Vehicle Auctions (First time bidders see note at bottom)

This is a 2006 Ford Focus seized by the Sheriff as a result of a forfeiture.  The answers to questions requesting additional information will be posted on the item description as the auction progresses.

Here is what I know:  The vehicle is a 4 cylinder with 77,503 miles on the odometer.  The engine seems to run well.  Sounds good.  The tires are in ok/good condition.

Flaws.   The vehicle needs to be jump started.  Since it’s been sitting awhile, the battery may need to be replaced.    Overall the vehicle seems to be in excellent condition.  Should be visible in a photo.

Keep in mind we have no history of the vehicle other than it was being driven when it was seized.  Since then it has sat in storage.  Good luck.

FORFEITED VEHICLES/SHERIFF’S SALES

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office currently disposes of forfeited vehicles through public auction on eBay.  The vehicles are listed with no reserve price, meaning the highest bidder wins the auction.  Auctions typically start at $100.00.  Vehicles are forfeited for a wide variety of reasons, from drunk driving to drug sales or fleeing a police officer. The vehicles also display a wide range of maintenance and repair (or disrepair, as the case may be).  The Sheriff’s Office does not have a mechanic, nor do we claim to know anything about vehicle maintenance.  For that reason, you are strongly encouraged to view the vehicle in person or arrange for someone to look at the vehicle for you prior to sale.  While the department will make every effort to note each defect or characteristic to help you make an informed purchase decision we simply don’t know cars to the level of detail that has been requested in some of the auctions held since the department started using eBay in 2002.  Bottom line, if the vehicle was being driven at the time it was seized we’ll tell you. From the time it comes into our possession, it gets towed or moved by flatbed. We don’t drive the vehicles. As such, we can’t attest to their operability.

As each vehicle listed for auction on eBay was forfeited, it is unregistered and unlicensed.  Both details must be taken care of before the vehicle can be driven off the lot.  Out-of-state buyers can purchase 31-day permits for $11.00 at the local license bureau, which would allow the vehicle to be driven.  Minnesota residents must handle license and registration transfer prior to the vehicle being driven.  The local license bureau office (5 minutes away) is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  As for the title, when we seize a vehicle a rather lengthy paper chase begins.  The end result of that paper chase is that the Sheriff’s Office becomes the legal owner of the vehicle and our name is on the title.  We do not begin an auction until we have that title in our possession. At the end of the auction, the title is transferred from us to you.  You will leave our office with the vehicle, keys and the title in hand.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Unless otherwise stated, the condition of this vehicle is unknown.

2. This item is being offered "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" with no warranty or other guarantee as to its condition or fitness for use. As mentioned above, we don’t drive the vehicles and can’t attest to their operability.

3. We do not ship vehicles and all transactions must be in person.

4. Purchaser is responsible for transportation to and from the Sherburne County Government Center in Elk River, MN.

5. Unless otherwise specified, vehicle will be available for public inspection/pick-up at 13880 Business Center Drive, Elk River, MN 55330 weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central Standard Time.

6. Full Payment is due within 7 calendar days from the end of auction.

7. None of our vehicles come with license plates. Purchaser should check with local license bureau for licensing requirements.

8. Vehicle listed is offered on a competitive bid basis and must be removed within 20 calendar days from the end of auction.

Because of malicious buyers I cancel all bids of buyers with a (0) rating.  If you have a (0) rating you must contact me to bid.

