This is a 1986 Ford Escort Diesel 5-speed.  It is rare in that it is a diesel and there were not many of these sold here in the U.S.  I think this is about as clean of a car as you will find for the year and model.  I purchased this car with about 34,XXX miles on it from a fellow who had purchased it from an elderly woman who had had it in her garage for years and had barely driven it.  As far as I can tell these are the original miles.  I ran a carfax and there is nothing to suggest otherwise.  I have had a little over $2,500 worth of work done since I purchased it.  Mostly cleaning everything up and replacing things that needed to be replaced from sitting.  We are selling because we are looking for a small truck and do not have a need for this car anymore.

The Good: The car runs great and has been consistently getting 45-50 mpg.  It is very clean.  Interior is great.  All of the electronics work.  I have done maintenance to get it up to speed.  Low miles.  No Rust.  I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car across the country.

The Bad: It does have a crack in the dash above the steering wheel.  It does leak a small amount of oil which I believe is coming from the oil pan seal.  It leaked/burned less than half a quart in 3,000 miles and it has a 7.2 quart oil capacity.  A/C needs to be recharged.

You can Check out the video I made on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/59yLvpuEROc

Ford to rebrand SVT as 999?

Mon, 22 Sep 2014

Ford operates a number of performance divisions around the world. There's SVT in the US, Team RS in Europe and Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) in Australia. But the Blue Oval has been steadily integrating its performance operations into one unit, and here we might have our first indication of what it will be called.
A reader at Jalopnik sent in a survey in which respondents were asked to gauge the name for a new performance brand from a "major automotive manufacturer," and while the identity of that automaker was not disclosed, according to the survey, the automaker is considering the name 999 for its new go-fast unit.
As our compatriots point out, the 999 was Ford's first racecar, a rudimentary chassis with a 19-liter inline-four campaigned by Henry Ford around the turn of the 20th century. (Ford also used the number to designate a Fusion fuel-cell racer a few years back.) That could prove the tie-in Dearborn is looking for in rebranding its performance operations worldwide, replacing the letters SVT, RS and FPV globally under one name.

2015 Ford F-150 spied in the rain

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

Standing as quite a contrast from the spy shots of the 2015 Ford Mustang we saw earlier today, our spies also sent along these pictures of the next-generation F-150 pickup out testing in its (heavily camouflaged) full prototype body. Much of the new truck's design is hidden under the bulky coveralls, but we expect a lot of its new lines to be inspired by the Atlas concept that debuted at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Perhaps the biggest unknown surrounding the new F-150 is what, exactly, its body will be made of. Earlier reports have suggested that lightweight aluminum materials may be used throughout, offering a serious reduction in weight versus previous models. But Ford engineers will need to be careful, though, as they need to keep a tight rein on costs while preserving class-competitive (if not class-leading) towing and payload capacity.
On the powertrain front, the new F-150 will undoubtedly carry on with EcoBoost engines, and we'd bet on a normally aspirated V8 as well. A diesel option hasn't been confirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one some time in the truck's lifecycle. Mum's the word on when the production F-150 will be revealed, but our best guess is that we'll see it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:
