This is a 54 Ford F100 pickup that me and my grandpa restored from the ground up from about 1992 to 1996.  It started out basically stock and we made it a street rod.  It has a Volarie independent front end which was rebuilt.  It has a 289 / C4 combo which came out of a '66 mustang.  The engine and trans mounts were custom made.  The engine was overhauled and I believe is .20 over.  It has a competition cam, MSD electronic distributor, weiand dual plane intake manifold, holly (around) 500 cfm carb (which was rebuilt 2 months ago) Edelbrock valve covers and Hooker Headers.  It had a problem with the one of the lifters and the entire top end was redone (with new hydrolic lifter, new head, and all new gaskets) less than 2 months ago.  The trans was rebuilt and the 9 inch Ford rear end has new bearings and seals in it.  There are also custom made traction bars for the rear end and approx. 300 lb steel plates put in the rear to make the ride nicer.  The brakes were redone less than 2 months ago.  The car was repainted and the rain gutters were removed along with having the bed filled.  The tail gate chains were removed and chrome latches were put on to clean up the look.  The running boards have a bed liner spray on them, so that you can step on them without scratching them.  The upholstery was redone and is custom.  R 12 A/C was installed.  All new door and window channel was installed.  A tilt column with custom made aluminum brackets were installed.  The gas / brake pedal was also custom made by my grandpa on his vertical / horizontal mill he had at the time.   The seat is out of a 90 chevy truck I believe.  The gas nozzle was removed and a carma gia door was installed to clean up the look.  The door handles were shaved and power windows were put in.  I believe all the glass is brand new.  A new bed kit was bought and installed.  '39 ford teardrop lights were put into the fenders and a roll pan replaced the bumper.  The car has a Genie shifter to make it more convenient.  The car obviously has power brakes.  It can be started with both key and start button.  New radiator.  New wiring all around.  All new hoses, belts, alternator, etc.  It has the orig. gauges in it to give it that old feel.  The color is a Suburban Blue with a grey in it which is why the color scheme goes so well with the car.  Overall the car just has a really good look and great color combo which makes it just a really appealing car.  Everywhere I drive it people always go out of there way to complement me on it.  I just drove it back from my grandpa's garage to my house which is about 90 miles through LA traffic on a friday afternoon so, it's definatly road ready.  Why am I selling it you ask?  I'm recording my album which takes time and money so I really have to get rid of it and free up some funds.  My grandpa keeps telling me I'm going to regret selling it.  Now, the car sat in his garage from 1996 till about 6 months ago, when I put about $5k in it to rebuild the top end, put brakes on it and fix most of the odds and ends that need fixing.  During the time that it sat the following has happened; The tilt hood which was off fell into the fender and dented it.  Some of the wood in the bed had moisture on it and has taken up some of the stain.  The temp gauge is not accurate.  The beauty rings, hub caps, and shifter arm have spots from not keeping it regularly polished, the front end is out of line, it has the occasional chip / crack in the paint.  The upholstery is dirty and needs steam cleaning.  The carpet has a burn from welding slag near the drivers door.  The A/C system needs freon.  The lifters need some slight adjusting as one is clacking (new lifters need a little tampering to get going right).  The drivers interior door handle is stuck and needs to be freed up to open the door.  (You can do it by hitting the automatic button on the key chain).  The hood needs some more adjustment to get it perfectly lined up.  I'm being super picky right now with everything, but if all this stuff was done it would literally be a perfect car (ie most people wouldn't do all this stuff, but I want to be thorough).  The pic's I've provided should do it justice so one can see every little flaw this beauty's got.  This would be a really great truck for someone who doesn't really know a lot about cars but want's to tinker in their free time.  The super hard stuff is done (engine, front end / rear end install, bodywork) and it's just little stuff here and there that need to be attended to.  I have a reserve and if you want to figure out what it is bid! Ha Ha.

Oprah at it again, gives car away on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Sat, 17 Aug 2013

Oprah Winfrey loves giving away cars. Not only has she given Pontiac G6 sedans and Volkswagen Beetle retro-mobiles to everyone in the audience of her past show, but the other night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! she gave another car away to one lucky audience member, while yelling her now-famous line: "You get a car!"
Although the acting of Oprah and Jimmy Kimmel was obviously staged for this giveaway, the reaction from the woman in the audience was genuine shock as she found out that she had just won a new Ford Fusion Energi. Congrats!
Not to take away from what Oprah and Jimmy pulled off, but our cynical sides have to wonder if there isn't more than just a little coincidence that this giveaway took place on the same day that Ford announced a fuel economy reduction for the C-Max hybrid. You be the judge... Scroll down to watch the short clip from the episode.

eBay Find Of The Day: 1988 Saleen Ford Mustang General Tire 21R race car

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

Saleen may be making headlines these days for working on the Tesla Model S, but its history and bread-and-butter is all about the Ford Mustang. The rear-wheel-drive Dearborn pony cars singlehandedly put the company on the map in the '80s. Founder Steve Saleen was already a talented American racing driver when he started the venture, and like many auto industry businesses before him, Saleen went to the track to prove his vehicles' worth. Now, there's a chance to buy one of those early racers on eBay Motors.
Saleen Mustangs raced in the Sports Car Club of America Escort Endurance Championship - a series of multi-hour races meant to challenge man and machine. Ostensibly a showroom stock class, the cars had larger wheels, tuned suspensions and other upgrades that stretched the concept slightly. Saleen found major success though, taking the championship for its class in 1987 and winning the 24 Hours of Mosport consecutively from 1986 through 1988.
According to the seller, Saleen only built eight of these cars, and this one carries the #21R serial number. They all started life as new Mustangs from Ford dealers but were immediately stripped and prepped to go racing. Beyond obvious mods like a roll cage, they featured eight-inch wide wheels in front, an inch of additional track width, stiffer suspension bushings and much more.