Ford to kick off F-150 campaign during College Football Playoff

Tue, Dec 30 2014

The long-awaited inaugural College Football Playoff will feature the nation's best college teams, with the Oregon Ducks taking on the Florida State Seminoles, and Alabama Crimson Tide facing some team from Ohio. On top of that, though, it'll also see the launch of the very first advertising campaign for the 2015 Ford F-150. Viewers from across the country will see a trio of ads featuring the all-aluminum truck, with two half-minute spots and a full 60-second commercial, all voiced by Denis Leary, touting the F-150's feature set and towing capacity, but passing on mentioning the new truck's class-leading fuel economy. That, Automotive News reports, isn't a miscue by Ford. The company simply didn't have enough time between the EPA's fuel economy announcement and the 2014-2015 Bowl Season to prepare a spot. Expect plenty on the F-150's fuel efficiency in future spots. Interestingly, though, AN is reporting future F-150 advertising won't include a Super Bowl appearance. Ford has made the decision to focus its new truck ads on college football rather than during the NFL championship. "From our point of view, there's no bigger stage to debut the F-150 creative than the College Football Playoff," Keith Koeppen, Ford's US marketing communications boss, told AN. "It's so closely aligned with the passions of our customer." It's those passions that are pushing Ford to kick off its ad campaign for a new truck so much earlier. Speaking to AN, Doug Scott, Ford's truck marketing manager, said that the automaker typically doesn't begin ad campaigns until its dealers have at least a fifty-fifty mix of old and new models, but that it's pushing the 2015 F-150's ads to fit with the college football playoffs. While Ford's focus is on the two semifinal playoff games on New Year's Day and the National Championship Game on January 12, the ads will actually air for the first time on New Year's Eve, when the TCU Horned Frogs face off against the Ole Miss Rebels in the Peach Bowl. The three spots will also be shown during other bowl games, as well. 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost

Fri, 09 May 2014

I'll be honest; when Ford first unveiled its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, I was skeptical. Past attempts at building turbocharged American cars were almost universally awful, I reasoned, so why would Ford's latest effort be any different? This may seem foolish today, considering the success that the growing EcoBoost range has achieved - particularly the 2.0-liter and 1.6-liter mills. Yet I once again found myself questioning Ford.
It's the makeup of the 1.0-liter, turbocharged three-cylinder slotted into the compact engine bay of this Fiesta that has a way of breeding doubt. Three-cylinder engines remain an extreme rarity in the US. What's more, they earned a less-than-desirable reputation for applications in the 1980s and 1990s, and my trepidation about this latest three-pot as a result.
As I found out, though, history is a poor informant of modern technology. The thrust available in other cars with the EcoBoost badge on the back has not gone missing here; something the International Engine of the Year committee has lauded. That august body named the 1.0-liter Ecoboost the best engine of 2012 and 2013. After a week of driving, it didn't take long for my fear of threes to get turned into something like that line of thinking.

Weekly Recap: Hackers demonstrate auto industry's vulnerability

Sat, Jul 25 2015

There's always been a certain risk associated with driving, and this week cyber security came into focus as the latest danger zone when researchers demonstrated how easily they could hack into a 2014 Jeep Cherokee from across the country. The incident raised concerns over the vulnerability of today's cars, many of which double as smartphones and hot spots. During the now-infamous experiment, Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller infiltrated the Jeep's cellular connection and were able to control the infotainment system, brakes, and other functions. The hackers told the Jeep's maker, FCA US, of their findings last year, the company devised a software fix. Though Valesek and Miller hacked a Cherokee (like the one shown above), several FCA products, including recent versions of the Ram, Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, and Viper were also affected, illustrating potentially wide exposure that could reverberate across the sector. "For the auto industry, this is a very important event and shows that cyber-security protection is needed even sooner than previously planned," Egil Juliussen, senior analyst and research director for IHS Automotive, wrote in a research note. "Five years ago, the auto industry did not consider cyber security as a near-term problem. This view has changed." Hours after the Cherokee hacking incident was publicized on Tuesday, Sens. Ed Markey (D-Mass) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn) introduced legislation to direct the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Trade Commission to establish national standards for automotive cyber security. The bill also would require vehicles to have a cyber-rating system to alert consumers how well their cars' privacy and security are defended. "Drivers shouldn't have to choose between being connected and being protected," Markey said in a statement. "We need clear rules of the road that protect cars from hackers and American families from data trackers." Though FCA and its Jeep Cherokee were in the spotlight this time, they were just the latest to showcase how automotive technology has advanced faster than safety and regulatory measures. IHS forecasts 82.5 million cars will be connected to the internet by 2022, which is more than three times today's level. "Cyber-security will become a major challenge for the auto industry and solutions are long overdue," Juliussen said.
