THE TRUCK HAS BEEN LIFTED 4 INCHES AND HAS 35 INCH TIRES WITH 80 PERCENT TREAD. THE PAINT IS VERY NICE FOR THE AGE AND ONLY HAS MINOR IMPERFECTIONS, WHICH I GOT IN THE PICTURES. YOU KNOW WHAT THESE TRUCKS GO FOR ON HERE THIS ONE IS WELL BELOW THOSE WITH SIMILAR OPTIONS AND THIS MILEAGE. THE GOOD: I JUST SPEND NEARLY $1000 ON THIS TRUCK. THIS WEEK I PURCHASED TWO NEW BATTERIES,A NEW WINDSHIELD, FLUID,GASKET AND FILTER CHANGE FOR THE TRANSMISSION. I ALSO JUST CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER. THE REAR END HAD A DRIP SO I HAD THEM REPLACE THE FLUID AND GASKET ON THIS TOO. THE TRUCK HAS A NEW VACUUM PUMP AS WELL.THE AC HAS JUST BEEN CHARGED. NOW FOR THE KNOWN IMPERFECTIONS IN THE TRUCK: THE AC BLOWS JUST NOT COLD, COULD BE A SIMPLE FIX I REALLY DONT KNOW. THE TRUCK NEEDS A FEW TRIM PEICES ON THE INSIDE. LIKE A FEW MOLDING PEICES AND AN INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY VIEWED THIS LISTING YOU SAW THAT I POSTED THAT THE TRUCK WAS SHIFTING FUNNY. WELL THE TRUCK WAS OVERFILLED ON FLUID. IT NOW SHIFTS MUCH MUCH BETTER. THERE MAY BE A SLIGHT HESITATION BETWEEN THE 1-2 SHIFT, EVERY E40D IVE HAD HAS BEEN THIS WAY THO. IT ALSO NEEDS A SHIFT CABLE FOR THE TRANS. THE DISPLAY ON THE GAUGES DOES NOT INDICATE THE ACTUAL GEAR THAT ITS IN. Motorweek goes retro with '80s hot hatch shootout
Mon, 03 Nov 2014Motorweek's decades of history on television make it the perfect medium to look back into the automotive past and see how things are different now. It recently added old road test videos to its YouTube channel of the Acura NSX and Toyota Supra, as well as the Ferrari F40. For one of its newest flashback clips, Motorweek has exhumed an affordable five-car challenge of 1986's premiere hot hatches.
By today's standards, this is an eclectic field that features fondly remembered classics like the Volkswagen GTI 16-valve and Acura Integra. However, it also throws in some nearly forgotten contenders like the Dodge Colt Turbo and Ford Escort GT. The angular Toyota Corolla FX16 GT-S rounds out the group.
It's fascinating to watch Motorweek run the quintet through the slalom, down the drag strip and on various roads. What's most striking in this clip is the difference in the definition of a performance car between then and now. With its 16-valve, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, the GTI is the burliest of the contenders with 123 horsepower, but it still takes 8.8 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour. By today's standards, that would make it a plain-jane economy car, and not even a particularly quick one.
Big electric trucks won't save the planet, says the NYT
Tue, Feb 21 2023When The New York Times decides that an issue is an issue, be prepared to read about it at length. Rarely will a week passes these days when the esteemed news organization doesn’t examine the realities, myths and alleged benefits and drawbacks of electric vehicles, and even The Atlantic joins in sometimes. That revolution, marked by changes in manufacturing, consumer habits and social “consciousness,” may in fact be upon us. Or it may not. Nonetheless, the newspaper appears committed to presenting to the public these pros and cons. In this recently published article titled, “Just How Good for the Planet Is That Big Electric Pickup Truck?”—wow, thatÂ’s a mouthful — the Times focuses on the “bigness” of the current and pending crop of EVs, and how that impacts or will impact the environment and road safety. This is not what news organizations these days are fond of calling “breaking news.” In October, we pointed to an essay in The Atlantic that covered pretty much the same ground, and focused on the Hummer as one particular villain, In the paper and online on Feb. 18, the Times' Elana Shao observes how “swapping a gas pickup truck for a similar electric one can produce significant emissions savings.” She goes on: “Take the Ford F-150 pickup truck compared with the electric F-150 Lightning. The electric versions are responsible for up to 50 percent less greenhouse gas emissions per mile.” But she right away flips the argument, noting the heavier electric pickup trucks “often require bigger batteries and more electricity to charge, so they end up being responsible for more emissions than other smaller EVs. Taking into consideration the life cycle emissions per mile, they end up just as polluting as some smaller gas-burning cars.” Certainly, itÂ’s been drummed into our heads that electric cars donÂ’t run on air and water but on electricity that costs money, and that the public will be dealing with “the shift toward electric SUVs, pickup trucks and crossover vehicles, with some analysts estimating that SUVs, pickup trucks and vans could make up 78 percent of vehicle sales by 2025." No-brainer alert: Big vehicles cost more to charge. And then thereÂ’s the safety question, which was cogently addressed in the Atlantic story. Here Shao reiterates data documenting the increased risks of injuries and deaths caused by larger, heavier vehicles.
Ford's Troller introduces even more rugged T4 SUVs in Sao Paulo
Mon, 27 Oct 2014The Bronco may be long gone from Ford dealerships back home, but down in Brazil its spirit lives on in the Troller brand. Founded independently in 1995, Ford do Brasil took over Troller in 2007 and has been teasing us with its rough-and-tumble SUVs ever since. So with the Sao Paulo Motor Show coming up, Troller has revealed this special version of the T4.
Looking even more rugged than the existing three-door sport-ute, this special T4 packs a snorkel, winch, upgraded bumpers and knobbier tires. We're not sure what to make of the "sophisticated" brown and tan paint job, but send it north and the Jeep Wrangler would have a new challenger on its hands... especially since the Toyota FJ Cruiser was discontinued.
Alongside the version seen here, Troller will also exhibit another T4 outfitted for rescue workers. Scope out initial details of both in the press release below, enclosed in both its original Portuguese and auto-translated into English.
