This is a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor which we bought from a local municipal police department who purchased the car new. This car is in excellent mechanical condition and comes with written service records from the police department from the day they took delivery of the car, they have even kept the original Ford window sticker. The car now has 97559 on its certified odometer/speedometer. The car is dark gray on the exterior and a lighter gray on the inside. This car is a true Police Interceptor and has the Ford P71 package which includes the 200 amp alternator, limited slip rear differential, dual exhaust, a heavy duty suspension and frame and wheels, transmission and oil cooler and sway bars.

The car was serviced and inspected by our in-house service department to ensure everything on the car works. That includes all the power windows, power door locks, rear window defrost, air conditioning and heat and even the drivers side exterior spotlight. We have inspected it and the car has new Pennsylvania emissions and safety stickers good until 09/2014.  The front tires are at 80% and the rear are about 70%, both are Goodyear Eagle's. Both the front and rear brakes are near new and the serpentine belt was replaced. The interior of the car is in excellent condition not normally found on a used CVPI, the rear seats are like brand new and the front seats are in excellent condition and do not even have the normal tears that occur from officers wearing gun belts. The floor is black rubber and is like new.  This car has a light gray colored interior which doesn't hide much so the condition speaks for itself, this is a 2001.

The exterior of the car is a darker gray color, it has minor scratches and some small dings from normal use but is in very good overall condition. The car's deck lid was never drilled and the roof was plugged correctly and since the car is dark and the plugs are black they are not very noticeable. Even the rear bumper cover is not torn from wear as they do many times. The car runs and drives 100%, the engine is responsive and smooth and the transmission is smooth and shifts perfectly as it should.

These cars were designed to run over 200,000 miles, this car is in excellent overall condition and has tons of life left in it. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to buy a true Police Interceptor with a documented service history at a good price. These cars are getting harder to find in good condition with low miles on them, this car averaged only a bit over 8100 miles per year which is low for any car, let alone a police car which was well maintained. Jay Leno sees how the other half lives with CHP cop cars new and old

Mon, 01 Jul 2013

Comedian Jay Leno is changing gears from driving fast cars to checking out some of the police cruisers that regularly chase down and dish out punishment to those fast cars. In this episode of Jay Leno's Garage, we get the lowdown on the modifications made to the Ford Explorer for the Interceptor package (which looks pretty tough in its California Highway Patrol livery).
The new Ford is cool, but cooler still are the pack of classic CHP cars that Jay has along for the episode. A 1982 Mustang, 1966 Dodge Polara, 1970 Mercury Monterey and 2000 Crown Victoria are all in the shop. Better still, Jay lays out an argument for ones of the classic cruisers as the best cop car of all time. Get your guesses in now, and then scroll down to watch and learn.

Ford faces class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles without brake override systems

Fri, 29 Mar 2013

A total of 20 Ford customers are suing the automaker in a class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles "vulnerable to unintended acceleration." According to Reuters, the suit names 30 models built between 2002 and 2010 with electronic throttle control systems but without a brake override system. Those include the 2004-2012 F-Series pickups and the 2005-2009 Lincoln Town Car. Adam Levitt, a partner with the law firm of Grant & Eisenhofer says the plaintiffs in the case want "to be compensated for their economic losses by having overpaid for cars that contained defects." Levitt contends that the plaintiffs would not have bought their vehicles or paid less for them had they known there was no brake override system in place.
Ford began installing brake override systems in its vehicles beginning in 2010. In response to the lawsuit, Ford has pointed to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that indicated that unintended acceleration is mostly caused by driver error, saying in a statement that, "NHTSA's work is far more scientific and trustworthy than work done by personal injury lawyers and their paid experts."
Belville et al v. Ford Motor Co. will be heard in US District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia.

Lincoln MKC recalled because start button located too close to touchscreen [UPDATE]

Wed, Dec 31 2014

UPDATE: Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker responded to our questions and let us know that the fix for the push-button start on the 2015 MKC has the switch moved to the top of the of the column of gear shift buttons instead of the bottom. Owners should be notified about both campaigns "toward the end of February." After massive campaigns from General Motors and to fix Takata airbag inflators, 2014 will undoubtedly go down as The Year Of The Recall. And with little time to spare, Ford is getting in just under the wire to adding two more to its yearly total. The larger of the campaigns is actually one of the most bizarre campaigns we've heard of all year. Lincoln is recalling 13,574 units of its 2015 MKC compact crossover in North America to move the location of the push-button ignition switch on the dashboard. According to the automaker's announcement: "Due to the switch's close proximity to other controls, occupants are inadvertently shutting off the engine while driving." The button is located near the bottom of the touchscreen, which can apparently make it possible to hit by mistake. Back when Autoblog first drove the new MKC in June, we came away very impressed, but noted: "... we're still not completely sold on the aforementioned pushbutton transmission selector ... it still seems somewhat gimmicky and it can't be operated by feel alone, as you might when shifting a traditional console-mounted lever from Park to Drive." According to Lincoln, there have been no reported accidents or injuries stemming from this button misapplication. Of the affected vehicles, there are 11,144 in the US, 2,033 in Canada and 397 in Mexico. To fix the problem, dealers are moving the button to a different location and reprogramming the powertrain control module. According to Automotive News, models built since September already have a different layout. The change was reportedly done to match the rest of the Lincoln lineup. The second recall covers 12,205 units of the 2014 Ford Escape (2015 model year pictured below) and 2015 Lincoln MKC in North America because of a problem with nickel plating on the fuel pump. The issue can cause the pump to seize, which can cause the crossovers not to start or stall while driving. The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this fault. Dealers are replacing the fuel deliver module to fix the situation. Of the affected vehicles, there are 9,038 in the US, 3,074 in Canada and 93 in Mexico.
