E350 Box Truck/sheriffs Command Van/mobile Office Has Roof Ac,awning,light Bars on 2040-cars
New Richmond, Ohio, United States
Vehicle Title:Clear
Make: Ford
Drive Type: automatic
Model: E-Series Van
Mileage: 12,443
Trim: custom
Up for auction we have a 1979 Ford E350 Cutaway that was formally a mobile communications unit for a local sheriff’s department. It was removed from service in 2010 and has only 12,000 miles as stated on the title. The van was maintained by the county maintenance department and runs well, and drives. It has several options like roof AC, roll out awning, internal wiring for a generator and breaker box, heavy duty antenna mount, emergency beacon lights, and work cubicles with chairs. I’m going to describe it in detail, and there are over 40 pics, so please read below.
Engine is a 351W which runs smooth and always starts on the first try. C6 trans feels good, brakes are firm and steering is smooth. The tires are 215/85-16.5 and have great tread, but are dry cracked on the sidewalls. The right inner rear tire will lose air when it sits for a few months, and the right front tire has a small nick in the sidewall but doesn’t lose air. There are stainless simulators on all 4 corners.
I have only driven the truck a few miles since I bought it last year, but there are no apparent mechanical issues that prevent it from being used.
The cab interior is clean with some general wear and cracks in the dash pad. Both spotlights work, and there are controls for the working Federal Jetsonic roof light – alley lights, rotating lights, etc, as well as a rear light bar with yellow and red lights that flash on several pre-set patterns. There's a CB radio which is untested, and a CB antenna behind the seat that mounts on the door or roof edge. Radio is a cheap aftermarket unit that works when it wants to.
Floors, rockers, cab mounts etc show no signs of heavy rust or repairs. Door bottoms have some flaky rust but no holes that I can find. At one point it was repainted from the factory Ford ivory to bright white. The paint looks good but could use a buffing, and decals were painted over. The box needs a good scrubbing but the finish is intact.
Heat works, AC does not (compressor doesn’t turn on). There may be a mouse nest in the heater box, as the setting for the dash vents doesn’t seems plugged up. Defrost and floor vents work, but occasionally there are bits of leaves that blow out occasionally, along with a little musty odor (only when heat is on).
Dash gauges all work, engine runs cool, good oil pressure and charging. Truck has dual tanks - front seems to work fine, rear is marked "gauge doesn't work".
The box body is built from a heavy steel tube frame with wood plank floor, and has insulated sides and roof. The center section has a false floor for running communications wires. Up front is an access panel for generator installation (generator and breaker panel were removed by the county before I bought it and a portion of the floor was left open). There is romex throughout the truck that runs to a number of 120v outlets at each of the work stations. The roof AC is untested but appears almost new. I believe it runs off the 120v setup. There’s a sliding divider that separates the cab and box.
The interior is dry, and aside from few stains in the ceiling tiles around the roof vent, there’s no signs of leaks or mildew. Swivel seats are like new. Rear door has 2 key locks, and keys are included.
On the outside, there’s a pair of hinge mounts, so its possible to probably remove the man-door and replace it with a pair of barn doors if you wanted to make into a straight truck. The rear body has fold out steps (slightly bent) and a steel frame to mount a large antenna.
As an added bonus, there’s a working awning on the driver’s side that folds out from the body and has removable legs that can be staked into the ground. The pull-down rod for the awning is included. The unit isn’t very old – maybe 10 years at most.
Overall this is a solid old truck with a variety of uses. Turn it into a mobile office, camper, hunting rig, or return it to use as a radio rig.
Clear Ohio title, and I’ll include a copy of the original title that’s pictured below.
Truck is located in New Richmond, Ohio, just east of Cincinnati, and is available for inspection by appointment. Reserve is reasonable and I generally prefer to let auctions run their course.
I can be reached at 513-314-7620 with questions, or feel free to email me via Ebay.

Ford rolls out diesel Focus ST at Goodwood [w/poll]
Sun, 29 Jun 2014If you're in the market for a hot hatch, there are some excellent choices at your disposal - especially if you live in Europe. But if you want a diesel, well, your choices become rather more limited. Volkswagen tends to that niche market with the Golf GTD (essentially an oil-burning version of the GTI available Stateside), but that's about the extent of it. The pleas of those looking for more diesel-burning hot hatch choices haven't fallen on deaf ears at Ford, with the Blue Oval not only rolling out a facelifted gas-powered Focus ST at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, but also a new diesel version as well.
The diesel Focus ST (which we hope and pray isn't marketed as the STD) packs a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four producing 182 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to propel the oil-burning hot hatch to 62 in 8.1 seconds en route to a top speed of 135 miles per hour. With less power and only slightly more torque, that makes the diesel Focus ST considerably slower than the gasoline one, which packs 252 hp and 270 lb-ft, runs to 62 in 6.5 seconds and tops out at 154 mph, but (in a testament to how far particulate filters have come) the diesel model cuts carbon emissions by nearly a third compared to the petrol version and returns about 50-percent better fuel economy, which makes that much more of a difference in markets where diesel is already priced better than gasoline at the pump.
For buyers who wouldn't consider anything other than a diesel, it also represents 23-percent more power than the previous top-level diesel Focus. The VW Golf GTD, for reference, offers up 181 hp (just 1 horse less), 280 lb-ft (15 fewer torques) but is somehow estimated to reach 60 in a considerably fleeter 7.4 seconds.
European car sales up 8% in February
Sat, 22 Mar 2014Three weeks ago an analyst increased projections for European car sales this year, expecting them to climb three percent compared to last year instead of 2.7 percent. That number is a postive sign after years of hard times but it turns out February was especially good, overall European sales climbing eight percent on a wave of southern European recovery and discounts - and this comes after five months of gains including January's 7.2-percent jump over the year before.
The only country of Europe's five largest markets to post a decline was France, just as it did in January, Germany, the UK and Italy posting solid double-digit numbers, Spain rocking the charts with an 18-percent increase because of a government program to encourage trade-ins.
The only brand to miss the wave was Volkswagen, dropping 0.8 percent as it watched the double-digit growth at sister brands Audi, Seat and Skoda lift the Volkswagen Group sales up by seven-percent. Peugeot overcame flat sales at Citroën to improve the group by 3.5 percent, BMW and the Mercedes-Benz/Smart combo rose by four percent, the Fiat group jumped 5.8 percent, Ford was up 11 percent, the Renault Group 11.5 percent, General Motors 12 percent and the Toyota clan by 14 percent.
Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell revisit bitter F1 rivalry in... Ford Fusion campaign?
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Formula One World Champions Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell haven't been on good terms since the 1986 season, when Piquet joined Mansell at the Williams team and Piquet spent the year privately fuming about not being granted the status of number one driver. Things only got worse from there - even though Piquet won the title the following year with Williams, still partnered with Mansell, the fuming was a lot less private.
They're back together after a 25-year silence, in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil to drive the new Ford Fusion. Called "Fusion Grand Prix," both men get the new Ford sedan, prepped to their liking - but still street legal, we assume - for a race to decide... well, who is faster behind the wheel of a Fusion.
There will be four episodes, with the first two having already aired. The third episode comes on January 29 and the race happens February 5. You'll find two video episodes and a press release below, but note - because it's a campaign for Ford Brazil, Piquet's dialogue in the vids isn't translated, so hit the Closed Captioning button to hear his side of the smack talking.
