Selling my 1962 Falcon project to make room in the garage. I have owned this car about 10 years and in that time I have made a ton of upgrades. I started with a super clean 80K survivor southern car with its original interior. The body was grease under coated back in the 60's which preserved the floor pans and under structure. I started on the body work but only got as far as removing some aftermarket side moldings and removing some old body filler. The spots I removed filler from have primer on them as seen in the photos. There is an old repaired dent in the passenger door that was probably done in the 60's, and some bubbling on the drivers rear wheel arch (both shown in the pics) along with various other small dents. Other than that the car has only been painted twice in 51 years and remains as I purchased it 10 years ago.

When I bought the car, it had a tired 6 cyl with a two speed Fordomatic. I removed the old drivetrain and installed a 5.0 roller long block with a Holley carb, Ford AOD trans, and a rear axle from a 75 Maverick Grabber. The engine internally is stock but has polished aluminum valve covers, air cleaner, intake, chrome oil pan, and front accessories from a 65 Mustang. The alternator is a PA performance 130 amp 2 wire conversion which eliminates the stock voltage regulator. I also added a Mallory HEI distributor and a Performance Parts balancer. The radiator is 2 row aluminum with an internal trans cooler and stainless shroud. The exhaust is stock 1965 Mustang duals with stock 1962 Falcon sedan delivery V8 manifolds.

The transmission is a stock AOD from an 88 Mustang LX. I installed a TCI constant pressure valve body to prevent problems from improper TV cable adjustments. Otherwise it is stock internally. It has a Lokar Hi-Tech TV cable installed and a custom Lokar shift linkage that retains the stock column shifter.

The rear axle is 8" stock unit from a 75 Maverick Grabber V8. It did not have a tag on it when I got it but I am guessing it has somewhere around 3.00 gears non posi. I cleaned the whole housing and painted it but did not change anything internally. I had planned on putting in a 3.55 posi unit into it in the future.

The brakes are completely rebuilt and upgraded to 1976 Grenada front discs with slotted rotors and rebuilt 75 Maverick V8 rear brakes. I replaced all the brake lines and hoses and added an adjustable rear proportioning valve. I also added a dual bowl master cylinder for safety.

The gas tank is brand new and I also converted the fuel pump to a Holley red electric pump. It runs through an oil pressure shutoff switch for safety.

The car has 17x7 chrome Foose Legend wheels with brand new Kuhmo Ecsta tires. These wheels and tires alone cost over $1500 and go with the car.

The car has all of its original outside chrome and stainless and it is in driver condition. I also added a nice set of Futura stainless upper door trim that gives the car a hardtop look. All of the glass is original and will need polished but has no cracks or bad chips. Should clean up nice.

The interior is 90% original and in really nice shape for being 51 years old. There are a few tears in the vinyl, the worst of which are shown in the pictures. The door panels are fair but could be replaced. The carpet was replaced with newer plush style and is in good shape. The headliner is also newer and in good condition. It would not take much to get it looking great.

The dash and gauges are all original and functional. The generator warning light could not be hooked up to the 2 wire alternator but you could easily add an amp gauge if you wanted. The heater is functional and blows hot air for cold weather cruises. The odometer shows just over 88k original miles on the car. The steering wheel has a few cracks but is perfectly serviceable for a driver.

All of the outside lights and turn signals are functional including the hi beams. The original tail lights have blue dots installed.

The car also comes with an original radio and antenna in good condition, original bumper jack, a nice set of Futura wrap around dash trim and glove box door, and an extra set of fender emblems in good condition (see picture).

The car starts right up, runs, drives, and stops. I have not really driven it any farther than up and down the street though and it will still need some adjustments to be road ready, mostly an alignment. I was planning on taking it back apart to paint so I never bothered to get it dialed in. It would not take much to get it on the road though.

If you're looking for an easy project that you can drive while you fix up this is perfect for you. I have more than double my starting price invested in it already but I need to move it to make room. The car has a clear title in my name and is ready to go. No reserve so highest bidder takes her home. Good Luck!

Report: GM struggling to market turbo technology

Tue, 20 Apr 2010

In the automotive realm, marketing can sometimes prove just as important as the actual product. Take, for instance, Ford's well regarded EcoBoost technology, which couples turbocharging with direct injection to produce more horsepower and reduce fuel consumption. Would it surprise you to hear that General Motors has had similar technology on the market for over three years?
It's true. GM's first turbocharged, direct injected powerplants hit the market for the 2007 model. The 2.0-liter Ecotec mills put down an impressive 260 horsepower and a matching 260 pound-feet of torque, and they were lauded by the press in the engine bays of the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Chevrolet Cobalt SS and Chevrolet HHR SS. But few people outside a core group of enthusiasts actually remember this fact.
Says Uwe Grebe, executive director of GM's global advanced engineering, "We didn't have a badge and say, 'This is the most important thing we will put on all our brochures.'" Ford, however, did just that, and it's EcoBoost engines are right at the tips of all our tongues when we discuss today's most advanced powerplants. So, how does The General fix its mistake?

RTR Spec 5 Concept shows off 2015 Ford Mustang's drifty potential

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

Meet the Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 Concept, a fully functional drift car that, according to our team in Sin City, has been doling out demo drifts in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Destined to be the flagship of RTR's Tactical Performance Line, the Spec 5 Concept is, in addition to its 5.0-liter Aluminator V8 engine, chock full of performance parts that you can buy for your very own 2015 Mustang. In addition to the Ford Racing engine, the OEM parts supplier has lent the Spec 5 an aluminum radiator and a close-ratio six-speed transmission.
ASD Motorsports provided the front lower control arms, while the car itself rides on a fully customized coilover suspension. Magnaflow and American Racing have provided the exhaust system and headers, respectively. 20-inch HRE wheels, designed for RTR, are wrapped in sticky Nitto rubber.
