This is a 1992 Ford bronco in fairly nice overall condition. It has 99,019 original miles (that's an average of less than 5,000 miles driven per year over its 22 year life). This is the first year for the last generation (body style) of broncos and they are getting harder to find in reasonable condition. If you have been searching for one of these and have already looked at a few in person then I think you will recognize and agree that this one is in better shape than many that you are likely to find. It is by no means perfect but it compares well to most. This Bronco also has possibly the most important thing when buying a used vehicle.. plenty of life left in it. With less than 100,000 miles, it has had less miles put on it than most vehicles 10 years newer. It has also had a lot of new parts, time, and money spent on it recently and it runs and drives well.

I paid to have a history report for this bronco so that I would know the same history as any bidders who checked into it and not be embarrassed by any surprises. I believed this bronco to have a clean history with no major accidents and the history report confirms it. It has spent all its life in rust free areas (mostly Arizona and the west coast) and only had one minor accident reported with damage to the front end 13 years ago. The damage was categorized as minor to moderate and the report has a damage ranking system with this damage being categorized on the lowest of the scale. This damage was 2-3 steps below (better than) “disabled” and and 1-2 steps below (better than) the category of “functional”. Both categories of “minor” and “moderate” include damage to the front bumper and based on what I see, I believe that to be the extent of the damage. I also believe that the front bumper is probably the original one as the chrome shines up better than most aftermarket bumpers I have seen. The bumper does have some scuffing in the front center but nothing that I would even consider a dent. The main reason why I believe the accident caused virtually no damage is because these Broncos were constructed with accordion shaped extensions to the frame where the bumper attaches that were designed as “crumple zones” to absorb frontal impact. They appear to be perfect on this truck (I have pictures) with no damage or evidence of new ones being welded on and the bumper sits straight on the truck. I also believe this bronco to be virtually rust free. The only real rust I have noticed is on the inside of what would be the “door jamb” of the tailgate area at the bottom of the tailgate. It's a small area and you cant see it without looking for it. Its at the bottom where the outer tailgate skin folds under and wraps around the inside of the tailgate. It is not rusted through or even crusty or bubbled, just surface rust. I cleaned it up with a wire brush and have a picture. The underneath of this truck is immaculate and the factory paint and metal treatments are clean and easy to see. That should also give some indication as to whether or not is has any rust problems. The aftermarket wheel flares were on the truck when I got it and I have not taken them off but I definitely don't think they are hiding any rust on the wheel lips. I have detailed and painted the axles, frame rails, steering components, and wheel wells with satin black but I did think to take a picture of the inside of a couple of the wheel well lips from inside the wheel well before I painted just to show they were rust free.

The body and paint aren't perfect but still compare fairly well to most 22 year old trucks (especially 4x4's). The pictures tell more than I can describe here so please look closely at them and judge for yourself. Because I am somewhat picky though, I will tell you that it does have plenty of small dings and some light scratches but because it is white it does a great job at hiding the imperfections. The only thing larger than a “ding” that catches your eye is towards the top of the passenger side front fender above the wheel (there is a picture of the dent up close). I can tell that the bronco has been repainted once and that it was done several years ago (its not fresh new paint). Because it came white from the factory there is no problem with stone chips revealing a second color underneath as you would have with a color change. I think it was probably a budget paint job based mostly on the fact that it had some white overspray that bugged me on areas like the black trim around the windows and that the build sticker from the drivers door jamb is gone where I assume they probably got paint on it and then foolishly removed it. I have carefully removed 99% of any overspray and the VIN plate that is riveted to the front of the dash is still intact and easy to see through the windshield. I'm probably being overly critical of the paint and body, especially considering i'm trying to sell it. But as I said, I want you to know what you are getting and be happy when you get it. The best way to sum up how it looks it this.... I am truly surprised at how many compliments and thumbs up the bronco gets when I drive it. Other people don't notice the imperfections, they just seem to really like it. The imperfections are things that mostly only a picky owner (like me) would notice when they are up close and really looking for flaws. Again, look at the pictures and judge for yourself. If you happen to notice that the bronco is a “custom” (base model) but has bronco “LX” emblems on the fenders, that is because one of the emblems needed replacing and I could not find any that said “custom” but was able to find a clean pair that said “LX” so I replaced both to match.

