This car was purchased new in 1979 by my brother-in-law's parents at a local Ford dealership.  It has 18,343 actual miles and has spent its entire life inside a garage.  It is a true survivor with absolutely no rust. When I bought it a few weeks ago, the neighbor said he had never seen it out of the garage - according to my brother in laws family, it was last used in 2007 or 2008. I drained 12 gallons of stale gas out of the tank, replaced a bad fuel pump, installed a new battery, and this car started and ran like a champ with just a few cranks on the starter.  Car runs smooth and drives good.  There are a few issues - the tires are not weather checked, but "thump" as the car is driven as they have sat for so long.  Air Conditioner needs a recharge (typical on old Fords) The fuel gauge does not seem to work. The power steering shaft coupler is missing the neoprene or fiber insert so the steering is a little loose.  This is a $60 part - if I can find a replacement before the vehicle is picked up, I will have this fixed.  The hood ornament is with the car but needs to be put back on.  There are a few small dings and a few scratches here and there, but the paint is all original.  Car has never been wrecked.  I am hoping someone who appreciates such a survivor will buy this and turn it into a show car - with the factory wire hubcaps and factory sunroof, this car is sharp!

Ford reports 58% drop in Q2 profits on European losses

Wed, 25 Jul 2012

Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday that it has posted a $1 billion profit for the second quarter of 2012. That sounds like good news for the Blue Oval, until you take into account that Ford posted a $2.4 billion profit for Q2 a year ago. That is a substantial 58 percent loss.
Ford also posted $465 million in international losses, with $404 million of those losses coming directly from Europe. The automaker also increased its European loss projections to $1 billion for 2012, due in large part to the economic crisis overseas, which has resulted in increased unemployment and decreased consumer confidence.

2014 Roush Stage 3 Mustang

Fri, 26 Jul 2013

Up until now, it's been some years since I managed to get behind the wheel of the hot Mustangs tuned by the folks at Roush Performance. My memories of those vehicles are fond, as the Roush up-fits usually make for better-driving examples of the iconic Ford pony, with better-tuned suspensions, excellent short-shift kits and, of course, huge additions of power. The wake-your-neighbors aural characteristics of these cars have been nothing short of outstanding, too.
But in the years since my last experience with the Roush formula, Ford's own development team has churned out some pretty potent 'Stangs. We currently live in a world where the Blue Oval will sell you a Mustang with 662 horsepower from the factory, and the recently departed Boss 302 remains one of the best Mustangs - and best sports coupes - the Autoblog crew has ever driven.
So with great-driving and hugely powerful Mustangs coming straight off the line at Ford's Flat Rock Assembly Plant, does the Roush package still offer that extra special something to make it stand out? I spent a week with a Stage 3 coupe to find out.

Ford rethinking vehicle launch strategy

Tue, 07 May 2013

With a new boss at the helm, Ford is looking at new ways to improve its vehicle launches in North America to prevent recent issues that have popped up with models like the Lincoln MKZ, Ford Escape and Ford Fusion. Speaking with Automotive News, Ford's new president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, revealed a few ways the automaker plans to avoid early build issues such as the engine fires on certain 2013 Escape and Fusion models and months-long delays for customers to receive their MKZs.
It sounds like the root of the problems may have been Ford's relationship with suppliers compounded by the fact that the product surge came on the heels of the recent industry-crippling recession, and in the AN article, Hinrichs says improvements are being made to reduce problems during the launch of new or redesigned models. Three such improvements that were implemented during the first quarter of this year including more rigorous quality comparisons, better use of computer technology to catch major problems sooner and hiring engineers to work closer with suppliers.
