I'm selling my 2005 Ford Escape XLT Sport. My wife and I bought it new in October of 2004, so it's a 1 owner(non smoker)vehicle and never been in an accident. It's front wheel drive and has the 3.0L V6 engine. Overall it's in great, clean condition but as with other used vehicles, has some nicks, scratches, and dents. Also, I want to be honest so I will say that the check engine light does come on after awhile(catalytic converter/manifold(bank 2/front)) but I have the part to fix it and it will be included. It has two-tone paint that's white on the top and charcoal on the bottom. The interior is tan leather. It has 175,500 mainly highway miles. I'm from NY and this is the car my wife and I used to drive back and forth once a month. She also drove it 80 miles round trip to work daily. It's been a great car and we've put a lot of work into it in the last 6 months/year but needed a bigger SUV so we're selling this one. It has new front brake lines, pads(ceramic)/rotors and calipers on the front. It has a newer alternator and brand new battery, new Y-pipe, newer serpentine belt, both tensioners, new A/C compressor/drier, and the whole system was vacuumed and recharged(September 2013). This model year Escape had a design flaw where they ran the moonroof drain to the rear passenger side wheel-well. Eventually, they completely rust out and the rear spring blows through the rear quarter panel. After driving with the spring literally coming through the inside of the truck, we had the problem fixed and put new rear springs on each side. This model year is also known for rusting under the doors and rear door/quarter panels, but those spots have been treated with POR15 and repainted. It has almost new(11/32) Continental Contitrac tires, full sized spare with matching alloy wheel, a class III hitch with 2" receiver, 6 disc in-dash cd changer and AUX input/FM modulator, wood grain dash trim, leather, power driver seat, power windows/locks, moonroof, tinted rear glass, and aftermarket Viper auto-start. We also have 4 new Timken wheel bearings and front hubs that we never got around to put on but will include. The oil has been changed every 3,000 miles and it's been well maintained. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Sold As-Is.  Thanks for looking!

Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

    Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver. Ford dinged by OSHA for asbestos at Buffalo plant

    Sat, 20 Jul 2013

Ford has come under fire from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for violations regarding asbestos exposure in a company metal stamping plant in Buffalo, NY. OSHA has cited Ford for eight violations in total, according to an Automotive News report, and faces fines of up to $41,800. 537 workers are employed at the stamping facility.
The violations include a pipefitter at the facility being exposed to asbestos-containing material while working on a steam line, other workers exposed to the material without respiratory protection and work areas that were not designed to limited the number of workers in contact with asbestos. Further, areas in which asbestos was present were not properly restricted, and levels of asbestos in the air were not monitored.
According to an unnamed Ford spokesperson in the AN report, the company feels that the OSHA citation is erroneous saying, "We have fully cooperated with the local OSHA officials and we don't believe the citations are warranted." Ford also maintains that it will work with the authorities to resolve the issue.
