Custom built show truck.  This truck was built by Hill Hot Rods and JD Glassworks.  Nothing but the best in parts, materials, and workmanship.  Beautifly crafted with subttle body modifications, perfect paint, and crafted leather interior.  This truck was on the cover of the Nov 2011 Street Trucks magazine with a full feature inside.  It was also featured in the Apr 2012 GoodGuys Gazzete in recognition of it's pick as the 2011 Truck - Late.  The truck is built on an original Ford frame heavilly modified and rebuilt by No Limit Engineering with their Mustang II independent suspension in front and 4 link in the rear.  The frame has been notched and fully plated.  A Shreiner full floating rear end and Currie third member tuck up under the bed.   The truck rides on custom Bonspeed Quasar wheels; 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 in the rear. The stock F100 cab, front clip, fenders and running boards were after they were chemically stripped and fully repared.  The cab receved a roofline chop and the hood was pancaked.  Wheelwells were raised and reshaped.  The bed was custom fabricated with flush mounted rear tail lights.  The front grille bar was smoothed and also fitted with small flush mounted turn signal lamps.  Everything was painted in Spice Rum and customed Cream PPG paint. The motor is a Ford Racing Boss 302 rated at 340 horse power.  Induction is through an Edelbrock 600 CFM arb and Performer intake.  Coated Doug's headers flow the exhaust.  The interior is custom leather by JD Glassworks and executed in Whisper Cinnimon leather.  Every aspect of this truck is show quality.  You won't be disappointed.

This truck is for sale locally and the seller reserves the right to end the auction early if a qualified local buyer comes forward.

Saab-powered Ford is the most unlikely drift car we've seen

Tue, Jan 19 2016

Yes, you read that headline correctly. It's supposed to be a Saab-powered Ford, and not the other way around (although we fully support the notion of a Sonnet with a Flathead V8). Apparently, some lunatic in the UK took an ass-less 1953 Ford Anglia, paired it with a turbocharged Saab engine, and tuned the entire thing to go drifting. We like it. Called Urchfab, it's the subject of Carfection's (the blokes formerly known as XCar) latest video. Aside from looking like an extra from the British version of Mad Max, it has a problem with grip, in that there's just too much of it. This car is a fabber's dream, as we get to see its unnamed owner fashion new bits and bobs for the suspension before having an unfortunate encounter with a wall at Castle Combe. You can check out the full video up at the top of the page for a closer look at this monstrous Anglia. Related Video:

Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.
