You are bidding on a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited. Single family owned from southern NJ, this truck is ready to give its new owner years of reliability and service. Other than hauling the occasional boat this truck was never worked. Its powered by the legendary 7.3l Powerstroke turbo diesel mated to an unstoppable 4x4 that together will get you in and out of any situation you might get yourself into. Aside from a small bump in the front bumper this truck has never been in any accidents and is all original paint. The paint looks and shines great although a few spots do need touching I didn't want to cover them up for the new buyer. The interior is very clean, coming from a smoke free environment and a clean household, you would think everyone took off their shoes before getting in the truck. Aside from less than typical wear on the drivers seat, the leather interior is beautiful. The engine starts right up at the first cycle of the glow plugs even in 20 degree weather, and runs cold just as good as it does warm, with no shaking or sputtering. I took a cold start video that somehow got corrupted but I will try again in the next day or so and upload that as well.  Now for the bad: Being from the northeast there is some rust and corrosion, but considering everyone else's trucks around here I would definitely put it in the less than average category. You cannot see the rust from the outside as its isolated to the rear door of the driver side rocker and corner, and as you would imagine the mounting point of the running board and the stress upon it softened the metal around it causing the failure of the rust proofing. The passenger side is not bad just a little bit on the rear corner. I have pictured everything and priced it accordingly. I would repair it and ask for more but that would take more time, and you the buyer would never know the extent of the original rust. There is no rust on the fenders and quarters behind the plastic molding as one would expect. The other rust is on the trailer hitch and surface spots that just need sanding and touching. I would also recommend a set of shocks and tires as the shocks are the original but still hold up well, and the tires are showing the beginning signs of cracking. I also haven't replaced these since some of you may want to skyjack and put bigger tires. All in all, its an awesome truck all around, I wouldn't hesitate to get in and drive her to Florida. There are no service engine lights on and aside from a sticky driver side "unlock" button, all the electrical features work as they should including the remote and cruise control. Any questions Please don't hesitate to call 908-977-6999.

This truck was thankfully nowhere near the storm of sandy. Clean and clear title in hand.

Ford opens the doors on its Swedish rally skunkworks

Fri, 19 Sep 2014

It's always amazing to see how different kinds of racecars are made. Formula One racers are often constructed in modern architectural marvels that hint at some of the cutting-edge technology going into the racing. Conversely, rallying is all about sliding around on a varied course as fast as possible, but it often leaves a vehicle caked in mud. So it makes some sense Olsbergs MSE, or simply (OMSE) rally car shop in Nynashamn, Sweden, shows technological sophistication in a more down-to-earth setting. It builds Ford Fiesta ST racers for Global Rallycross there, and this new video gives viewers a tour through the work.
Former rally driver Andreas Eriksson runs OMSE. These days instead of racing, he and the company's 46 employees are building Ford racers from scratch. A ton of work goes into constructing each one, and according to Eriksson, it takes 400 hours to complete each body. At times, things are so busy that some of the technicians live in the shop in apartments that are on premises. There's even a restaurant to keep them fed. Sadly the dyno room is empty during this visit, though.
By the time OMSE is done, a rallycross car might resemble a Fiesta ST on the outside, but as you see in the video, it's a completely different beast underneath. Check out the work it takes to build one of them, and scroll down to read more about it in the official release.

For EV drivers, realities may dampen the electric elation

Mon, Feb 20 2023

The Atlantic, a decades-old monthly journal well-regarded for its intelligent essays on international news, American politics and cultural happenings, recently turned its attention to the car world. A piece that ran in The Atlantic in October examined the excesses of the GMC Hummer EV for compromising safety. And now in its latest edition, the magazine ran a compelling story about the challenges of driving an electric vehicle and how those experiences “mythologize the car as the great equalizer.” Titled “The Inconvenient Truth About Electric Vehicles,” the story addresses the economics of EVs, the stresses related to range anxiety, the social effects of owning an electric car — as in, affording one — and the overarching need for places to recharge that car. Basically, author Andrew Moseman says that EV life isn't so rosy: “On the eve of the long-promised electric-vehicle revolution, the myth is due for an update. Americans who take the plunge and buy their first EV will find a lot to love Â… they may also find that electric-vehicle ownership upends notions about driving, cost, and freedom, including how much car your money can buy. "No one spends an extra $5,000 to get a bigger gas tank in a Honda Civic, but with an EV, economic status is suddenly more connected to how much of the world you get to see — and how stressed out or annoyed youÂ’ll feel along the way.” Moseman charts how a basic Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck might start at $55,000, but an extended-range battery, which stretches the distance on a charge from 230 miles to 320, “raises the cost to at least $80,000. The trend holds true with all-electric brands such as Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid, and for many electric offerings from legacy automakers. The bigger battery option can add a four- or five-figure bump to an already accelerating sticker price.” As for the charging issue, the author details his anxiety driving a Telsa in Death Valley, with no charging stations in sight. “For those who never leave the comfort of the city, these concerns sound negligible," he says. "But so many of us want our cars to do everything, go everywhere, ferry us to the boundless life we imagine (or the one weÂ’re promised in car commercials),” he writes. His conclusions may raise some hackles among those of us who value automotive independence — not to mention fun — over practicalities.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
