LOST MY STORAGE - SO THE PROJECT HAS TO GO ! MY KID AND I PURCHASED THIS A FEW MONTHS AGO WITH THE INTENTION OF DROPPING IN A REBUILT ENGINE (ABOUT $1,500 ONLINE) AND HAVING SOME FUN RE-DOING THE INTERIOR AND MAYBE THROWING IN AN A/C UNIT FOR HOT TEXAS SUMMERS. UNFORTUNATELY, I NO LONGER HAVE A STORAGE SPACE FOR IT - SO SOMEBODY ELSE IS GONNA GET THEMSELVES A VERY NICE CLASSIC PROJECT, THAT SHOULD BE EASY TO COMPLETE. NOW, THE ENGINE MAY BE SALVAGABLE, I DON'T KNOW. THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM TOLD ME HE WAS TOOLING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AFTER RETURNING FROM OKLAHOMA WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND SPUTTERED TO A STOP. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET IT TO TURN (AND HONESTLY HAVEN'T PUT MUCH TIME IN TO TRYING) BUT I WOULD ASSUME HE GORKED IT. HE WAS RUNNING THE CAR BETWEEN TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA AS LITTLE AS SIX MONTHS AGO. I DO KNOW THERE ARE A NUMBER OF REBUILDERS ONLINE WHO CAN SHIP A LONG BLOCK FOR ANYWHERE FROM $1,500 TO $1,999. ALL THE ENGINE BOLT-ONS AND ACCESSORIES APPEAR TO BE EITHER NEW, REBUILT OR IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE - INCLUDING THE EDELBROCK UNDER THE ORIGINAL AIRCLEANER. ALL THE GLASS IS ORIGINAL AND IN GOOD SHAPE, EXCEPT FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE GLASS WHICH IS FUNCTIONAL, BUT CRACKED. OF COURSE, WITH ANY UNRESTORED VEHICLE THIS OLD, A LOT OF THE RUBBER AND WEATHERSTRIP IS GOING TO NEED TO BE REPLACED. ON THE PLUS SIDE, THE RESTORATION/REBUILD WAS ALREADY BEGUN BY PREVIOUS OWNERS, WITH MANY NEW BRAKE AND SUSPENSION PARTS. THEY ALSO CONVERTED TO A 12 VOLT ALTERNATOR, FROM A SIX-VOLT GENERATOR. THE REASON I BOUGHT THIS IS BECAUSE THE CAR APPEARS VERY SOLID, WITH NO VISIBLE RUST THROUGH. THERE IS SOME SLIGHT PAINT BUBBLING HERE AND THERE - BUT NOTHING I DON'T THINK CAN'T BE GROUND OFF AND SURFACE FILLED. I TOOK A PICTURE OF THE "WORST" SPOT, (OTHER THAN THE AFOREMENTIONED DRIVERS FLOOR AREA). I WAS TOLD WHEN IT WAS RUNNING IT TRACKED STRAIGHT AND HAD GOOD BRAKES. THE TRUNK INTERIOR LOOKS REAL SOLID AND SOME PANELS UNDER THE HOOD HAVE BEEN REPLACED WITH NEW. THE ONLY PLACE THAT IS GOING TO NEED SOME METAL WORK (AS FAR AS I CAN TELL FROM A LIMITED INSPECTION) IS THE DRIVER-SIDE FLOOR, WHICH HAS SOME RUST THROUGH. THE GAS PEDAL IS GONE AS WELL. I SAW A REPLACEMENT PANEL ONLINE FOR ABOUT $35 BUCKS THAT SHOULD POP RIGHT IN. THE PEDAL WILL RUN YOU AN ADDITIONAL $12. I WAS GONNA PICK UP A WELDER AT THE HARBOR AND HAVE SOME FUN LEARNING SOME SPOT WELDING. THE INTERIOR NEEDS A COMPLETE RE-DO FROM HEADLINER TO CARPET. THE SEATS WERE RECOVERD, BUT NOT VERY WELL. THERE IS NEW(ER) CARPET IN THE CAR - BUT IT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. MOST (IF NOT ALL) INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR TRIM APPEARS TO BE WITH THE CAR. THE DOORS WILL NEED NEW PANELS, BUT I THINK ALL THE TRIM IS THERE AS WELL. THE FRONT SEAT BASE IS IN THE TRUNK. THIS IS MOST LIKELY A "TIME PROJECT", NOT NECESSARILY A "MONEY" PROJECT - FOR A NICE DRIVER. THE CAR STILL HAS VALID OKLAHOMA TAGS AND WAS RUNNING AS LITTLE AS SIX MONTHS AGO - SO WITH A LITTLE WORK - IT SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO AGAIN. I HAVE MORE PHOTOS AVAILABLE, AND AM WILLING TO INVESTIGATE/PHOTOGRAPH ANYTING ADDITIONAL YOU MAY NEED. I WILL BE AVAILABLE TO HELP YOU GET THIS ON A TRAILER, OR ASSIST YOUR TOW GUY IF NEEDED. I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO SEE THE CAR IN PERSON BEFORE YOU BUY, BUT CAN TELL YOU - EVERYTHING LOOKS PRETTY SOLID. |

2014 Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost to hit 45 mpg for $16,445*
Mon, 28 Oct 2013When Ford first announced its plan to put the 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine under the hood of the 2014 Fiesta, it promised hybrid-like fuel economy without a hybrid-like premium. We're still waiting for official specs on this engine, but thanks to the EPA's fueleconomy.gov website and Ford's retail site, we now know what customers can expect in terms of both fuel economy and price.
