1955 Ford Fairlane  Club Sedan 2 door. 272 V8 4 barrel carburetor, 2 speed automatic transmission, factory dual exhaust, power steering, power seat, day / night rear view mirror, and deluxe antenna.  This car is 58 years old and in very good condition for it's age but needs and deserves  a quality ground up restoration. The reason this car is in such good condition is that it was purchased new and owned by a Ford dealership mechanic for all but 7 years of it's life, and during 5 of those years he still maintained it when brought in for service. This Fairlane for the most part has sat in storage since the mid 60's. It was sold new and remained within 30 miles of the same north eastern small Kansas town it's entire life.  The body is amazingly straight, and from a magnet check appears to only have minimal bondo above both rear wheel arches. The car has had a repaint and lets just say that it is less than quality, from 20' away the car looks good but up close there are a few runs some checking, some thin spots and some bare metal. There is through rust in both rockers, and there is some bubbling and minimal through rust low in both quarters. The exterior trim although not perfect is in very nice condition. The bumpers are straight, but do need to be re-plated. All of the glass is intact, but the windshield is cracked, and the drivers door glass is cracked, the rest of the glass is nice. The interior is actually the worst part of the car, it is all there and intact but, 58 years old and needs to be replaced from the headliner to the carpet. The dash is very nice with everything is in it's place as it should be. A set of 3 Stewart Warner gauges, an AM/FM radio and a speaker have been added below the dash.  The floors are brown and crusty looking on the belly and from what you can see under the carpet, but appear to still be solid with no soft spots. The trunk floor is solid. The car is still wearing it's original 15" wheels and original full wheel covers which are in decent shape, but the tires are a mismatched set of bias ply, radial, and snow tires, but they do all hold air. The odometer reads 41,594, but I have no documentation to verify if it is actual or not.  The last time this Fairlane was started and moved under it's own power was about 5 years ago, but has not been on the road since the 60's. The engine will still turn over and is not seized up, the engine appears to be original with it's oil bath air cleaner, original 4 barrel carburetor, and did you notice the plastic windshield washer bag, how many of those have you seen lately?.  If you like these old Fairlanes and are looking for one to restore, I would think this one would be a good candidate, with a great base to build on, it is complete, will not have you chasing down a lot parts and has not been molested or abused as many were. A good Missouri title will be furnished with the car. I have tried to describe this car to the best of my ability but have probably missed something that you need to know if so just ask. If you would like to inspect this car is person prior to the end of the auction again just ask and arrangements will be made. The car is currently not running or road worthy and will need to be hauled to it's new home and the winning bidder will be responsible for all transportation costs if required. Thanks for looking, if you are interested good luck in the bidding and have a great day.

Who sold the most heavy-duty pickups in 2012? PickupTrucks.com investigates

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Domestic manufacturers enjoyed a good year for heavy-duty pickup sales in 2012. PickupTrucks.com has taken a close look at exactly how those sales broke down between each manufacturer and between three-quarter and one-ton pickups. Ford sold some 67,786 F-250 Super Duty models last year with the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD falling just behind at 56,359 units. The Ram 2500 HD came in third at 41,918, while the GMC Sierra 2500 HD earned itself fourth place with 27,616 deliveries. While Ford held onto the top spot in the one-ton market, Ram easily nailed down second place by selling more 3500 HD models last year than General Motors sold Silverado 3500 HD and Sierra 3500 HD trucks combined.
So, did GM manage to sell more trucks than Ford with its two brands? Very nearly. Ford sold a total of 119,338 heavy-duty pickups to GM's 111,555. Ram, meanwhile, moved a distant 77,583. But perhaps more interesting is the diesel take rate in this segment. PickupTrucks.com says 80 percent of all domestic one-ton trucks roll from the dealer lot with a turbo-diesel under the hood. Head over to the site for a closer look at the breakdown.

Autoblog editors choose their favorite racecars of all time

Thu, Feb 26 2015

If you like cars, there is a good chance that you like racecars. There's something about the science and the art of going faster, of competition, of achievement, that accelerates the hearts of enthusiasts. It doesn't matter the series, the team or the manufacturer – there's something about racing that stirs emotions and lifts spirits. It's that way with many of you, and it's that way with our editors. With that in mind, we offer a list of our favorite racecars of all time. Of course, we'd like to hear some of yours in the comment section below. 1970 Porsche 917 Compared to some of the obscure choices by my colleagues, I feel like the Porsche 917 is almost so obvious a pick as to not be worth mentioning. Still, when coming up with my answer, my mind invariably went back to this classic racer – specifically in its blue-and-orange Gulf livery – while watching Le Mans on DVD and later Blu Ray with my dad. Long, low and curvaceous, few vehicles have ever looked sexier lapping a track than the 917. More than just a pretty face, this beauty had speed, too, thanks to several tunes of flat-12 engines over the course of its racing life. In the early '70s, Porsche was a dominant force throughout sports-car competition, and the 917 (shown above at the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona) was the tip of that spear, including back-to-back victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Largely without dialogue or really much of a traditional plot, Le Mans is like a tone poem of racing goodness. While the 917's importance to motorsports history is undoubtedly fascinating, it's still this cinematic depiction of the Porsche racer that draws me in most, especially with the volume cranked. – Chris Bruce Associate Editor 1964 Mini Cooper S How could everyone not be selecting the 1964 Mini Cooper S piloted by Paddy Hopkirk and Henry Liddon? That car, 33 EJB, took the first of British Motor Corporation's four Monte Carlo Rally wins (it should have been five, but French judges got the British Minis [and Fords] disqualified on a technicality regarding headlights... which its own car, the winning DS, was also in violation of). The tiny red car and its white roof beat out Ford Falcons, Mercedes-Benz 300SEs and scores of Volvos, Volkswagens and Saabs. This, along with the several years of dominance that followed, cemented the idea that not only could the tiny, two-tone Mini be a real performance vehicle, but that family-friendly city cars in general could be fun.

Ford settles class action suit over defective Navistar diesel engines

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

The 2003 Ford F-Series Super Duty (shown above) introduced the 6.0-liter Power Stroke diesel supplied by Navistar, and while that is an engine Ford would love to forget, it's now one step closer to putting that particular problem behind it. Automotive News is reporting that Ford has settled a class-action lawsuit brought on by problems with this engine that started right out of the gate and ultimately broke up the 30-year relationship between Ford and Navistar.
Owners and lessees of 2003-2007 Super Duty trucks and E-Series vans equipped with the 6.0-liter Power Stroke are eligible for deductible reimbursements of between $50 and $200 from the original five-year/100,000-mile engine warranty, while Ford is paying out as much as $825 for out-of-warranty engine repairs. These repairs may include the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler, EGR valve, oil cooler, fuel injectors and turbocharger, but are only covered if the components failed before six years or 135,000 miles.
In total, Ford has agreed to pay about 50 percent of the value of the repairs and deductibles paid by its customers who submit a claim before the end of this year, and $150,000 is going to the 16 named plaintiffs in the case; Navistar was not included in the lawsuit.
