The light rings around the rear tailights have a few dimples in them. The exterior chrome needs to be buffed out and the paint is very faded, but will rub out if one works on it long enough. I have done it twice and it does take some time and effort. The drivers seat is torn on the left top side of the bucket seat and the dash has a couple of cracks in it."

A nice 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 XL Ranchero, Red exterior with Black interior. Bucket seats with console and automatic shifter on the console. It has a 289 V8 2 barrell carb with dual exhaust. It comes with a trailer hitch, and rear air shocks. The vehicle needs some love and attention. The red paint is faded, and the chrome in need of some elbow grease. I have had the vehicle for 17 years and drove it as my daily driver for the first few years I owned it. For the most part the body is in great shape, all straight sheet metal, only one minor spot of rust (see pics) and the chrome bumpers are straight. The tailight rings on the rear have a few dimples in them (see pics) as does the front grille piece (see pics). The drivers seat has a tear on the top left corner of the seat back (see pics). The dash board has cracks in it from sitting out in the sun. This car has sat out in the open for many years as you can tell by the faded paint. I have tried to show pictures of all the areas of the car, especially with the defects listed above in them. The engine has not been started in 3 years and I think I might have dropped a push rod when I shut it off last time. I was trying to start the engine and it stopped and spun backwards. I have tried to free the stuck engine, but I am physically unable to do much physical work anymore, so I am going to let some lucky car person who is looking for a great car, take possession and reap the benefits. The transmission and brakes work great. This will make a great project car with the only major issue being the stuck engine. Once running you will love the car. Please ask questions as I want potential bidders to be satisfied with what they are bidding on. The car does have air conditioning but does not work.

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

How privacy fears are driving automakers in the age of the connected car [w/poll]

Wed, Aug 27 2014

A recent GAO report concluded car companies don't adequately disclose how and why they share location data. As cars collect and store more and more data about the whereabouts of their drivers, automakers are responding to critics who say they should be more transparent about how those details are used. Ford is hiring a global privacy policy attorney to craft the company's customer privacy policies in the era of connected and autonomous cars. "In this emerging space, there is an important need to address customer privacy policies," reads a job description posted on the "people and careers" portion of the company's website. "As part of our compliance and ethics organization at Ford, this person will have an immediate and direct impact in shaping existing and future policy and corporate thinking in this area." Ford is creating the new position, based at its Dearborn headquarters, at a time technology advances are outpacing privacy protections. Earlier this year, a report from the federal government concluded car companies don't adequately disclose to motorists how and why they share location data. That report, from the Government Accountability Office, found many car companies did not describe how they shared location data, did not allow consumers to request their data be deleted and that there was a "wide variation" in how car companies retained vehicle-specific or identifiable location data. It noted there is increased risk of location data being used in ways "consumers did not intend." Ford was one of 10 companies the GAO surveyed while compiling its report. Customers are opting to share that data largely by using features like maps and turn-by-turn direction that are run by a vehicle's telematics unit. Depending on the company, it can be unclear how that data is collected, retained or shared. At the time the GAO report was issued, AAA, the nation's largest motoring club, urged carmakers to be more transparent in how they handle data and to offer stronger security protections. Shaping Autonomous Car Regulations At Ford, the new hire could change how the company handles that data. According to the job description, the successful applicant will, "demonstrate visionary thinking around privacy strategy – imagine how consumer and employee expectations around privacy may evolve and how business should adapt, develop approaches that maximize the benefit of data sharing for consumers and business, etc." (Emphasis from Ford).

Ford won't be releasing GT500 lap times for the 'Ring, or any other car

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

Trucks have towing capacity, EVs have driving range and performance cars have Nürburgring lap times. What do all three have in common? They should all be taken with a grain of salt. Currently, there is no sanctioned way to record lap times or verify production-spec cars - a lesson we recently learned with the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo - and until there is a way to do so (and there probably never will be), we'll never officially know the actual time it took for Ford to lap the 'Ring with its ultra-powerful Shelby GT500.
After posting a Ford-made video of a 2013 GT500 running around the 'Ring, the guys over at SVTPerformance.com (an enthusiasts forum not affiliated with Ford or SVT) wanted more answers. They got in touch with Ford's Global Performance Vehicle Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi, who said until there is a way to verify the times and inspect the cars, Ford will not get involved with lap-time wars. In the email, Hameedi pointed out that the 'Ring is a useful tool in that it allows a wide spectrum of track conditions, but until there is a governed way to record times, there is no way to accurately compare cars head-to-head.
And as much as some may not like it, Hameedi speaks the truth. It really isn't possible to compare times from one car to another, unless those cars were lapping the same track at the same time with the same driver. Not that any of this means there won't be continuous wars by fans and manufacturers alike... in other words, feel free to voice your opinions in the Comments below.