As far as mechanics go, I believe the engine to be stock and untouched internally just as it came from the factory. It has an aftermarket throttle body spacer and a K&N air filter. The engine is still strong and smooth, doesn't smoke or use oil and the oil stays clean. It can sit in my garage for a week without driving and not leak a drop of oil. It does usually leak a small drop of oil on the ground after driving though. I believe it to be the rear main seal but its possible it's just the back of the oil pan. Its a minor leak and you can see from the pictures that the undercarriage, underside of the engine, and under the hood are very clean. The engine bay has been wiped down and cleaned with some simple green and a wet rag but hasn't been overly detailed. I wanted people to be able to see that the engine bay looks as clean as it should for the low mileage it has without trying to “over sell” it with a bunch of shiny greasy spray that will make dirt stick to it and look worse after you buy. The engine has brand new spark plugs and ignition rotor, and in January 2014 it had the upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat, and coolant replaced. It also has had the idle air control solenoid replaced and has a brand new throttle position sensor. It has a high capacity battery and can sit for a week without driving and then start right up with no problems. I haven't had the truck for very long and I have probably only put around 500 miles on it but I have driven it enough to feel fairly confident that it is mechanically sound and dependable. Just last week I drove it for about an hour at highway speeds and then sat with it idling for about 20 minutes. The truck ran and drove great the whole time and stayed well below the half way point on the temperature gauge while it was idling. I don't think you will have to worry about something breaking or having to spend any major money on this truck any time in the near future. Besides the fact that this truck has less than 100,000 miles on it, a lot of the high dollar trouble areas that can wear out or fail have already been addressed and replaced so you probably wont have to worry about them. The Rear end (differential) was replaced in 2009 at 73,000 miles and front u joint replaced (I have the receipt from previous owner). The previous owner thought that it had a limited slip/posi-trac rear end but I tend to think its actually an open type differential. It has a 3.55 gear ratio. I was told by the previous owner that the transmission had been rebuilt too. He could not find the receipt but I tend to believe him that it was done. I can see that the transmission is cleaner than the transfer case where they mate together and it looks like a non OEM type gasket material between the two where they mate. This seems to indicate that the transmission has been removed and reinstalled and with this low of miles, there's really no reason why it would have been out unless it was to be rebuilt. The transmission fluid is bright red and very clean. The fuel pump and filter were replaced in January 2013 (have receipt). The rear u joint was replaced in 2012 (have receipt). The front end ball joints and axle seals were replaced in December 2012 (have receipt). This would also mean that the locking hubs and bearings were removed/accessible at the time to be able to get to the ball joints and axle seals so I assume they were all greased and inspected as well. It has a Magnaflow Exhaust system that has a deep aggressive tone at idle but is not obnoxiously loud going down the road. It has the single factory pipe going into the muffler after the catalytic converter and then dual exhaust with polished tips out the back.

