1970 Ford F100 Ranger Xlt Short Bed | California Truck | 360 V-8 | 3 Speed on 2040-cars
Fargo, North Dakota, United States
Just in from Palm Springs, California, this truck is a beauty. It appears to have had one repaint. It's no show truck, but it has a very shiny black finish that looks very good. I get many thumbs up driving this one; it's a driver - looks good, and you don't have to fuss over it and worry about every little nick and scratch. I don't want to overstate (or understate, really) the looks of this truck - it has chips and flaws here and there, etc... however, it really is shiny and nice looking. And, since I believe the truck to have been a California truck all it's life (Calfornia title will be sent to you upon purchase), it is as rust-free and nice as any 44 year old west coast vehicle can be. Underneath is as clean as the top side. The bed appears to have never been used for work - I'm guessing the pickup must have been mostly a passenger vehicle, as I was unable to find any sign that the bed had seen any real truck use. Also, I'd guess that it had an older restoration on it, as the fuel system was full of old fuel when we bought the truck - we've since had thousands of dollars worth of work done on the truck, and I will gladly include the receipts with the sale. Powered by Ford's 360 V-8, this three speed (on the tree) truck has manual brakes and manual steering. While in Palm Springs this winter, the truck was completely serviced; brakes checked, wheel bearings packed, all fluids flushed and refilled - coolant, brake fluid, transmission and rear end, Holley carb rebuilt, new fuel filter and new fuel tank / sending unit along with a new battery. New glass pack mufflers were added to the dual exhaust. New Rocket Racing Torq Thrust rims were installed. A complete new clutch, flywheel and throwout bearing have been installed, along with a new speedometer cable. Three-point shoulder seat belts are already installed in the truck, replacing the factory lap belts. New "Ranger XLT" side emblems were added (if you notice the photos with the white "Ranger" were the old emblems, the reproduction new emblems have a black "Ranger" as shown in one of the photos - the old emblems had flaking paint and one was broken. The brand new emblems really set off the look of the truck!) In addition, a few areas of the paint were attended to - an area on the driver's door was professionally repainted below the trim, a spot on the rear top of the cab and also the top half of the tailgate were repainted. The truck originally had woodgrain decals on the side trim and tailgate - they were decaying and in bad shape, so the trim was removed and stripped of all wood grain, and bright red paint added for a much sportier look. One piece of vinyl was replaced on the lower driver's side seat (it had worn) otherwise the upholstery seems to be fantastic original. There are a few things here and there that you could do if you choose - the truck can be enjoyed as-is or easily take to whatever level you wish. This vehicle is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to remove this listing any time. If you're seriously interested in the truck, make me an offer and we can discuss it. I'll be glad to work with your shipping company and assist in any way I can. The truck is located in Fargo, ND 58103. If you buy the vehicle, you are BUYING the vehicle! If you need your wife, dog, therapist or anyone else's approval before bidding, make sure you do so. Please make sure you have the funds to actually follow through with the purchase of this vehicle, should you choose to do so. Mileage note: the title is exempt from mileage, due to age. Consumer Reports says Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevy are big winners in brand perception survey
Wed, 05 Feb 2014According to Consumer Reports, the automotive brands that stand out in the minds of car buyers are, in order: Toyota, Ford, Honda and Chevrolet. This news comes after the magazine polled its readers, asking them to take into account vehicle quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation - which are the factors that car shoppers are most influenced by.
It's important to note that this award is only about perception. In other words, it's perceived quality, not actual quality. "Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category, and it can also be influenced by headlines in the media," said Jeff Bartlett, Consumer Reports deputy automotive editor.
The brand that made the biggest jump in perception amongst Consumer Reports readers is Tesla, which posted an impressive 47-point gain to finish in fifth place. Subaru is also notable for finishing in the top 10, despite being one of the smaller manufacturers doing business in the US. Scroll down below for all the details from Consumer Reports, if you're so inclined.
Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?
Mon, 17 Dec 2012In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.
MyFord Touch getting buttons and knobs back to counter criticisms
Mon, 17 Jun 2013Ford deserves credit for being a front-runner in offering advanced infotainment technology with its Sync and MyFord Touch systems, but continued consumer complaints over its confusing touchscreen interface and capacitive controls has made the automaker relent. The Wall Street Journal reports that physical buttons and knobs for controlling tuning and volume will be coming back to Ford vehicles equipped with the controversial infotainment system.
The 2013 F-150 with MyFord Touch gives us a glimpse of what the new layout with buttons and knobs might look like, as Ford says a similar balance of touch screen capability and buttons/knobs are what's being planned for future models. And, while capacitive controls have no fans in the halls of Autoblog, many of Ford's models with MyFord Touch do have a large physical knob for adjusting volume with integrated buttons for tuning and advancing tracks, though most of those are models with the optional upgraded Sony Audio system. Lincoln models with MyLincoln Touch, however, feature only capacitive controls for all stereo and climate functions.
Despite receiving enough complaints to throw buttons and knobs back into the mix (a move that reminds us of BMW's iDrive trajectory, among others), Ford reports that Sync and MyFord Touch have still been sold on 79 percent of its 2013 model year vehicles, a number it claims is double the rate that Honda and Toyota are getting for their infotainment systems. Ford also states that owners who do opt for the duo of technologies are more satisfied with overall vehicle quality than those who don't have it.
