I am selling this car for my father. He is 89 years young and has dementia. He built this car about 7 years ago to drive and enjoy. I helped with a lot of the work so I know the car well and I will be totally honest. The good : this was originally a 6 cylinder car and he put everthing from a 65 comet in it to convert it to a V8 car. It even has the Comet steering column and steering wheel in it. It has a 289 with a c4. The motr runs pretty good but it is a little cold blooded. once it warms up for a few minutes it does better. The car has only been driven about 30 miles over the last three years. The car gets a lot of looks and has overall good appeal. The interior has JC Whittney seat covers and door panels. There is a new black dearborn dash pad that was put on right before he stoped driving. The quarter panels were repaired welding in new patch panels. The windshield wipers and the am radio do work in this car. As does the dome light. The four tires on the ground were replasced about 2 years ago and still have the stubbys sticking out the top.
The bad : When the car was done, there floor pans were rusty and the rust was cut out. Instead of welding in new floor pans, he opted to screw down patch panels. He tared it in so it don't leak and the floors are solid. The drivers side rear frame rail had some rust and he cut it out and installed a new piece. He could afford to have the bumpers chrome plated so he opted to paint the existing ones. The bolts were welded to the bumper and shaved off for a cleaner look. The bumpers will unbolt so chrome ones can be put back on at a later date. The glass is all good but there is overspray residue on the front windshield. Not real bad but on a summer morning or evening it may come into play. The power styeering pump leaks. A new one can be bought for about $250. The rear end did come from another falcon that had a automatic transmission. It works fine. The front fenders do have some bondo in them on the leading edge from rust above the headlights but it is not easy to see. Again, i am trying to be totally honest here. The engine compartment is not detailed out but is presentable. The driver side valve cover started leaking resently and i haven't tried to tighten it down yet. It will need a new gasket I'm sure. The brake pads are good, but I noticed the master cylinder and wheel cylinders were rebuilt, not replaced. I would recommend whoever buys this car to upgrade to a dual master cylinder in place of the single.

Recharge Wrap-up: Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive is a rock star, FedEx tests electric trucks
Thu, Oct 2 2014The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive is in a new music video for I Lived by OneRepublic. The band's singer, Ryan Tedder, has also been brought on as a brand ambassador for the German automaker. OneRepublic will also be performing the song at the Mercedes-Benz Media Night on the eve of the Paris Motor Show. No word if Mercedes plans to offer hordes of screaming teenage fans as an option package with the B-Class Electric Drive. See the video (the car shows up around the four-minute mark) or read more in the press release below. FedEx is testing converted electric delivery trucks with diesel range extenders. Looking to shrink its carbon footprint, the company has converted a handful of trucks as part of a pilot program. In addition to battery packs, each truck is equipped with diesel turbine generators (supplied by Ian Wright's company, Wrightspeed) to provide electricity when the battery is depleted. Because the diesel motors aren't powering the vehicle directly, they can continuously run at their most efficient speed, making the trucks about twice as efficient as those powered by traditional means. Read more at Wired. Ford's new aluminum-bodied F-150 will be 5 to 20 percent more efficient, the company says. The fuel economy gains depend on the particular version of the truck, but the biggest improvement will likely come from the 3.5-liter V6 and the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6. Automotive News predicts the F-150 SFE to be rated at 21 mpg city/28 highway/23 combined, which are identical figures to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. The result could be a noteworthy fuel economy battle between Ford and Ram trucks. Learn more at Automotive News. The US Department of Energy is providing $25 million in funding toward reducing the price of algal biofuels. The goal is to get the price of these renewable fuels below $5 per gasoline gallon equivalent (gge) by 2019, and less than $3 per gge by 2030. The money will fund projects to develop better algal cultures that produce biofuel and other useful bioproducts, and projects to boost biomass productivity. The DOE says it wants to help develop a "bioeconomy" that provides jobs, helps the environment and ensures energy security. Read more at Energy.gov. This content is hosted by a third party. 2015 Ford Mustang potentially 'leaked' by Car and Driver
Mon, 28 Oct 2013Few upcoming debuts have been as eagerly anticipated as the all-new Ford Mustang that's expected to debut shortly as the Mustang's 50th anniversary year approaches. Well, Car and Driver magazine would have us wait no longer as it claims to be leaking Ford's new global pony car early.
Of course what you're looking at is just as likely to be a composite rendering based on what C/D projects the new Mustang to look like, but to our eyes it looks spot on. Combining design traits from the Evos Concept with classic Mustang signatures and Ford's Aston-inspired grille treatment, C/D's images - including a complete 360-degree digital navigator - show a Mustang not only for the modern era, but also for global distribution, taking a quintessentially American car to markets its predecessors were never designed for.
Those global considerations are expected to spell the demise of the outgoing Mustang's holdout live rear axle in favor of an independent suspension, and a slight constricting of the exterior dimensions. And thanks to a separate leak, coming from a digital survey, we have apparent confirmation of what will power the new pony car. While the existing 3.7-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engines will apparently carry over with only slight adjustments in output, the survey confirms a new 2.4-liter turbo four will be positioned in between them, offering slightly more power than the V6 but markedly improved fuel economy for a manageable $560 premium over base.
Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k
Tue, 07 Oct 2014Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.
