1989 Ford F-250 diesel 2wd 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive.  It has a clean and clear MN title.  This truck runs, shifts, and drives great!  This has the original non-turbo 7.3 International diesel motor.  The tires are in great shape with over 3/4 tread left all the way around. I also have an aftermarket Kenwood CD player installed.  It has working dual gas tanks too.  Right now the only issue with it is that the emergency brake/antilock dash light stays on due to a stuck switch (emergency brake works fine). It has a plug-in block heater that helps it start right up in the winter. The diesel gets good fuel economy; I have gotten as high as 19mpg on the freeway.

This is the extended cab with the 8' long box.  It can seat 6 people inside and pull anything! The interior is in good shape for the year, only one tear near the driver's side of the bench.    I also have an aftermarket Kenwood CD player installed.

This truck was always stored winters prior to this year and the body is super clean.  Check out the pictures of the rust-free frame rails and the pictures of the original factory spot welds on the inner wheel well lips not showing any signs of rust.  I had the truck painted last year because the paint was faded (no rust or body work had to be done).  This truck has never been in an accident and the body is straight with no Bondo or filler.  They also sprayed the inside of the bed when they painted it and I have not hauled anything since so it still looks nice.  The body and paint are not perfect; there are a few small spots here and there but overall it is in great shape for a driver-quality truck and it gets compliments all the time.

If you are looking for a classic truck that is reliable and practical this one is worth a look. I drive this truck on 100 mile trips about twice a week without any issues. I wish I could keep it but I just don't have the room in the driveway as my family is moving.  This truck has been well cared for it's whole life and it shows.  You will not be dissapointed.

A $200 non-refundable downpayment through paypal is required within 48 hours of auction end.  The rest can be payable through cash, cashiers check, or money order but it must clear before the truck leaves my property.  I can help arrange for shipping at your cost or pick you up at the Minneapolis/St Paul airport if you fly in and want to drive it home.  Please feel free to contact me with questions.  The truck is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early.

Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell revisit bitter F1 rivalry in... Ford Fusion campaign?

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

Formula One World Champions Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell haven't been on good terms since the 1986 season, when Piquet joined Mansell at the Williams team and Piquet spent the year privately fuming about not being granted the status of number one driver. Things only got worse from there - even though Piquet won the title the following year with Williams, still partnered with Mansell, the fuming was a lot less private.
They're back together after a 25-year silence, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil to drive the new Ford Fusion. Called "Fusion Grand Prix," both men get the new Ford sedan, prepped to their liking - but still street legal, we assume - for a race to decide... well, who is faster behind the wheel of a Fusion.
There will be four episodes, with the first two having already aired. The third episode comes on January 29 and the race happens February 5. You'll find two video episodes and a press release below, but note - because it's a campaign for Ford Brazil, Piquet's dialogue in the vids isn't translated, so hit the Closed Captioning button to hear his side of the smack talking.

Ford fixing 130k vehicles in three recalls

Wed, Oct 28 2015

Ford is issuing three new safety campaigns that cover a total of 130,801 vehicles in North America, but the company has no reports of accidents, injuries, or fires from any of these issues. The largest of these campaigns covers 128,823 examples of the 2009-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX that are currently registered or originally sold in rust-prone areas of North America, including 110,636 in the US. On these crossovers, "corrosion under the reinforcement brackets where the fuel tank is mounted" can potentially result in a fuel leak. To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the tank and will repair or replace it as necessary. The affected locations are: Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin; and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec. Ford is also recalling 1,906 North American examples of the 2016 Mustang, including 1,900 in the US, because of possible damage to some components during shipping to the factory. On the affected pony cars, "dealers will replace front and rear seat belt assemblies, rear seat buckle assemblies, and child tethers," the company says in its statement. Finally, the smallest campaign is for 72 units of the 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab in North America, including 65 in the US. On these, the trailer brakes don't activate when pressing the brake pedal, and dealers need to update the powertrain control module software. Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.
