The La Grange, Illinois (Cook County) Police Department is offering the following vehicle for sale by auction:

2009 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Sedan 4-Door 4.6L with a mileage of 102,483 miles.

This vehicle is surplus property of the Village Of La Grange and MUST be sold according to Illinois law; it MUST be sold in an auction-type setting such as eBay.  There is NO Buy-It-Now option.  We will NOT accept any trades for this vehicle.  The vehicle is being sold AS IS and with NO existing warranty, neither express nor implied.  ALL sales are FINAL, NO returns will be accepted, and NO price adjustments will be given.  The vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder after the starting price has been satisfied.  There is NO reserve on this vehicle-the starting price is bottom line what we will accept for this vehicle-DO NOT MAKE AN OFFER!  If the vehicle does not sell, it will either be relisted or sent to a public auction.

Again, the vehicle has 102,483 original miles.  There is no major damage or rust to the body of the vehicle-just normal wear-n-tear scratches, dings, and dents.  The vehicle has power locks, windows, mirrors, trunk release, power driver's seat lumbar/recline, power cut-off switch (allows you to push the button and take the ignition key out to keep the car running, however, it cannot be placed in drive and stolen), rear defrost, dome light, interior lights, and spotlight ALL IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.  The vehicle also has a manual tilt steering wheel, power adjustable gas pedal, AM/FM Stereo, and air conditioning that is in good working order.  The vehicle is equipped with cruise control, however, we did not use it often and don't know if it still functions (probably works).  The vehicle has driver's-side and passenger-side air bags.  The vehicle's exterior lights, lamps, signals, wipers, defrost, spotlight, etc. are all in good working order.  There are no illuminated lights on in the dash indicating any problems with the vehicle.  The tires are in good condition.  Lastly, all routine and major maintenance was completed by either our village certified mechanic, dealership, or outsourced to other professional shops.

The vehicle shows normal signs of wear-n-tear including scratches, dings, and dents, however, again, there are no major imperfections in the vehicle's body.  The exterior of the vehicle's roof has three small holes that were drilled for a police light bar that was removed.  The holes have since been plugged after the removal of the light bar.  The police decals on the exterior have all been removed, however, some glue is slightly visible.  A good detailing of the vehicle should eliminate the glue marks.  The interior roof liner has a couple of small holes between the front driver's seat and the front passenger seat that once house a police camera (has been removed).  There is also a very small hole in the interior roof liner behind the dome light (barely visible).  The rear vinyl seat is brand new.  When the vehicle was a police vehicle, we had a plastic molded seat in the rear that has since been removed.  The original seat has been placed back in the vehicle.  The front cloth seats are in fair to good condition, but will need to be cleaned.  The vinyl flooring in the vehicle appears to be in good condition.  The vehicle has a slight smell of burning oil, however, there are no visible signs by us (untrained mechanics).  The following reflects the service record on the vehicle for more major repairs/services:

Throttle Body and Motor Assembly replaced 021110, A/C Clutch Connector and AEA Wire Assembly replaced 031710, ETB, Throttle Body and Motor Assembly replaced 042610, Horn Assembly and Wheel Alignment completed 111610, A/C Condenser replaced 010311, Temp Blend Door Motor and Motor Assembly replaced 031711, Brakes, Alignment, Both Rear Shocks replaced 042911, AM/FM Stereo replaced 060111, Engine Cool Fan, Motor Assembly and AC Relay replaced 032212, Rear Axle Shaft Assembly, AA Seal Assembly, AA Bearing Assembly replaced 091312, Right Rear Speed Sensor and Sensor Assembly replaced 100112, A/C Condenser replaced 111212, Driver's Seat Rebuilt 113012, Water Pump Assembly and AB Filter Assembly replaced 010713, Lower Ball Joints, Drive Belt, Transmission Flush, Alignment, Instrument Cluster, Fuel Injector Flush, Reseal Oil Filter Adaptor all completed/replaced 030513, ABS Sensor Assembly, Rear Shaft Assembly, Rear Differential Service all completed 032213, AA Coil Assembly, Ignition & Element Assembly, Coil, Plug, Throttle Body, and Left Bank O2 Sensor replaced 042313, Blower Motor replaced and A/C Recharge completed 081013, Cooling Fan Module and Motor Assembly replaced 093013, Wiper Motor Assembly replaced 103113, A Shaft Assembly-Rear Axle, Seal, Bearing Assembly replaced 110713, Rebuilt Transmission 112513, Brakes, Alignment, Intake Manifold, Thermostat, Seals, Gaskets, and Steering Wheel Shaft Assembly replaced/completed 020514.

