Up for bid is a fully restored 1956 F-100. My intention was to build a stock appearing 1956 F100. There are some things that I did update such as the steering wheel, headliner, seatbelts, firewall cover and some misc clamps/hardware. Although it is a factory equipped V8/automatic/big window, it now has a later model 292 y-block and an FMX transmission. Every nut, bolt, bearing, seal, etc. on the truck is either replaced or rebuilt. All glass and weatherstripping is new except for the rear glass (which is good). It has less than 30 miles since restoration. All suspension/steering components are new or rebuilt(including kingpins). Engine and transmission overhauled. New radiator, heater core, and blower motor. All wiring, lights, switches, relays are new.Starter and generator rebuilt. The bed and all its components are new except for the fenders. The body is all steel. The lower door panels,r/h cowl, fenders and r/h cab corner was with new panels from LMC. All fuel and brake lines are new, as well as the master cylinder. Carb(Motorcraft) was sent out and rebuilt. All bumpers, emblems, chrome and stainless are new except for the front/back window trim and drivers mirror. New tires, hub caps, and beauty rings (except the spare).Completely new exhaust system. The truck starts right up and runs incredible, however it drives like a truck that was made in 1956. Manual steering and drum brakes on a leaf spring suspension is just what you would expect. You are also pushing the limit at 75 mph. It has typical rattles and road noise because it was restored back to stock and that's the way they were. There are some very minor paint flaws as pictured. One is on the forward side of the driver's door and the other is visible when you open the tailgate. I will include the paint/clear to touch up. On the interior, there is a small tear in the (new) floor mat and about a 1/4" in the (new) seat cover. The paint/clear is outstanding but some parts like the inner fenders could use cut/buff if new owner wanted. Keep in mind this isn't a $30k paint job though. I have all receipts and a fully documented library of photos of the restoration. I have the clear title in hand, and in my name. Thanks for looking and please feel free to ask any questions.

Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang appears at EAA Oshkosh

Sat, 26 Jul 2014

Ford is back at the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, WI, on July 31 auctioning off its seventh Mustang for charity, and this is one seriously mean looking 2015 'Stang. All of the money from the sale goes to give free introductory flights to young people to get them interested in aviation.
We recently saw this latest EAA Mustang as a sketch. However, it looks a whole lot more menacing in person. Dubbed the Ford F-35 Lightning II Edition Mustang, it takes liberal inspiration from Lockheed Martin's latest fighter jet, and the customization makes the pony car look ready for a role in Top Gun.
On the outside, the special Mustang wears titanium-color paint that's offset by a black and yellow stripe running from hood to rear. Out back things get really wild with a mix of bright yellow and black that flows diagonally all the way to the rear spoiler. The design is based on the livery of early production F-35s. If the rousing color scheme isn't enough to get you interested, the car also gets a carbon fiber front splitter and rear diffuser, lowered suspension and a set of custom 21-inch wheels with yellow brake calipers.

Verizon buys Telogis in connected vehicle market push

Wed, Jun 22 2016

(Note/disclaimer: We are owned by Verizon, by way of AOL. This gives us no inside track whatsoever when it comes to news.) With a lot of tech companies and automakers staking their claims in the connected car space, now there are signs that others are looking to move in, too. Today, telecoms giant Verizon announced that it is acquiring Telogis, a California-based company that develops cloud-based solutions for mobile workforces, and specifically telematics, compliance and navigation software used by Ford, Volvo, GM and other car companies, as well as Apple and AT&T. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, although we'll try to find out. Considering that Verizon in 2015 reported full-year revenues of $131.6 billion, the price would have to be very high to be considered "material" and may not be made public for some time, if ever. Telogis in its time as a startup raised a substantial amount of money, just over $126 million in all, including $93 million in 2013, supposedly ahead of an IPO, all from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Back in 2013 when KPCB made its investment (which was the first from a VC firm in the company), Telogis told TechCrunch it was profitable and forecasting revenues of $100 million annually for the year. It's not clear what size those revenues are now, but if it was on the same growth trajectory as before the funding, sales would be around $150 million annually, with profitability, at the moment. Other investors include some very notable strategics: the investment arm of General Motors, and Fontinalis Partners, which also invests in Lyft and was co-founded by Bill Ford, the executive chairman of the Ford Motor Company. Before the acquisition, Verizon actually had a business in fleet management and telematics; in fact, the two companies competed against each other for business from the trucking and other industries. Verizon Telematics, as the business is called, is active in 40 countries. But in a way, Verizon buying Telogis is a sign that the latter may have proved to be the more superior, and the one with the key customer deals.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
