(from Quigley four by four dot com)

"There's more to it than meets the eye," says Michael Quigley, the second generation to run the family business. "We are not simply a van converter. We are a worldwide, original equipment manufacturer who spends considerable effort on engineering to insure 4-wheel drive performance, parts serviceability and industry regulation compliance."

Since 1975 Quigley has engineered, developed and currently sells two different converted vehicles: one is the "Quadra- Version" based on the Ford Econoline Van and Club Wagon family using a coil spring front suspension and the other is the "Trailmaker" based on the Chevrolet and GMC full-sized vans using the Torsion Bar (IFS) Independent Front Suspension.

Designed to be easily serviced by most Ford and Chevrolet/GMC dealers, the genius behind Quigley is its use of easily obtainable, original equipment suspension and drive train components from major automotive manufacturers.

That is why you buy a Quigley!

Engineering Safety

Many people think that a 4x4 retrofitter goes to a salvage yard for parts, returns to an alley garage and slaps a four-wheel drive system under a van. Our approach is 180 degrees different than this perception.

Quigley's process involves hundreds of hours of engineering and development time and reflects the same concern for safety and quality. A classic example of this process in action was our work on the Ford van's fuel tank. We modify the tank to make sure there is enough clearance for the added components, and then we also tested the tank to insure its integrity.

The most important test was the vehicle crash test. This was to insure structural integrity. But before we could do the actual crash test, we had to determine a 'worst case crash scenario' and develop a computer model for the Ford-based Quigley 4-wheel drive systems. We then hired a NHTSA approved engineering firm to carry out the prescribed test and compare the results against the computer model in order to validate the program. Once confirmed, the same computer model was then used to certify the entire model line.

It is this type of attention to detail that makes the Quigley a unique product. Unique in that it is the only Four Wheel Drive Van and Cutaway that is part of the Ford SVE Ship Thru Program. While there are a number of aftermarket conversion companies that have what is called "Drop Ship", their product is not able to be re-entered in the Ford delivery system. According to Ford, "Drop-Ship is available to nearly any firm that has sufficient credit and no engineering review is required for this program. Quigley is the only firm in the United States that has earned Ford Ship-Thru process approval for four-wheel drive conversions on E-Series models and warrants all unique Quigley components."

Top Gear's latest trailer shows off a golden Bugatti Chiron

Thu, Feb 23 2017

Top Gear is returning on March 5, and after a lackluster first series with the new hosts, the new group seems determined not to hit a sophomore slump. Chris Evans is gone, and the latest teaser trailer shows the new trio of Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid strapped into some pretty fantastic cars, including the Bugatti Chiron and the Ford GT. All of the typical Top Gear segments appear to be present, though the quick cuts don't give us many details. The trailer shows a copious amount of powerslides from an assortment of cars, and even Chris Harris racing around Daytona. Aside from the Bugatti and Ford, cars from Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin, and Alfa Romeo are all present. Co-hosts Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz don't appear at all, so it seems their roles may be downplayed to focus on three guys, as was the case pre-reboot. We have some hope for this re-relaunched show and will be keeping an eye out for more details in the lead-up to the series premiere. From Expedition to Navigator: our predictions for Lincoln's SUV

Tue, Feb 7 2017

In the midst of all the buzz surrounding the new aluminum Ford Expedition and Expedition Max, we remembered the other large SUV the Ford Motor Company showed last year, the Lincoln Navigator concept. And since the Navigator has historically been built on the Expedition platform, we figured there's no better time to focus some of our predictions for the big Lincoln. First off, let's take a look at design. Having seen the new Expedition, we're fairly confident that the Navigator will look almost exactly like its concept. The strong similarities between two mean the Expedition serves as a preview of what a production Navigator will look like. For example, both vehicles' greenhouses we can see that the shape of the C-pillars are nearly identical. The only difference is that the Expedition's are painted body color, while the Navigator's are painted black. Additionally, the character line running along the top of the doors on both vehicles is roughly the same height. The same goes for the more subtle crease near the bottom of the doors. We also see no reason why Lincoln wouldn't use the full width taillights, fender vent, and grille treatment it used on the concept. Those are all easy design changes to create differentiation, and they're all right inline with the cues set by the Continental. View 15 Photos For powertrain, we're pretty certain the 400-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 previewed on the concept is a certainty now. The Expedition and Expedition Max will be offered with a 3.5-liter EcoBoost as well, so we know it will fit. We expect the Expedition's engine will produce 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque as it does in the F-150. That's less power than the Navigator concept, but it would be reasonable to make the production Navigator a bit more powerful than its lowly Ford brethren to help justify the increased price tag. Towing capacity will probably be about the same between the Ford and Lincoln, which should be something over 9,000 pounds. The Navigator will probably use the same two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive drivetrains, too. Inside is where the Expedition and Navigator will likely differ the most, particularly in seating. The Expedition offers seating for up to eight with an available second-row bench seat, and the Navigator concept had captain's chairs for every row. We're expecting the Navigator will only offer second-row captain's chairs since the cramped third row would be a waste of nice buckets.
