1972 Ford F100 Explorer Package. This is a really neat, mostly original truck. I have driven it mostly as a "go to the hardware store" truck for the past year. Starts right up and has never left me stranded. Strong 390 V8 engine and a good shifting 3 speed automatic. Engine sounds very good and the exhaust has been dumped near the rear axle. Sounds mean. This truck has alot of options. See below as I think it has all options from package A through D. Some are missing now (hubcaps and bright box rails), but as you can see, came with alot of special package items. From decoding the VIN the truck was manufactued in February of 1972 in Kansas City and ordered by the Dallas district. Golden Rod Yellow paint with Medium Ginger interior and black mat flooring. 4,550 GVW and it looks like this truck has the special "helper shackles/springs" for that little bit of extra carrying or towing capacity. All of the gauges work, the odometor still works and is showing 11,513.4 at the time of listing. I can only assume this to be 111,513 miles. I will say that the truck looks very good for a 44 year old truck. Now, there are several dings and dents over the entire truck and the paint is not showroom condition by any means, but, overall it looks very shiny and in good shape. As you will see in the pics, the front drivers side fender looks to have been repainted at one time and it has not kept the same shade of yellow over the years. Additionally, this truck has AC and it still blows (compressor not turning by belt) but the unit under the dash still turns on and blows. I have the correct belt for the compressor and it will be included with the sale. Compressor does turn freely. I repaired the top AC suction line as it was cracked and I can only guess that this was the reason for the AC not working. I have not tried to charge it since the belt is not on. But, it may be just a belt installed, charge and you have a working AC. Has an aftermarket radio and 4 speakers with nice wooden cabinets. 2 under the dash and 2 in the B pillers of the cab. The seat is in great shape on the top/back section, the bottom section is in need of repair so a bench seat cover was put on. But the top section literally looks just a few years old underneath. Has a set of later model chrome factory wheels with a very good set of Cooper tires. Lots of tread left. Has a recently replaced alternator. All of the exterior lights work. Turn signals work as well as brake lights. I replaced the side marker lights with a nice chrome set on the back of the bed. So, if you are looking for an almost all original truck this is a good one. Most if not all of the trim is still on the truck. It does look like it came with bed top rails from the below article, this truck does not have them. The holes are there but rails long gone. Will need a new dash pad or the old one just taken off as it is cracked. The windsheild also has a crack in it. Windows roll up and down good and the locks work. The shifter on the column is a little persinickity at times but shifts. Looks like the arrow and the letters sometimes don't line up so you just have to make sure you are in the correct R, N, P, or D. Not a big deal but wanted to point that out. Sunday Drive: Rendering the future at Jeep and Ford
Sun, Apr 8 2018Last week brought us quite a wide variety of automotive news nuggets, and judging by the response of our own readership, the Jeep Wrangler pickup truck led the way. It's not expected to hit the sales floor until April of 2019, which means we've all got an entire year to wait, but that just means we have lots of time to anticipate its arrival. And we do so today with a series of renderings that show what the so-called Scrambler may look like in a few different colors. Another set of renderings depicting a hotly anticipated new vehicle follow just behind. The Baby Bronco – will Ford ante up to the retro-inspired table and call it the Bronco II? – will be one size smaller than the regular-grade Bronco, and we think it'll compete with the Jeep Renegade as a subcompact crossover with some real off-road chops. Moving onto some tuners, both old and new(er), we first present a sweet old Dodge Ram pickup truck tuned by none other than Carroll Shelby himself. The blue and silver striped truck looks so period perfect that it stands out as a star even alongside a quartet of vintage Shelby Mustangs with which it will share space at the Bonhams auction in Greenwich, Conn., this June. And finally we turn our attention to the Hennessey Veliciraptor, an absolute behemoth of a truck. Based on the most excellent Ford Raptor, the Velociraptor ups the crazy quotient with six wheels and 600 hundred horsepower. 2015 Ford Shelby GT350, GT350R Mustang option pricing leaked [UPDATE]
Tue, Apr 28 2015UPDATE: Ford wasn't willing to elaborate on Mustang6G's pricing report, with spokesperson Said Deep simply saying, "We haven't announced pricing at this time." The limited availability of the new 2015 GT350 and GT350R isn't the only Ford Mustang news today, as a leaked report by Mustang6G has shined a light on the cost of the optional equipment we first reported on way back in January. First, we have the standard GT350. As we reported earlier, only 50 cars will get the $7,500-Tech Package, which includes magnetic ride control, navigation with Sync 3, dual-zone climate control, and heated, air-conditioned, leather-upholstered, and powered seats. The other 50 standard models will get the $6,500-Track Package. You'll still get magnetic ride control, selectable driving modes and enhanced cooling systems for the engine oil, trans and diff. Stand-alone navigation is $795, a black roof is $695, stripes are $475, and as with the standard Mustang, Triple Yellow Clearcoat paint is $495. Fancy one of the just 37 GT350Rs? You'll pony up (pun intended) an extra $3,500 on top of the price of a GT350. From there, Mustang6G cites a $3,000-SVT Touring Package, which we think references the Electronics Package (navigation, Sync 3, and dual-zone climate control). Outside of those two items, the GT350R's only additional options include a black roof, stand-alone nav, and stripes, all of which carry the same price as the standard car. Like our report earlier today, these prices appear to only be for the 2015 model. While production outputs for the 2016 will probably increase, we can't be sure whether these prices be carried over, as well. Mustang6G claims it will have a starting price "very soon," which we'll naturally bring you as soon as it's published. Ram 1500 bests new F-150 in MT pickup shootout
Tue, Nov 25 2014Ford's 2015 Ford F-150 is a technological tour-de-force, what with its aluminum-intensive construction and its powerful and efficient new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine option. But now that it's hit the market, it's time to get down to brass tacks and find out how just the latest F-150 actually stands up to its rivals in the hyper-competitive fullsize segment. Motor Trend is among the first to round up the Ford (in Lariat 2.7-liter 4X4 guise here) and put it up against the Ram 1500 Outdoorsman EcoDiesel 4x4 and 5.3-liter-equipped Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71 to find out how Dearborn's new-think truck measures up. The test put the trio through over 1,000 miles of tough driving in California and Arizona in a variety of conditions from just cruising around unladen to hauling a trailer. MT found all three trucks to be competent, but the most praise got heaped on the Ram and the Ford, with the Chevrolet falling a step behind its competitors in many tests. Among the Ford's most-liked features was its 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 that helped make the F-150 easily the quickest of the group, with some editors saying the engine felt about the same whether driving around with cargo in the bed or not. There was some minor turbo lag during acceleration while trailering, but that issue affected the Ram, too. The Ram's powertrain was lauded, as well. The EcoDiesel was torquey around town, and the 1500's combination of an eight-speed automatic and air suspension was judged to be the best of the lot. It was the most difficult to get into the bed, though. The Ram also won the fuel economy award by netting 20-miles-per-gallon city and 28-mpg highway in the test to beat its Environmental Protection Agency ratings of 19/27. The Ford's EcoBoost managed 17/22, one mpg off each from the EPA numbers, and using a lot of throttle really depleted its efficiency. As MT notes, however, it would take time for the diesel's mileage savings to pay off at the pump for these two trucks. In the end, the Ram just barely eked out the win, with the title partially earned because of "the Ford's unknown maintenance and aluminum repair costs," according to MT.
