 BODYWORKER'S  DREAM  PROJECT  TRUCK

A rare 1960 F-100 with a great combination of features:   Remanufactured 292 V-8, 4 Speed, Front Disk Brake Up-Grade, Original Power Steering, Long Bed, Custom Cab w/ Wrap-Around Rear Window and Trailer Hitch.
Key systems professionally over-hauled or replaced; what remains of the restoration project is cleaning up the rust (I've done the hood) and a new paint job (I was quoted $3,500).  Original paint on a dent free body is what you have to work with.
1)  292 V-8 remanufactured by Marshall Engines, Kearney, Nebraska (A remanufactured engine is superior to a rebuilt in both power and durability.)
    - Carried a 36 month/100,000 mile warranty/expired
    - 9500 miles since remanufacture
    - Edelbrock 4-Barrel Carb and Intake Manifold;  Headers w/ new Exhaust System;  Low-end Torque Cam
2)  Cooling and Fuel System - complete replacement
3)  Power Steering & Front Suspension - complete overhaul
4)  Power Train (clutch, transmission, limited-slip differential) overhaul/replace
5)  Braking System - Front Disk Brake Up-grade; rear brakes overhauled
6)  Seat Belts - upgrade to 3 Point Harness
7)  New Seals on all windows and doors
8)  Trailer Hitch - 2 Balls available - not shown.
9)  New Tires with overhaul
10)  Set of Ford Shop and Parts and Accessories Manuals
11)  One original black license plate is available; may be able to order a duplicate (at least in Calif.)
12)  17 page Invoice of overhaul work to all systems is available.
Condition issues:  Driver's vent window cracked, small rust-through hole at right rear of bed above bumper, also along bottom of tailgate, air vent and heater control cables hard to adjust, spot light does not work.  Dash cover needs to be replaced.  Also, I'd selectively re-chrome the grill and headlight areas.
History: Second owner; since early 1970s.  California truck except for 10 years in southern Arizona.
This is a great truck and I am sad I have to let it go - we're moving to Hawaii instead of settling back in Northern California.  Even when heavily loaded it handles well on both rural roads and in heavy freeway traffic; the "new" engine and its combination of mods/up-grades has resulted in a truck with plenty of power.
Oh yes, the factory AM radio still works and the nylon carpet covering the bed (see photo) is included.

Your official Ford Transit specs are here, $29,565* to start

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

Ford has released the full list of pricing and specs on its new Transit, the replacement for the long-lived E-Series cargo van. Prices are set to start at $29,565 and can increase rapidly from there, depending on length, engine and wheelbase, among other options.
Let's talk first about those new engines. The base is the familiar 3.7-liter, naturally aspirated V6. It boasts 275 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and can return up to 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. This engine can also be adapted to run on LPG or compressed natural gas. Of course, there are better alternatives, for a price, the first of which is Ford's well-received, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. It packs 310 hp and a best-in-class 400 lb-ft of torque (available at just 2,500 rpm) while matching the naturally aspirated engine in both city and highway fuel economy.
Then, there's the diesel. With a 3.2-liter, five-cylinder diesel mill at its disposal, the Transit generates 350 lb-ft between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm, along with 185 hp. This engine hasn't been rated by the EPA, although we'd be really, really surprised if it didn't handily best either of the gas-powered engines in fuel efficiency. A six-speed automatic is standard, regardless of engine.

8 cars we're most looking forward to driving in 2015

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Now that 2014 is officially in the books, it's time to look ahead. And following our list of the cars we liked best last year, we're now setting our sights at the hot new metal that's coming our way in 2015. Some of these, we've already seen. And some are still set to debut during the 2015 auto show season. But these are the machines that keep us going – the things on the horizon that we're particularly stoked to drive, and drive hard. Jeep Renegade Not the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Not the Ford Mustang GT350. Not the new John Cooper Works Mini. Nope, I'm looking forward to the adorable, trail-rated Jeep Renegade. And that's because I really, really, really like our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I do not, however, care too much for the Cherokee's looks, and I really don't like its $38,059 price tag. The Renegade Trailhawk, meanwhile, promises much of the same rough-and-tumble character as its big brother, but at what we expect will be a more reasonable price (I'm personally wagering on the baby Jeep's off-road model starting at no more than $23,000). With a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a nine-speed automatic, it should also be a bit easier to fill than the V6-powered Cherokee. Also, I can't help but love the way the Renegade looks. It's like someone took a Wrangler, squished it by 50 percent and then handed it off to George Clinton for a healthy dose of funk. The interior, with its bright, expressive trims and color schemes should also be a really nice place to spend some time. I'll be attending the Renegade's launch later this month, so I'll have a much shorter wait than my colleagues. Here's hoping the baby Jeep lives up to my expectations. – Brandon Turkus Associate Editor Mazda MX-5 Miata Here's an uncomfortable truth: I'd rather spend a day driving a properly sorted Mazda MX-5 Miata of any generation on a winding road than I would nearly any other vehicle, regardless of power, price or prestige. It's not just that I prize top-down driving and enjoy the Miata's small size because it gives me more road to play with. I just find there's more motoring joy to be had with high-fidelity handling and an uncorrupted car-to-driver communication loop than I do with face-distorting power or grip – let alone valet-stand gravitas. But perhaps most of all, I love Miatas because they can deliver that level of feedback and driver reward at modest speeds that won't put the locals on edge or endanger lives – you can use more of the car more of the time.