All along, Ford has said that it expects the 1.0-liter EcoBoost to get more than 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and now the EPA backs this up with official ratings of 32 mpg in the city and 45 mpg on the highway. These numbers are an increase of two mpg city and four mpg hwy compared to the current fuel-sipping Fiesta (the 1.6 SFE), and it also beats other three-cylinder cars for highway mileage like the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage (44 mpg highway) and 2014 Smart Fortwo (38 mpg highway); the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost is lower than both three-pot rivals, though, in city fuel economy with the Mitsubishi getting 37 mpg city and the Smart rated at 34 mpg city. This model handily beats high-volume small cars like the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Chevy Spark in both city and highway numbers.
As for pricing, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost is offered on both the sedan and hatchback as a $995 option called the SE Manual EcoBoost package, which is aptly named since it's only offered on SE trim-level Fiestas equipped with a manual transmission. Along with the engine, the package also comes with 15-inch steel wheels, regenerative brakes and a decklid spoiler on the sedan. This means the four-door Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost will start at $16,445*, or $17,045* for the hatchback (*not including $795 for destination).
Ford Escort testing, may be bound for Europe
Tue, 01 Apr 2014There has been little news about Ford's China-focused Escort concept since debuting at last year's Shanghai Motor Show, but the no-frills sedan has shown its camouflaged face again during cold weather testing in Northern Sweden. While far from a guarantee, the test location might hint that the Blue Oval plans to market the car outside of Asia.
The Escort's black robe and zebra paint make it hard to tell if anything specific has changed about the design, but the shape of the sedan looks close to what was shown in Shanghai. Under the disguise, you can still make out the hexagonal front grille from the concept. When Ford announced the model, the company said that the design wasn't supposed to be "arrogant or pretentious," and it certainly achieved that. The engine range is still a mystery, but it seems safe to expect small, economy-focused powertrains.
A report from last year indicated that Ford may be considering broadening the new Escort beyond Asia and possibly even selling it in Europe. The fact that the company brought it to Sweden for testing could bolster that argument. A release date hasn't been set yet, but the automaker has promised 15 new products for China by 2015. The basic sedan could be on the road soon.
Last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible nets $500k for charity at Barrett-Jackson [w/video]
Tue, 13 Aug 2013The last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible was sold on Saturday at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Reno, Nevada, for $500,000. Ford donated the Mustang to be auctioned for charity, and all of the money is going to the Brain Injury Association of America.
Parnelli Jones, winner of the 1963 Indianapolis 500, was there on behalf of the BIAA with his son Page, who suffered a brain injury in a sprint car crash in 1994. The bidding increased quickly, reaching $500k in no time, spreading a bit more hope to people who live with brain injuries.
The winning bidder will be able to choose the GT500's exterior, interior and stripe colors, and is scheduled to receive the car, signed by Parnelli Jones in appreciation for the donation, by the end of 2013. Watch the video below to see the auction-block action.
