The La Grange, Illinois (Cook County) Police Department is offering the following vehicle for sale by auction:

2009 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Sedan 4-Door 4.6L with a mileage of 103,860 miles.

This vehicle is surplus property of the Village Of La Grange and MUST be sold according to Illinois law; it MUST be sold in an auction-type setting such as eBay.  There is NO Buy-It-Now option.  We will NOT accept any trades for this vehicle.  The vehicle is being sold AS IS and with NO existing warranty; neither express nor implied.  All sales are FINAL, NO returns will be accepted, and NO price adjustments will be given.  The vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder after the starting price has been satisfied.  There is NO reserve on this vehicle-the starting price is bottom line what we will accept for this vehicle-DO NOT MAKE AN OFFER!  If the vehicle does not sell, it will either be relisted or go to a public auction.

Again, the vehicle has 103,860 original miles.  The vehicle has no major damage or rust-just normal wear-n-tear scratches, dings, dents-again, nothing major.  The vehicle has power locks, windows, mirrors, trunk release, power driver's seat lumbar/recline, power cut-off switch (push switch and remove ignition key and car will stay on, however, car cannot be placed in drive and stolen until key is in ignition again), rear defrost, dome light, interior lights, and spotlight ALL IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.  The vehicle also has manual tilt steering wheel, power adjustable gas pedal, AM/FM stereo, and air conditioning is in good working order.  The vehicle is equipped with cruise control, however, we did not use it often and don't know if it still works (probably works).  The vehicle has driver's-side and passenger-side air bags.  The vehicle's exterior lights, lamps, signals, wipers, defrost, spotlight, etc. are all in working order.  There are no illuminated warning signs on in the dashboard indicating any malfunctions with the vehicle.  Lastly, the vehicle's tires are in good condition.

The vehicle shows normal wear-n-tear regarding scratches, dings, dents, however, again, there are NO major imperfections in the vehicle's body.  The exterior of the vehicles roof does have three holes that were drilled for a police light bar that was removed that are currently covered with gray tape.  The holes will need to be plugged by the winning bidder (available from an auto parts store).  The police decals have all been professionally removed from the exterior, however, glue is slightly visible.  A good detailing of the vehicle should eliminate the glue marks from the decals.  The interior roof liner has a small hole between the driver and passenger seats that once housed a police camera-now removed.  There is one tiny hole in the interior roof liner behind the dome light, barely visible.  The rear vinyl seat is brand new-never used.  When the vehicle was used as a police car, we had plastic seats in the rear and stored the vinyl seats-now placed back in the car.  The front cloth seats are in good condition but will need to be cleaned.  The vinyl flooring in the vehicle is in good condition, but will also need to be cleaned.  The following reflects the service record on the vehicle for "more major items:"

Cooling Fan and Controller, Motor, and Fan Assembly replaced 100709, Water Pump Assembly replaced 012910, Motor and Fan Assembly and Relay replaced 121010, Brakes, Alignment, Water Pump, Rib Belt, and Coolant Flush completed 051311, Fuel Tank Sender Assembly, Horn Assembly, Instrument Cluster, Air Bag Jewels/Warning Lamp replaced 060111, Manifold Assembly Intake, Thermostat, and Ignition Wire replaced 021712, New Tires, Actuator, Blend Door, and Motor Assembly all replaced 060712, Front/Rear Braked replaced 100112, Transmission Assembly rebuilt 101112, Passenger-Side Air Bag Indicator, Both Sway Bar Links, and Alignment replace/completed 101612, Driver's Seat rebuilt 112112, Rear Axle BRG Assembly Wheel Bearing-Rear, Rear Wheel Seal and Differential Service completed 120712, Water Pump Assembly, T-Stat & O Ring and Coolant Flush replaced/completed 041213, A/C Accumulator & Condenser, New Tires, Alignment, and A/C Charge completed 080813, Upper Control Arms, Lower Ball Joints, Front Sway Bar Bushings & Links, A/C High Pressure Hose & Tube Assembly and A/C Charge, Steering Wheel Shaft, Alignment, Oil Filter Adaptor Gasket, Upper/Lower Rear Control Arms, Radiator Hoses, and Tune Up all completed 092613, Rear Axle A Shaft Assembly, Bearing Assembly & Seals completed 103113.

Car Stories: Owning the SHO station wagon that could've been

Fri, Oct 30 2015

A little over a year ago, I bought what could be the most interesting car I will ever own. It was a 1987 Mercury Sable LS station wagon. Don't worry – there's much more to this story. I've always had a soft spot for wagons, and I still remember just how revolutionary the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable were back in the mid-1980s. As a teenager, I fell especially hard for the 220-horsepower 1989 Ford Taurus SHO – so much so that I'd go on to own a dozen over the next 20 years. And like many other quirky enthusiasts, I always wondered what a SHO station wagon would be like. That changed last year when I bought the aforementioned Sable LS wagon, festooned with the high-revving DOHC 3.0-liter V6 engine and five-speed manual transmission from a 1989 Taurus SHO. In addition, the wagon had SHO front seats, a SHO center console, and the 140-mph instrument cluster with mileage that matched the engine. When I bought it, that number was just under 60,000 – barely broken in for the overachieving Yamaha-sourced mill. The engine and transmission weren't the only upgrades. It wore dual-piston PBR brakes with the choice Eibach/Tokico suspension combo in front. The rear featured SHO disc brakes with MOOG cargo coils and Tokico shocks, resulting in a wagon that handled ridiculously well while still retaining a decent level of comfort and five-door functionality. I could attack the local switchbacks while rowing gears to a 7,000-rpm soundtrack just as easily as loading up on lumber at the hardware store. Over time I added a front tower brace to stiffen things a bit as well as a bigger, 73-mm mass airflow sensor for better breathing, and I sourced some inexpensive 2004 Taurus 16-inch five-spoke wheels, refinished in gunmetal to match the two-tone white/gunmetal finish on the car. That, along with some minor paint and body work, had me winning trophies at every car show in town. And yet, what I loved most about the car wasn't its looks or performance, but rather its history. And here's where things also get a little philosophical, because I absolutely, positively love old used cars. Don't get me wrong – new cars are great. Designers can sculpt a timeless automotive shape, and engineers can construct systems and subsystems to create an exquisite chassis with superb handling and plenty of horsepower. But it's the age and mileage that turn machines into something more than the sum of their parts.

Ford recalls 2017 Lincoln Continental for headlight problem

Tue, Oct 11 2016

Ford Motor Co. is already recalling the 2017 Lincoln Continental for a headlight problem, the automaker announced Tuesday. The HID headlights may have been assembled with LED lens that don't have the correct lens optics to meet federal visibility requirements for turn signals. Ford says it is unaware of any accidents related to the issue. The company will replace the headlamp assemblies, if needed. The safety compliance recall covers 1,876 Continentals built from June 14 to Sept. 23 at Ford's Flat Rock factory south of Detroit. Most of the cars are in the United States; 49 are in Canada, and one is in a federalized territory. Only about 300 cars are in consumers' hands, a spokesperson said. Customers can use a Lincoln service program where dealers will pick up their Continental, fix it for free, and return it, the spokesperson said. Lincoln has high hopes for the Continental. The flagship sedan uses one of Lincoln's most iconic names and features a luxurious interior, available 400-horsepower V6 engine, and safety features like adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. Lincoln recently announced an elaborate marketing campaign shot by renown photographer Annie Leibovitz to generate interest in the Continental. In a separate recall, Ford also said Tuesday that 60 Edges from the 2015-16 model year are being recalled to update their antilock braking system module.
