MotorWeek remembers pre-EcoBoost Ford with the Thunderbird TurboCoupe
Thu, Feb 26 2015Sometimes it feels great to embrace nostalgia for a trip down memory lane, and MotorWeek indulges that occasional desire with its regular Retro Review series. This time, the long-lived show goes back to the '80s to check out two of the top performance vehicles in the Ford lineup at the time – the 1987 Thunderbird TurboCoupe and Mustang GT. Both models had just received thorough refreshes after several years on the market. Long before an EcoBoost badge ever met its models, Ford made early forays into experimenting with turbocharging on vehicles like the T-Bird TurboCoupe. Based on MotorWeek's assessment, the company was on the right track. The boosted 2.3-liter four-cylinder was apparently a bit coarse but offered 190 horsepower with little turbo lag, compared to 155 hp the year before. The Mustang GT is likely the more-fondly remembered of these performance Fords today and provides an interesting point of comparison against the TurboCoupe. MotorWeek found some faults with the 'Stang, though. While it was quick for the time with a sprint to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, the 'car was described as "a nose-heavy beast" for its handling. Ford unveils all-new 2016 F-650 and F-750 at NTEA
Tue, 04 Mar 2014Medium-duty work trucks might not be the most exciting vehicles, but they perform necessary jobs everyday. Ford is in the process of a complete refresh of its entire commercial vehicle lineup over the next 18 months, and it is debuting the all-new versions of its F-650 and F-750 trucks at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, IN.
"The all-new F-650/F-750 allow us to leverage our strengths and sales leadership in Classes 1 to 5 to create a better F-650/F-750 that's designed, engineered and built by Ford in the USA," said Ford spokesperson Mike Levine to Autoblog via email.
Huge amounts of torque is vital for trucks like these, and both models are offered with some of Fords biggest engines. Buyers can opt for either the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel with TorqShift 6-speed automatic with available power takeoff or a gasoline-fueled 6.8-liter V10 with a 6-speed automatic. The V10 can also be ordered from the factory to be fueled by compressed natural gas or liquid propane gas.

The news keeps pouring in from the Consumer Electronics Show now underway in Las Vegas, and the latest comes from Ford which has announced two new apps for its Sync AppLink system.
First up is a cooperative app launched by Ford together with Domino's Pizza that lets drivers of the former order pizza from the latter right from their car. The service allows those with Ford Sync AppLink in their car or truck and are registered with a Domino's Pizza Profile to place an order for their favorite pie using Dearborn's voice-recognition software for either pickup or delivery. Save your information in your Pizza Profile and it'll be sent to your house without even the push of a button, which strikes us as awesome a use of technology as we've ever seen.
