This auction is for a fully loaded black, 2000 Ford Explorer XLT V-8 with a towing hitch, roof rack, hitch rack, and snow chains. The truck is in great condition for a 13 year old car. It was just professionally detailed and has always been adult driven, has never been smoked in, driven off-road, or otherwise thrashed, crashed, driven hard, or abused. It has been a trusted member of our family for 10 years and we have returned the favor by taking excellent care of the car. It's had 174,000 easy miles of running around a suburban town, with an occasional camping trip. We are selling because it's time to move on to something newer and we need a car with a third row seat. The car runs like a top and with the V-8 power, when you step on the gas you know it. This truck has a lot of guts and there's no doubt it can handle a towing load.
We are the second owners and purchased the car in 2002 with 36,000 miles from a local car dealer in Westlake Village, California. We paid $19,000 and the original MSRP on the vehicle was approximately $25,000.
The car is serviced regularly and we have most of the maintenance records. The Michelin tires were purchased at Costco in 2007 and still have lots of tread left. It has a new starter, new bulbs in the instrument panel, new cruise control switches, new door lock remote control, and new door lock actuators, and new floormats. The air conditioning blows cold. In 2009 the transmission was overhauled and it runs perfectly. The oil was changed very recently at Jiffy Lube and it will be another several thousand miles before it is due for its next oil change, etc. When you drive the car away it will also have a full tank of gas. This car is turn-key and ready to roll.
As a bonus, the car was just registered and is not due again until May, 2014.
There is normal wear and tear in the interior including some fading of the dashboard and tears in the driver's leather seat. The leather on the steering wheel is warped and we have put a very nice steering wheel cover on it. The exterior has normal dings and scratches and two small dents. The most serious exterior flaw is fading/oxidized paint on the roof. The stereo with 5 CD changer works great but the digital display is burned out. This is a California car and there is no rust damage. There are no mechanical problems with the car that I am aware of. See photos for cosmetic issues.
Please note that the car is also being advertised locally, so this auction can be canceled at any time. And the car, of course, is being sold "as is."
Thank you.

2015 Ford Mustang GT Line-Lock Burnout
Mon, 03 Nov 2014In this brief Short Cut, Autoblog's Steven Ewing demonstrates Line-Lock on the 2015 Ford Mustang GT. Accessed through an on-screen performance menu, the feature temporarily locks the front brakes to help you heat up the rear tires for better traction, as you would for drag racing. The result? A 15-second smokescreen.
Production Ford Escort heading for Beijing
Wed, 16 Apr 2014Ford's long-dormant Escort nameplate returned affixed to a sedan concept at last year's Shanghai Motor Show. While not exactly a beauty, it showed a clean, straightforward take on Ford's current styling. The Blue Oval said at the time that it wanted to create a model that was stylish "but not one that is arrogant or pretentious." Job done. A year later, it looks like the minimalist vehicle might make its production debut at the Beijing Motor Show.
Autocar claims that the streetgoing version has been confirmed to it for the upcoming show, but so far, Ford isn't saying. If unveiled, the Escort is likely to be produced locally for the Chinese market with a domestic partner. Powertrain details remain a secret, but it seems highly likely that any production model would use a small three- or four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. Sales in other major world markets like ours are unlikely, but a test car was recently spotted in Europe.
Autoblog contacted Ford for confirmation, but the automaker demurred, with a spokesperson saying only, "At the moment, we are not confirming any vehicles planned for the show." It looks like we will have to wait to know for sure.
Ford taken to task by gov't for Chicken Tax end-around
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Ford is in a bit of a pickle for importing and selling Turkey-built Transit Connect cargo vans as passenger vehicles in the US, then converting them to commercial-vehicle specification stateside in an effort to bypass a 25-percent tax imposed on vehicles imported for commercial use. Automakers are required to pay a 2.5-percent tax on imported passenger vehicles.
The Blue Oval got into trouble for this in a January ruling in which U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials asked Ford to stop the practice of importing the Transit Connect vehicles with passenger seats, then removing and shredding them. Now Automotive News reports that Ford is appealing the ruling. The 25-percent "Chicken Tax," as the tariff is often called, is 50 years old and was enacted as a response to a German tariff on chickens. Like Ford, Chrysler bypasses the higher tariff, but it does so in a different manner. It partially disassembles Sprinter cargo vans before shipping them to the US, then rebuilds them at a plant in South Carolina.
But the ruling against Ford's strategy states that it "serves no manufacturing or commercial purpose" and is there to "manipulate the tariff schedule," Automotive News reports. As Ford's appeal goes through, it is importing the Transit Connect and paying the higher tax, hoping for a favorable outcome and planning to build the next-generation Transit Connect, which it plans to launch before the end of the year, in Spain.