Ford trademarking 'Mach 1,' possibly for Mustang

Thu, 24 Oct 2013

A legendary name might be accompanying the redesigned, 2015 Mustang when it finally makes its world debut - Mach 1. Stumbled upon by the team at Ford Authority, the Mach 1 title was found in a trademark filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office, and would revive a name last used on the fourth-generation, 2003 Mustang.
While the the 2003 vintage was well and good, the Mach 1 is really remembered for a three-year run from 1969 to 1971 - it's best to just forget the emissions-choked 1972 to 1978 Mach 1s - when power output ranged from a modest 250 horsepower with the two-barrel, 351-cubic-inch Windsor V8 to "375 hp" (actual output was rumored to be well north of 400 horsepower) with the righteous, 429-cubic-inch Super Cobra Jet V8.
What does the title hold for the sixth-generation Mustang? It's tough to say. The fanatics at Ford Authority seem to think Mach 1 could take the place of the Shelby GT500 at the top of the Mustang hierarchy, which sounds like a valid argument. At the same time, we could see the SVT Cobra moniker returning for the flagship model, and the Mach 1 doing battle with the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 (unless the Boss 302 were to return). Confounding things is the historical precedent - the Mach 1 was responsible for the death of the Mustang GT in 1969, so it might make sense as a volume performance model.

2015 Ford Mustang GT road test ride-along

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

You've no doubt already pored over our first drive of the 2015 Ford Mustang, where author Jonathon Ramsey proclaimed that "this new car shames the old, redefines the model and gallops far ahead of anything else in the segment." And following Ramsey's first stint behind the wheel of Ford's new coupe, we sent him back out with another 'Stang to capture some of these same impressions over a backdrop of the car moving quickly along gorgeous California canyon roads.
But this also gave our author and editors time to read through the hundreds of comments left on that original Mustang review. You readers are indeed a vocal bunch, and one particular comment about how the automotive media is so willing to bash an outgoing car as soon as the new one arrives really caught our attention. In this video, Ramsey stands by his written text, saying the new Mustang is "massively better than the one it replaces," and in doing so, addresses your comments while providing more insight into just how good the Ford truly is.
We won't spoil the rest for you. Check out the feature video above, and as always, leave us your thoughts in the Comments section below.

Ford Q1 profits dragged down by warranty costs

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

General Motors isn't the only Detroit automaker posting falling profits in the first quarter. Ford just released its Q1 2014 financial data, and it reported a net income of $989 million, down $622 million from Q1 2013. The drop is partially blamed on higher warranty and recall expenses than the company had anticipated.
Financially, Ford suffered a rough quarter almost across the board. Its pre-tax profit of $1.4 billion was also down $765 million from a year ago. Things were even worse in the North American market where operating profit fell significantly to $1.5 billion, down from $2.392 billion in Q1 2013. However, its global revenue ticked up slightly to $35.9 billion, from $35.6 billion in this period in 2013.
Ford admitted that it spent about $900 million on expenses that it hadn't planned for during this quarter. According to Reuters, the company paid about $400 million in additional warranty and recall costs in North America. The automaker didn't explain why the costs were so much higher than expected. However, in the last three months, Ford has had several recalls, including on the 2001-2004 Escape for rust, Explorer for its steering, Edge for its fuel line and others.