One of the main things that should separate this bronco from a lot of other 22 year old vehicles (especially lifted 4x4's) is that it drives straight and true without a lot of steering wander. The steering on this truck is very tight for its age due to many new components like the ball joints and a very recent alignment including caster adjustment, replacement of one of the caster cams, and a brand new drag link being installed (have receipts). The front axle is Fords “twin traction beam” independent type and the pivot bushings for the independent halves were also replaced in January 2014. The lift kit is a “complete” and quality kit meaning that it has all the components to adapt the rest of the truck to the lift and not cause problems later on. Some of the “cheap” lift kits consist mainly of blocks and spacers between the factory springs to position the truck higher but don't do anything correct the now changed steering geometry or driveline angles. If you don't correct the steering geometry you can have problems with the truck wanting to change directions when you hit a bump (“bump steer”) & not responding well to steering input and if you don't correct or compensate for the changed driveshaft angle you generally have problems with vibrations and parts wearing out prematurely. The kit on this truck is a “skyjacker” brand and I believe it to be 4” of lift. It was installed cleanly and looks to be professional. It has aftermarket tubular radius arms, leaf springs and coil springs were replaced (no spacer blocks). Radius arms, front axle components, and coil springs are powder coated red. It has a dropped/lengthened pitman arm to correct the steering geometry, rear axle shims to rotate the axle & correct the pinion/driveshaft angle, extended “earls” brand brake lines that are the stainless braided type and are higher quality and more expensive than some of the others, and the front and rear factory anti-sway bars are still intact and have been adapted with lowering brackets so that the bronco doesn't have a scary amount of lean when you go around a corner. It has 6 “pro comp” brand shocks (4 front, 2 rear) and 2 “pro comp” brand steering stabilizer shocks. The tires are 35x12.50x15 BF Goodrich All Terrain KO's and have roughly 60% front and 40% rear remaining tread. I just had them rebalanced by Discount Tire a couple weeks ago. They still have some slight vibration thats to be expected with 35” tires but its minimal. The Centerline brand wheels are in good overall condition and shine up well with only a few scuffs on them.

The interior of the Bronco is probably a lot cleaner than most. It has absolutely pristine OEM style brand new carpet with the correct jute backing and heel pad at the drivers feet. As a “custom”, I believe it may have come with rubber floor mats but it had older well worn carpet when I got it so I replaced it to sell. When the carpet was out I thoroughly scrubbed the floor boards before the new carpet went in. I also thoroughly scrubbed and steam cleaned the front and back seats. What this means for you is that you aren't getting a vehicle with 22 years of accumulated funk and odors. Everything is clean and dry. The rear sides have custom black padded vinyl panels that are in good shape and were done cleanly. The rear seat is stock, in good condition, and folds forward like it should. The front seats are out of a newer bronco (1995 I believe) and they fold forward and slide out of the way for access to the back seat like they should. They are in reasonably good condition but they both have a few cigarette burns on the bottom cushions (passenger side is worse) and the drivers bottom cushion has a small tear starting near one of the seams. The seats didn't look that bad until the new carpet made them look older by contrast. I bought some seat covers for them but they didn't fit and I ran out of time. If the front seats bother you, think of how good a new set of inexpensive seat covers would look with the rest of the interior. It would look almost like new. The dash is in good shape with one small crack about 1/2 ” on the passenger side. The Windshield is in good shape but the driver and passenger door window tint film has some scratches from years of rolling up and down (the actual door glass is in good shape). At some point in the past, someone has sealed the wing windows shut with black silicone. I assume it was for wind noise or a water leak. It was kind of a dumb thing to do but it doesn't catch your eye and although it bothers me that it was done I haven't really even noticed it since the windows roll up and down fine and newer cars don't have wing windows anyway. The rear side windows have a couple scratched areas on the tint film but nothing major. The rear glass does have scratches on the glass itself from going up and down against what may have been mud or grit on the outside of the tailgate (fairly common on these broncos). The stereo in this bronco is really nice, sounds clean, and will rattle your brain. It's fully capable of announcing your arrival several blocks before you actually get there. Combined with the big tires, lift kit, sun roof, etc, it really makes it a fun truck to drive and makes you feel about 10 years younger. The deck is a Pioneer and plays MP3 CD's but I don't think it has ipod or bluetooth. It is highly adjustable to completely tailor the sound, subwoofer, crossover points, etc, to your liking. There are 4 Alpine speakers ( 2 in the doors, 2 at the back seat) and a 15” Orion subwoofer in a box powered by a 600 watt Kenwood Amp. The subwoofer box can be removed in about 2 minutes if you want more space for camping or hauling gear and the rest of the stereo will still play with no problems. There are a few small sqeaks and rattles in the cab (probably from the subwoofer). No big deal, I just never got to them. I've forgotten to mention that I don't believe there to be any problems with the sunroof or top leaking water. I've never driven it in a rain storm but I have had it through the coin operated car wash pressure washer a few times and when I washed it for the ebay photos I ran the hose over the roof for a while intentionally and there were no leaks at all.

