You are bidding on a barn fresh 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 4 door sedan. This car was put into a steel building in April of 1994 until I discovered her and brought her back to daily driver status. This car has been very well preserved. The following parts are all brand new: battery, points, condenser, coil, plugs, gas tank, fuel pump, tires, master cylinder rebuilt, brakes, changed oil, air filter, added new trans fluid, gear oil, coolant, and one new headlight. The glass in this car is in great shape - no cracks in any of it. It is 1950's double pane so it has the standard yellowing glue on the edges. Very little rust anywhere. The front fenders have rust on the bottom corner (patch pieces are available for around $60.00 each - easy repair) the rockers are very solid with only a small amount of rust in on the very rear, the lower rear quarters have pretty light rust and patch panels are also available online but may not really be needed. The worst rust is the trunk right at the body mounts behind the wheels (a small sheet of 18ga steel and 30 minutes of welding will fix this) and a body mount under the passenger floor panel is getting rusty. The spare tire cavity is perfect and rust free (this is a very common area of rust on these cars). The car had a factory undercoating so it is in remarkably good condition all around. It has dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers and new chrome tips. It rides pretty good but could use an updated suspension (perfect candidate for an air ride system) - I am currently driving it to work and back everyday so it is certainly road worthy. The engine runs smooth, idles good, accelerates, cruises on the highway. The interior is in good shape as well. The front seat is starting to get thin and the foam is hard but the back seat is in great shape. I installed brand new period correct seat belts in the back for the kids but the front does not have any. The carpet needs to be replaced but it is mostly there. The headliner is stained and has a couple small holes but it isn't falling down - still tight. The entire dashboard and gauges look like they came off the assembly line yesterday. These cars only have 5 digit odometers so it impossible to verify milage but I know this: there is an oil change sticker inside the drivers door from 1970 and the mileage is listed at 44,658. There is another oil change card on the dash from 1978 and the mileage is 53,641. The guy I bought it from said the previous owner wasn't driving it but he drove it home from there. I believe he took the missing front trim pieces for another car he had then put it into storage in 92. Sorry for the long post just trying to be accurate & detailed. This is a great running car, a survivor, and it is great to have it back on the road. Bid, win then take it to the next level with a full restore, air bag it with some gold rims, or just drive it as the time capsule that it is. Car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Thanks for looking.

Michigan museum offers Model T driving classes

Sun, 29 Dec 2013

Halfway between Detroit and Chicago, there is a car museum that gives visitors a unique level of interaction with antique cars. The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, MI has a driver's training class to teach people of any age to learn how to drive a Ford Model T.
From the crank starter to the column-mounted throttle control, this driving school teaches people all there is to know about driving and operating a Model T. Each class lasts about two and a half hours and is only open to 18 students. There are ten sessions planned for 2014 - twice a day on May 3, June 22, July 22, August 23 and September 14. The class costs $95 (or $85 for members), and it also includes a tour of the museum's automobile collection.
In addition to this driving school, the museum has plenty of exhibits on the property, and it's open all but three days per year (Easter, Christmas and New Year's Day) with free admission for school field trips and active military. Be sure to check out the Gilmore Car Museum's website or visit them on Facebook for more info.

Former Ford president, Jaguar chairman Nick Scheele dead at 70

Sun, 20 Jul 2014

We have the privilege here at Autoblog of reporting a lot of good news, but it is our duty as well to report the bad news and sad news as well. And this is one of those occasions as the automotive industry mourns the passing of one of its leaders.
Nick Scheele was born in the UK in 1944 and joined the Ford Motor Company upon graduating from the University of Durham in 1966, staying within the Blue Oval's portfolio for the entirety of his career. After moving to North America in 1978, he rose through the ranks to become president of Ford's Mexican operations in 1988. After acquiring Jaguar, Ford appointed Scheele as its chairman.
Scheele subsequently acted as chairman of all of Ford's European operations, making difficult decisions to take the division out of the red and into the black. He briefly headed up Ford's North American division before he was appointed in 2001 as president and chief operating officer of the global automaker, working under CEO Bill Ford following the departure of Jacques Nasser departure and retaining the role until his retirement in 2005.

2015 Ford Mustang production to begin on July 14? Not quite, says Ford

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Mustang6g.com believes that it has unlocked start date for 2015 Ford Mustang production citing a Ford dealer communiqué. According to the report, job one on the 2015 hardtop will allegedly start in just a few days, on July 14, although units that are known as "OK to Buy" won't enter production until September 9. The cars built between those dates are most likely final pre-production cars for the executive test fleet, and will likely include the cars we'll be driving at the media launch.
Sun worshippers, meanwhile, would seem to have a longer wait. Job one on the droptop supposedly isn't slated to start until September 14, with production models starting on October 27. As is the case with the hardtop, these final pre-pros are for the execs and media to test, while actual dealer orders will come from vehicles made after the October date.
After speaking to Ford, though, we wouldn't put a great deal of stock in those dates as reported. We reached out to Said Deep, Ford's North American Product Communications Manager.
