2000 Ford Focus Zx3 on 2040-cars
Peoria, Illinois, United States
Thank you for viewing my auction. I am selling my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. Car is black in color with gray interior. It has a little over 216,392 miles on it and recently had spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a new coil replaced. Car has been running great as I used it to travel to and from work about 26 miles total a day. I am selling it as we are saving for a bigger vehicle as we have two children. Their is noticeable rust on the top of the car as the paint has peeled off and a some damage to a fender from the previous owner. Both can be easily replaced. The front bumper cover has a temp fix on it as it was cracked. The passenger door handle probably needs looked at or replaced as well as the hatch latch in the back. This car would be a decent to and from work car as I have used it for since 2009. The stereo works great, drives decent (could use an alignment). The front passenger side sway bar link needs replaced (I have the new part to give). I have had regular oil changes done, replaced transmission fluid and filter, new air filter and cabin filter, brakes are very good. Their is a few cigarette burn in the interior from a previous owner (I do not smoke), the car has no odor. The exterior license plate light trim broke off but a replacement can be found. The original key cylinder was replaced as it had a known defect and locked up on me. Car will come with 3 keys, and 2 key fobs. Car also gets great gas mileage of about 25mpg and even up to 28mpg. With a new paint job and a little more TLC you'll have a decent car for safe, reliable, travel. The AC also work fine for a month or two after being recharged. The ac compressor needs replaced as it squeals when the ac is turned on. The ties are all relatively new except the front drivers side is showing some toe wear. I have also replaced many other parts on this car including a new radiator, new rear swaybar linkage and bushings, new front struts. I have the majority of all receipts and service records if requested. Car has a fully functional spare tire, jack, and trunk lining. I have repaired 3 small chips in the windshield by safelite auto glass repair ( you won't even know its there till I point it out). I'm also going to include a Garmin Streetpilot C330 GPS unit that I installed. Other than that, shoot me an email with any other questions. Please only serious bidders. Winning bid will accept purchase AS IS based on the the description and pictures provided. I have done the best to describe vehicle as accurate as possible. Winning bidder is responsible for pick up. Title WILL be released upon verification that the car is insured by new owner and temporary plates have been issued. I will be more than willing to provide a bill of sale upon request. Deposit or full amount is due within 48 hours with remainder due at time of pickup.

The fascinating forgotten civil defense history of Mister Softee trucks
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Hemmings came across an interesting article from the Throwin' Wrenches blog about the intersection of ice cream, cars and civic duty in America's late 1950s. In particular, it focuses on the Mister Softee trucks, which criss-crossed neighborhoods of the eastern US serving ice cream. Looking past the ultra-durable vehicles used - heavy-duty Ford-based chassis, for what it's worth - the article delves into some deeper national-security territory.
See, Mister Softee truck owners were voluntary members of the Civil Defense, thanks to all the useful stuff (potable water, generators, freezers and fridges) that the machines carried with them for serving ice cream. Click over to Throwin' Wrenches for the full run down of how Mister Softee would have stepped in to help fight if the Cold War ever turned a little hotter.
Ford's Mulally now said to be in lead for Microsoft CEO job
Sun, 29 Sep 2013There have been rumors that Ford CEO Alan Mulally could assume the top job over at Microsoft, whose CEO, Steve Ballmer, will retire within the year. Mulally hasn't come out and said that he's considering moving to Microsoft after (or before) his contract with Ford through 2014 ends, but sources in the know say he's the front-runner to become the tech giant's CEO and has opened up to the idea more in recent weeks, AllThingsD reports.
Mulally is no stranger to Washington, where Microsoft is located, having worked in the state for Seattle-based Boeing Commercial Airplanes as CEO years ago. He also recently was an adviser to Ballmer in an effort to realign the company's management structure to help it become more competitive in a fast-changing computer hardware and software market. And when Ford developed its Sync digital interface, it tapped Microsoft to provide the operating system, Microsoft Auto. Perhaps the least crucial connection - but nonetheless an important one - is that Mulally still owns a house in the Seattle area, and it's been said he wants to return there, according to AllThingsD.
A main challenge Microsoft's next CEO will face is how to manage the company's numerous, fractured operations and, eventually, streamline them. But even on this front, Mulally has experience; after all, it was he who ushered in an era of global Ford vehicles, after the automaker had become complacent developing and selling vehicles by region leading up to the economic recession of 2008-2009.
Ford hit by lawsuit over hybrid technology from, surprise, Paice
Fri, Feb 28 2014The name Paice will be familiar to anyone who's been deep in the weeds of hybrid history, but it will probably be new to anyone who simply drives one. The key part of the story is something called "HyperDrive," which is the name given to a gas-electric powertrain technology developed by Alex Severinsky and patented in 1994. HyperDrive is a way to get the energy from both the electric battery and the engine into the wheels, seamlessly. The patents are held by Paice, which is an unusual company (its HQ is a house in a retirement community, right by a golf course) that does nothing but litigate. You can read more on Paice here. The latest case targets Ford and the hybrid and plug-in versions of the C-Max and Fusion models as well as the Lincoln MKZ. Paice claims that it held "over 100 meetings and interactions with Ford" between 1999 and 2004, and gave the automaker, "detailed information about the hybrid technology that Paice had developed." The suit also alleges that: For more than five years, Paice answered inquiries from multiple departments within Ford, believing in good faith that a business relationship between Paice and Ford would be mutually beneficial and advance the acceptance of Paice's technology. ... After years of Ford learning the details of Paice's hybrid drivetrain technology, Ford elected not to enter into a business relationship with Paice. The suit is officially known as, "Paice LLC v. The Ford Motor Co., 14-492, U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (Baltimore)" and you can read the PDF here. Ford told AutoblogGreen, "we do not comment on pending litigation." Toyota settled a similar patent-infringement case in 2010 and now pays Paice almost $100 for every hybrid it sells. Paice is still in court against Hyundai and Kia. In 2010, Ford also settled with Paice but they agreed to keep negotiating on other issues until at least January 1, 2014. With that date now in the past, it didn't take long for Paice to file papers to get the two sides back before a judge. That's where it appears to be most comfortable.