 

I probably like broncos too much for my own good. I've owned 5 of them (currently also own a 77), grew up in one, and had one as my first car. I worked at a ford dealer just after high school and these were new on the dealers lot at the time so I've always wanted a 92. This one was owned by a neighbor and I had seen it around a few times and knew I liked it so when it came up for sale I bought it. I've enjoyed fixing it up some and driving it but it really isn't practical for me to own two broncos so I've decided to let it go. It is by no means a perfect truck but I think if you are looking for a bronco in this year range (especially a lifted bronco) and have already seen a few you will probably agree that it is in good overall condition and that it is better than many you are likely to find. The Bronco has a clean Arizona title in my name with “Box A” selected which means “actual miles”. It it currently registered and driven. I will still be driving it so the miles will be a little higher than the odometer pic by the time the auction ends.

Remainder of the purchase price is due within 7 days of auction end. I must be paid by cash in person, actual cash deposited into my bank, or by a cashiers check from a major U.S. Bank. I will not release the bronco or title until I have actual cash in my hands or my bank tells me that all funds have safely cleared and are available for withdrawal so please plan ahead. The bronco must be picked up within 10 days of auction end and shipping is the buyers responsibility. The bronco is being sold as-is, where-is, no warranty expressed or implied. Its the buyers responsibility to research title and registration procedures in their area. I reserve the right to end this auction early and to sell the bronco locally. I don't have any reason to think that this bronco won't make the trip home to wherever you live, but unless you live reasonably close, I would recommend shipping it unless you just want the adventure of a road trip. By the time you pay for a plane ticket, gas, and lodging, and factor in the time it will take plus the chance of what it would cost if something were to go wrong on the trip (however unlikely that may be)... you would probably save yourself some money and time by just having it shipped plus you would still have a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on the odometer when it gets there and no additional wear and tear on the truck. I point this out just to suggest that you plan ahead and research shippers. The truck must be picked up within 10 days and if you delay in finding a shipper you will probably be unable to pick it up in time.

Feds looking into Ford Explorer exhaust leak complaints

There may be a burgeoning problem with exhaust leaks in the 2011-2014 model year Ford Explorer. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is examining multiple complaints of a gasoline smell in the cabin of these SUVs. However, the exact cause of this problem is still unknown.
"The agency is reviewing all available data and will take appropriate action as warranted," said a NHTSA spokesperson in an email to Automotive News. Owners seem to generally complain on the regulator's website of the smell entering the cabin through the air vents. At this time, the government organization has not yet opened an official investigation into the problem, though. When it does begin inspecting vehicles, NHTSA posts a detailed breakdown of its public data online.
Similar problems have been reported about the Explorer in the past, though. In 2013, Ford issued a recall for the 2013 model year of the SUV due to a fuel leak that could cause drivers to smell a gasoline odor and repaired them again later for another possible leak. In response to Autoblog's questions, Ford responded via email: "We are not aware of a NHTSA investigation. We are currently reviewing the case and in the event that any action is required, we will address it promptly."

Ford gets colorful with Mustang anniversary infographic

Preparing to celebrate its 50th birthday, the Ford Mustang has seen a lot of vehicle trends come and go, and this especially goes for paint colors. Using historical production data, Ford has managed to create an infographic dating back to 1967 that breaks down the three top Mustang colors for each year as well as calling out some of the more interesting trends and colors over the years.
Over its five generations, the Mustang has been offered in a seemingly endless rainbow - from Playboy Pink in '67 and color-changing Mystichrome on the 2004 Cobra - but the most popular has always been red, which is the color of choice for 21 percent of all Mustangs ever made. Almost every year since 1967, red has been among the top three colors for the Mustang, but other popular colors have included blue, white, brown and, most recently, black. There are even websites and registries available for people owning certain-color Mustangs.
As the all-new 2015 Mustang gets ready for its debut later this year, there's no telling what kind of exciting and/or wacky colors Ford has in store.
