This 2000 Ford Explorer XLT from Texas drives great... Inspected through October-2014. Cold dual AC, factory CD sound system, had an engine/trans replacement 80K ago. High miles, but suspension and steering is tight, brakes are strong, the XLT tracks down the road just right. Good battery. 50% mixed tires are balanced. There are no fluid leaks, no exhaust leaks, engine compartment is clean, hood-shock doesn't work so prop it with a stick (included!). Interior and exterior is good for the year, original exterior paint clear-coat and chrome is almost like new. Never smoked in, no evidence of pets, the carpets are full, fresh and clean, leather is good except for two front seat bottoms wear & tear. Both front seats are power and work properly. Power windows all work. Center armrest is worn... needs recovering. Seat belts are good. Back-up sensors work. Rear compartment shows no wear, cover is present, headliner is just right, no sagging. Dark tint second row back. Spare, jack, Haynes repair manual, rear wiper and ball hitch are present (Saris bike rack pictured is not included in this auction, but I will include another bike rack if buyer wants). Also front floor mats. Fog lights. All interior and exterior lights are working. Cruise does not work. There is a small center vertical windshield crack which does not affect vision. The drivers door has a hard-to see dent. Paint is not broken. Overall, the XLT should give a lot more miles safely and at 20-24 mpg. Ready for next oil change.
Now, please read this carefully: The transmission engages all gears, but shifting from 2nd to 3rd it slips. When the accelerator is tapped during the slippage, the third gear engages properly. This the way I drive it. Reading the blogs it seems this is a common problem for Explorers in different degrees. Could be a code, or anything. I do not know, I am not a mechanic. Always starts first turn and drives strong and safe, good tires and brakes, with ice cold dual air and a good sound system.
This is an authentic no-reserve auction on eBay and the high bidder gets the XLT. If you do not have a PayPal account, do not bid. If you cannot pay the $400 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of auction close, do not bid. If you cannot pay the balance in cash within 7 days of auction close, do not bid. The XLT is sold as is-where is with no warranty, implied or otherwise. I have title in hand and now let's get it started...Bid early and bid carefully and bid often...GOOD LUCK & HAPPY BIDDING!!

Nuclear-powered concept cars from the Atomic Age
Thu, 17 Jul 2014In the 1950s and early 60s, the dawn of nuclear power was supposed to lead to a limitless consumer culture, a world of flying cars and autonomous kitchens all powered by clean energy. In Europe, it offered the then-limping continent a cheap, inexhaustible supply of power after years of rationing and infrastructure damage brought on by two World Wars.
The development of nuclear-powered submarines and ships during the 1940s and 50s led car designers to begin conceptualizing atomic vehicles. Fueled by a consistent reaction, these cars would theoretically produce no harmful byproducts and rarely need to refuel. Combining these vehicles with the new interstate system presented amazing potential for American mobility.
But the fantasy soon faded. There were just too many problems with the realities of nuclear power. For starters, the powerplant would be too small to attain a reaction unless the car contained weapons-grade atomic materials. Doing so would mean every fender-bender could result in a minor nuclear holocaust. Additionally, many of the designers assumed a lightweight shielding material or even forcefields would eventually be invented (they still haven't) to protect passengers from harmful radiation. Analyses of the atomic car concept at the time determined that a 50-ton lead barrier would be necessary to prevent exposure.
Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. In addition, the company will replace all of the vehicle's wheel studs free of charge. Head to the NHTSA website for more information, and click past the jump to view the full recall notice.
Honda poised for growth, Detroit to hold steady, Car Wars study says
Fri, Jun 5 2015The automotive industry is expected to keep booming in the US over the next several years, but the train might start running out of steam in the long term, according to 2015's Car Wars report from Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst John Murphy. The forecast focuses on changes between the 2016 and 2019 model years, and the latest trends appear similar in some cases to the past predictions. Sales are expected to keep growing and reach a peak of 20 million in 2018, according to the Detroit Free Press. The expansion is projected to come from a quick pace of vehicle launches, with an average of 48 introductions a year – 26 percent more than in 1996. Crossovers are expected to make up a third of these, maintaining their strong popularity. However, Murphy predicts a decline, as well. By 2025, total sales could fall to around 15 million units. As of May 2015, the seasonally adjusted annual rate for this year stands at 17.71 million. Like last year, Honda is predicted to be a big winner in the future thanks to products like the next-gen Civic. "Honda should be the biggest market share gainer," Murphy said when presenting the report, according to Free Press. Meanwhile, in a situation similar to Car Wars from 2012, a lack of many new vehicles is expected to cause a drop for Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan. Based on this forecast, Ford, General Motors, and FCA US will all generally maintain market share for the coming years. The report does make some future product predictions, though. The next Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra might come in 2019, which is earlier than expected. Also, Lincoln could get a Mustang-based coupe for 2017, a compact sedan for 2018 and an Explorer-based model in 2019, according to the Free Press.
