Baltimore, Maryland, United States
Recently imported to the USA, Customs duty paid, titled & registered as a historic vehicle in Maryland. Clear title in my name and can be registered for road use in any state. The Escort is originally a Left hand drive car, built by Ford for the European market and first registered in Macedonia on 12/30/1970. I have original papers from Macedonia and the original owners manual translated into their language also. It was imported to the UK a few years ago, where i purchased it from the 2nd owner in Cheshire. Engine & trans: original 1600cc Kent Crossflow 4 cyl, with 4 branch manifold, K&N filter, newer alternator & battery. Mated to standard 4 speed gearbox with recently replaced clutch & selector arm. Chassis: Front disc brakes, rear factory leaf springs with lowering blocks & drum brakes on the rear. Atlas short type rear axle (bigger & stronger than the typical "English" type axle, can handle major power upgrades). Open differential. 7J x13" Two Gates wheels with 185/60 tires.. Rear tires are brand new. Interior: Black fishnet Recaro RS seats, Original dash with 6 dial instrument cluster, functioning switches, heater, radio cassette, wipers etc.. (Even has the original floor mounted washer pump switch & dipped beam light switch. Original nice black carpet & rear seat bench (black cloth). Body: RUST FREE SHELL, No sunroof, all steel panels, Cibie Oscar spot lamps with covers, red painted backs. Some dings & blemishes and was repainted by a previous owner in the original red, however sanding swirl marks are visible through the paint close up. Having spent most of its life in a warmer, dryer climate than that of the UK, the chassis is rust free, however there are small spots of surface rust beginning around the edge of the hood. (see closeup pics). Note: the British license plate on the hood is just a sticker & can be removed. It has been driven well and is by no means a show car, but a good example of an all time classic. I am happy to answer any questions about the car via email, or over the phone if you email with your details. I can assist with delivery by trailer for an extra fee, or will accommodate your own shipping arrangements. The car is currently stored off the ground in a heated garage during our winter blast here in Maryland! It runs and drives fine and all fluids are topped off with a fresh oil change, so its ready to roll out in Spring! *Just added* Included with sale - a load of spare parts incl: Spare 4 speed Gearbox Brake shoes & cylinders Hood hinge & spring custom made interior center console, (ready to be trimmed & mounted for extra gauges etc..) (See additional Photo) On Feb-02-14 at 15:08:38 PST, seller added the following information: *Video of the car driving with sound!* |

Mustang Cobra Jet prototype garners $200k for charity at Barrett-Jackson
Wed, 02 Oct 2013A few weeks ago we brought you news of a one-off Mustang Cobra Jet that Ford was donating to charity. The car was set to be auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Now that auction has taken place, bringing in an impressive $200,000 for MS research.
That's a lot of zeros for a Mustang, much less one you can't even drive on the street. But the unique pony car, bearing serial number 2014 BJMS CJXX1, packs a 5.0-liter supercharged V8, competition gearbox, wheelie bar, roll cage... all you could want, in short, in a turn-key drag racer. And all that for a good cause.
Junkyard Gem: 1971 Mercury Comet 2-Door Sedan
Sat, Sep 10 2022When Ford introduced the original Maverick for the 1970 model year, Dearborn tradition required that a Mercury-badged version be created. That car ended up being the Comet, built from the 1971 through 1977 model years. Here's one of those first-year Comets in rough but recognizable condition, found in a Denver self-service yard not long ago. The Comet name had spent the 1960s affixed to the flanks of Mercurized Ford Falcons (1960-1965) and Fairlanes (1966-1969). Since the Maverick was the successor of the Falcon — sales of which went into an irrecoverable downward spiral once its sportier Mustang first cousin hit the streets — it made sense to move the Comet name over to the Mercury version. Nearly every American Mercury model ever sold was a U.S.-market Ford model with a different name and some gingerbread slapped on. Notable exceptions to this tradition include the 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar (mechanically based on the Contour but with a unique body) and the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri (an Australian-built mashup of Mazda components borrowed from the Ford Laser). The Comet was by far the cheapest Mercury model available in 1971, though it was considered more prestigious than its Maverick counterpart. The price tag on the '71 Comet two-door sedan started at $2,217 (about $16,505 in 2022 dollars), while the '71 Maverick two-door sedan cost $2,175 ($16,193 today). Meanwhile, AMC would sell you a new Hornet two-door sedan for one dollar less than a Maverick, Chevrolet had the Nova coupe for a dollar more than the Maverick, and Plymouth offered the Valiant Duster for $2,313 ($17,220 now). Toyota had a Maverick competitor as well that year, with the Corona at $2,150 for the sedan and $2,310 for the coupe. Having driven every one of the aforementioned models, I'd take the Duster if I went back in time and had to choose one (as a 1969 Corona owner, I'm not a fan of the 1971 facelift, though the Corona's build quality beats the Duster's). The build sticker on this car tells us that it was built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant (where Transits and F-150s are made today) and sold through the Los Angeles district sales office (there was a DSO in Denver, so it's a near-certainty that this car didn't start out in Colorado). The paint started out as Bright Blue Metallic (it's neither bright nor metallic 51 years down the road) and the interior was done up in Medium Blue Cloth & Vinyl.
2018 Ford Expedition vs other big SUVs: How it compares on paper
Fri, Nov 10 2017With our Alex Kierstein rightly impressed in his first-drive review of the new 2018 Ford Expedition, we decided to dig a little deeper into the numbers, and we came up with the spreadsheet below to highlight how the new 2018 Expedition compares on paper to its main full-size SUV competitors: the 2018 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban (and therefore the 2018 GMC Yukon), 2018 Toyota Sequoia and 2018 Nissan Armada. We also threw in the new, even bigger 2018 Chevrolet Traverse since, as you'll see, its massive dimensions should put it on the radar for anyone who needs loads of passenger and cargo space but doesn't care as much about towing. A few notes about the chart above. First, the 6.2-liter V8 that's included with the new-for-2018 Tahoe RST trim level is the standard engine on the GMC Yukon Denali. You can apply most of the Tahoe's numbers to the entire Yukon and Yukon XL lineup. Second, though we highlighted categories where the Traverse led, we also highlighted the runner-up full-size SUV, since this was ultimately about that segment. Traverse numbers are broadly applicable to the new Buick Enclave.
