1959 Ford Retractable Hardtop on 2040-cars
Huntington Beach, California, United States
This is being re-listed to fix the description below.
I'm selling my 1959 Ford Retractable Hardtop PROJECT CAR. Please read the entire description carefully. I have 100% Feedback and I want to keep it that way. THIS IS A PROJECT CAR!! I've been restoring this for some time and last summer I had just finished the rough body work on the Passenger side when tragedy struck and I can no longer finish the car. This car was planned to be a rest-mod. The body was removed from the frame, the frame was sandblasted and powder coated gloss black. All new rear springs along with new front bushings, tie rods, upper and lower ball joints and front springs. All the suspension parts were also sandblasted and powder coated. The brake lines are installed, but no linings are in the drums yet. The Body was placed on a rotisserie and I painstakingly cut out every inch of rust, and butt-welded patch panels where needed. the wheel wells were reconstructed from fresh metal and spot welded back in place. Butt-welding 20 gauge sheet metal is no easy task, but after completion, more sandblasting and 3 fresh coats of 3M Sound Deadener/sealer, the underside looks brand new. After removal from the Rotisserie, the body was repaired in the same fashion as the underside, lots of patience and butt-welding of panels to insure a flat repair. The Passenger side has the 1st coats of filler and it is primed black for the time being. The Driver side has all the welding done, and awaits the first coats of filler. This is where the project stopped. I have both front fenders and the hood; they rate a 9 out of 10 due to a few small rust spots that need to be fixed. The deck lid is in excellent condition with no rust at all. All the Front Inner fenders and air scoops are wrapped in bubble wrap and stored inside the car, having been sandblasted and powder coated. All the seats are there as well but need recovering of course. The Drivetrain is unbelievable. THIS IS NOT A NUMBERS MATCHING BLOCK- IT'S BETTER!!. I used a 1963 FE 352, Block #C3AE6015H and bored it out to a standard 390 FE. I have all the receipts. There is a 1968 Mustang Crankshaft turned 10 over, with only the best internals including 68' ford rods Part # C7AE-B, ARP bolts, Edelbrock Cam, Edelbrock Intake, Edelbrock Timing Gears, Edelbrock Valve Springs. The heads are 1968 Mustang high compression heads, Part # C8AE H, that are set up for unleaded fuel with hardened seats. Mallory Ignition system and of course a brand new radiator. It runs excellent and I estimate the HP at just under 400. The exhaust system is all Stainless Steel tubing and sounds awesome. The engine was balanced internally. The transmission is a crate Ford FMX from Broader Performance. I have this receipt as well. The rear-end has been converted to Posi to handle the 400 HP the engine puts out. The starter is a 1-off old style "folomatic" with clutch and extra windings to be able to turn the compression of the car. It must weigh 40 pounds by itself. The car has plasma coated headers too. From the pictures you can see that there are brand new wiring harness ready to install plus almost all the parts needed to finish the car. READ CAREFULLY- THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME MISSING PARTS, but I estimate that the car is 90%+ complete. The lucky buyer will get all the receipts I have plus 50+ pictures in hard-copy form, detailing the disassembly. I'm in well over 10k on this car, but my reserve is way less than half of that. I will help load the car up if necessary if you are an out-of-state buyer. I'm a "car guy" so don't be afraid to ask my any question. I've restored many of these cars and have a thorough understanding of the systems. I'll give you the straight scoop for sure! Clean Title-never titled in my name, but I do have a clean title for transfer. Good Luck and happy bidding. |

For thousands of US auto workers, the downturn is already here
Thu, Jun 22 2017LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Wall Street is fretting that the auto industry is heading for a downturn, but for thousands of workers at General Motors factories in the United States, the hard times are already here. Matt Streb, 36, was one of 1,200 workers laid off on Jan. 20 - inauguration day for President Donald Trump - when GM canceled the third shift at its Lordstown small-car factory here. Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan, the only vehicle the plant makes, have nosedived as consumers switch to SUVs and pickup trucks. Streb is looking for another job, but employers are wary because they assume he will quit whenever GM calls him back. "I get it," said Streb, who has a degree in communications, "but it's frustrating." Layoffs at Lordstown and other auto plants point to a broader challenge for the economy in Midwestern manufacturing states and for the Trump administration. "This is about economics, not what Trump says. Even if Trump went out and bought 10,000 Cruzes a month, he wouldn't get the third shift back here." The auto industry's boom from 2010 through last year was a major driver for manufacturing job creation. The fading of that boom threatens prospects for US industrial output and job creation that were central to Trump's victory in Ohio and other manufacturing states. "This is about economics, not what Trump says," said Robert Morales, president of United Auto Workers (UAW) union Local 1714, which represents workers at GM's stamping plant at Lordstown. "Even if Trump went out and bought 10,000 Cruzes a month, he wouldn't get the third shift back here." Last week the Federal Reserve said factory output fell 0.4 percent in May, the second decline in three months, due partly to a 2 percent drop in motor vehicles and parts production. Mark Muro, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, has compiled data from government sources that show the auto industry punching higher than its weight in job creation in recent years - accounting for between 60 percent and 80 percent of all US manufacturing jobs added in 2015 and 2016. In the first quarter of this year, the auto industry accounted for less than 2 percent of the 45,000 manufacturing jobs created. "There's no argument with the idea that auto has been pulling the manufacturing sled up the mountain for the last three or four years," Muro said.

Ford recalling 850,000 cars and SUVs for airbag issues
Fri, 26 Sep 2014Ford has announced a major recall of 850,000 vehicles from model years 2013 and 2014 due to a problem with the "restraints control module."
According to Ford, a short circuit could develop in the module, causing the airbag warning light to illuminate. In more severe cases, dependent on where the short develops, the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners may not work in the event of an accident. The problems can be more wide-ranging than that, too, as systems that rely on information from the control module, such as the stability control can be affected.
With 850,000 vehicles affected, it's no surprise that some of Ford's volume leaders are covered. That includes the Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans, as well as the incredibly recall-prone Escape and the C-Max MPV.
