Good old "Blue Suede Shoes" needs help my lousy back won't let me do, even though it's not a serious problem. Water pump spews water after starting, but leaks very little once driving. Needs new water pump installed, not hard on a 6 cylinder like this. Also, starter bendix is going out, will eventually need starter. It turns then goes "wing" a couple times sometimes, then starts. Not the flywheel, always engages that, so has to be the starter bendix gear. Otherwise no real problems, I still drive it locally, but wouldn't take it out on the highway anymore until the pump is replaced. Once that's done, doesn't overheat, good cooling system. Leaks some oil (probably the usual rear main seal), I park it on dirt, loses 1/2 quart between changes, max. Lights, horn, all that works, has good tires, not el-cheapos, 1/3 tread gone, disc brakes have at least 50% pads left. Overdrive transmission is cool, acts like a regular 3 speed manual, then big RPM drop for the freeway in overdrive. Call her a fixer upper I guess, I just can't do the work anymore, or use her for parts, whatever you want.
Story is worth telling, this van worked in San Diego for decades hauling fishermen into Mexico (has ball hitch). The owner ALWAYS took it to Ford, so it was extremely well maintained, Motorcraft battery, all genuine parts Ford wherever I looked. It was his livelihood, so he had them fix whatever the service writer told him it needed. I got it 10K miles ago, replaced the I-beam bushings, cap rotor, plugs and wires, that's all it needed, it's been my motorcycle hauler for 6 years now. Radio needs new antenna, AC doesn't work, I never tried to have it charged. Left side rear window not factory, installed for passengers' view it appears.
Van is in Tombstone Arizona, one hour southeast of Tucson, 50 miles west of New Mexico border, 35 miles north of Mexican border. Come get it, sorry, no delivery available.

Ford only automaker to make 2012 Buzz Rankings, Toyota most improved
Wed, 30 Jan 2013Ford landed itself a spot among the top 10 brands in the 2012 Buzz Rankings. The annual index scores 1,100 brands in 41 categories to determine which nameplates had the most positive buzz throughout the year.
For the third year in a row, Subway took the top honors overall with a score of 40.3, and Ford was the only automaker to break into the top 25 by earning a sixth-place finish overall. The manufacturer earned a score of 32.1 points, which was enough to push it up one spot from the 2011 Buzz Rankings. Honda managed 21.2 points overall, which is still well behind 25th-place Kohl's at 26.5 points. Toyota, Volkswagen and BMW all round out the top five automakers.
The 2012 Buzz Rankings also keep track of which brands improved the most over the past year, and this year, Toyota was the manufacturer with the largest leap forward. The Japanese automaker jumped from just 14 points in 2011 to 20.5 in 2012. Chrysler, Kia, Dodge and Volkswagen all saw sizable steps forward as well. Be sure to head over to the Brand Index site for more information.
Watch how Ken Block spent his weekend in Barbados
Thu, 22 May 2014Regardless of what you think of his skill as a racer, Ken Block is an expert showman. At this point, he has a career of showing up around the world to do vehicular stunts, and he's still able to go racing as well. It's a pretty sweet niche to carve out. Recently, Block was in Barbados to participate in Top Gear Live and the first event of the Global Rallycross Championship season, and Ford Racing produced a short video to show off his exploits.
It looked like a great show. Block got to race Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes-Benz Formula One car and had a very weird crash during a Rallycross race that put his Ford Fiesta on its roof. Top Gear also released an extended look at Block and Hamilton's spectacle with the two of them expertly sliding around. Scroll down to watch the videos and get a taste of Block's tropical racing adventure.
Ford blamed in drug mule lawsuit
Tue, 30 Jul 2013If a college student is caught smuggling drugs across the border, one might think the kid got what was coming to him. But when a Mexican student at the University of Texas in El Paso was caught by Border Patrol agents with duffel bags filled with marijuana in his trunk, the man used a classic excuse: He claimed they weren't his.
While a claim like that is almost unbelievable, Ricardo Magallanes, the student, is now suing Ford for handling its vehicles' key codes negligently enough to allow drug smugglers to break into his Ford Focus and stash the drugs, The Daily Caller reports. The twist here is that four other people who lived in Juarez and worked in El Paso were involved in the same type of scheme - allegedly unwittingly, just like Magallanes - and all the cars were Fords except one model from General Motors. FBI agents also found an employee at a Dallas Ford dealership that had accessed the key codes to all four of the cannabis-stuffed Fords.
While we all may not own Fords, the case still causes us slight paranoia. We'll definitely be checking our trunks before we cross any more international borders.
