodised.  All the stainless trim was removed and restored and polished as new.

The body was striped and blocked to remove factory imperfections.

The paint is base clear, Guards Red, that was color sanded and polished to a mirror finish.

The car was lowered 3'' and fitted with rear air shocks to be used when required.  This did not effect the smooth ride.

The wheels were changed from 14" to 15" chrome smoothies and dressed with radial white wall tires.  That improved the ride and handeling.

The hood and doors were shaved, with keyless enrty for the drivers door, controled by the key fob.

The lake pipes are decrotive and are not connected.

The interior was done in briliant pearl white, which refects the heat so well, that it is comfortable in the hot sun.

The convertible top is white and has recently recieved a new  top motor and lines, to make it perform like new.

The engine came with the car, I don't think it's original, but is period correct and was rebuilt about 4000 miles ago.The engine was fitted with petronics and a new 4V.

The transmission is a standard shift three speed , with over drive, which makes it comfortable as a interstate cruiser.

The dual exhaust has glass pacs along the exhaust extensions, I which I call echo cans and are 3 1/2"  X 18" and produce a low pleasant tone.

We have had a lot of fun with this car and it's the best in the collection, but age has crept up on us, so it's time for it to find a new home.  Having sold are other cars, we have found that the new owners have become friends and hope this is the same with the Sunliner.  We will continue to attend shows, but it will be with our 49 Merc, which is where it all started.

Thanks for looking

PS: The car has been driven to local shows, but yes, it's a trailer queen for the out of town shows.

F-150 just the start of Ford's aluminum plans

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Not only have we been told that the 2015 Ford F-150 is tougher, more durable and up to 700 pounds lighter than the current truck, Ford COO Mark Fields said it's also "CAFE-positive." That means, for the first time in the history of corporate average fuel economy standards, the F-150 would be a positive contributor on Ford's CAFE balance sheet instead of being a vehicle it needs to counterbalance with frugal offerings.
Fields' comments made at the Detroit Auto Show were among quotes from other Ford execs that confirmed the carmaker will be using aluminum for more of its vehicles. CEO Alan Mulally said it would "proliferate across our lineup," with speculation being that we'll see it applied to crossover and sport utility models first, since they'll benefit the most. Even gaining the massive scale of using aluminum on the world's best selling vehicle for its first effort - on average, the company sells two times as many F-150s in a single day as Land Rover sells of its aluminum Range Rover in a month - Ford will be looking to further spread the cost of its five-year development investment in aluminum technology. And that should mean better handling and fuel economy for those of us who don't need to wear hardhats at the office.

Are you a new Ford Mustang SVO? [w/video]

Fri, 16 May 2014

When Ford announced that its 2015 Mustang would arrive with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, three letters came to mind: SVO. While Ford hasn't said a word regarding the rebirth of a Mustang SVO model, this latest set of spy shots shows us something very, very interesting. Allow us to explain.
The Mustang prototype in these photos looks very similar to the GT500 test cars we've spotted before - same bulging hood, aggressive front fascia and air vents aft of the front wheels. What's different, however, is around back. Have a look at the exhaust, and note that instead of the GT500's usual quad pipes, two of the exhaust outlets have been capped off.
Our spies point out that these exhaust outlets could be closed for some sort of emissions testing or another engineering reason, but it's also important to note that the engine and exhaust notes of this car sound completely different from earlier GT500 prototypes. We've got a video below that compares the two.

How Ford's light lab keeps the sun shining on the new Mustang just right [w/video]

Thu, 02 Jan 2014

Anyone who's bought one of those old school metal shift knobs knows they're really cool until they sit in a parking lot in the sun for a few hours. Then they're not cool at all. Likewise, features such as the aluminum dash on the 2015 Ford Mustang can be all kinds of neat right up until the sun hits it just the right way and sends shards of blinding light through the cabin. The Ford Visual Performance and Evaluation Lab is where engineers figure out how to make sure that doesn't happen.
Cars like said Mustang are parked inside the 30-foot reflecting dome under 6,000 watts of lights that can mimic the sun at any time of day and in any weather condition. Engineers can then spend cold, overcast days inside, testing for interior legibility, glare and reflections on every interior and exterior surface as if it were bright and sunny. They can also learn how a car's sheetmetal and colors will look out of doors, all year round.
Ford showed off the lighting lab without the music and interviews three years ago when the Explorer was being prepared. You can watch it at work again in the video below, and read about it in the press release below that.
