1972 Ford Bronco. Frame Off Restro-mod! Fuel Injected 351w! Beautiful Restore! on 2040-cars
Denver, Colorado, United States
Relisted with Video and NO RESERVE!
This Early Bronco has been restored from the ground up. It is 100% rust free and ready to enjoy the summer! I started this project about 5 years ago and have lost interest. Time to move on to other things. Below is a list of the work that has been accomplished. This project started as a very rusty 1972 Bronco but it had some great components. The engine and transmission were previously rebuilt. The axles had 4.56 gears; the front Dana 44 had a posi and the rear Ford 9" had a Detroit locker. It also came with a 2" suspension lift. To start, I replaced the grill, tailgate, and bed section with take-offs from another Bronco. The fenders, kick panels, inner/outer rockers, front/rear door posts and outer quarters are reproduction pieces. After welding in all panels the body and frame were detached and media blasted. I painted the underside of the body and the frame with POR15. The body was reattached to the frame with a 1" body lift and then sent off for final body work and paint. When the Bronco returned I started on the engine and electrical. The previous owner had the engine and transmission rebuilt shortly before selling it. The engine was built with a mild RV cam and headers. The transmission was built with a shift kit and Art Carr deep oil pan. I decided to fuel inject the engine for better fuel mileage and reliability. I used a Ford Lightning 351w lower intake manifold and 1998 Ford Explorer GT-40 upper intake manifold, new 14lb injectors, truck fuel rail, new distributor and all new sensors to provide the basis for the fuel injection. I pulled it all together with a Ron Francis engine wiring harness and new aftermarket computer. I used a BCBroncos throttle cable and C4 kickdown bracket and cables to hook up the throttle and transmission. I used a Centech body harness to upgrade the rest of the electrical. I then moved on to fuel and brakes. I used BCBroncos' integrated fuel and brake line mounts and preformed fuel lines. The Bronco also got new brake lines. I used a BCBroncos 23 gallon fuel tank, which provides 10 gallons more than stock. New black reproduction bumpers and a Bestop soft top trim out the Bronco. The tailgate got a new stainless steel handle and license plate bracket. It also comes with a Bestop bikini top and STC soft doors that are uninstalled. The wheels are 15 inch Aluminum slots and the tires are 33 inch Dick Cepek mud terrains. A non matching spare is included in the sale. The interior has been upgraded with Beard bucket seats in front and a Toms Bronco fold and tumble rear seat. I installed adjustable 3-point seatbelts upfront and lap belts in the rear. I installed a Pioneer CD player into a Tuffy center console, JBZ kick panels in the front and custom inner quarter panels in the rear to house 4 component speakers, which is powered by a hidden 300 watt Rockford Fosgate amplifier. A four point roll cage finishes the interior. Altogether, this is a great looking classic Early Bronco. It runs, drives and stops great and it will handle just about any trail you could throw at it. There are a few things that could be finished up but then again, it is a 42 year old truck! Although the heater has been rebuilt and reinstalled, the cable actuated controls need to be installed. Also, the transmission temperature sensor needs to be installed. The Bestop soft top is an early style top that utilizes snaps for the rear window. I didn't want to install the snaps into the newly painted tailgate so I purchased a stainless steel tailgate protector to install the snaps onto instead. The tailgate protector is uninstalled but included with the sale. The mileage on the Bronco's odometer shows 5660 and is not the actual mileage. The actual mileage on the drivetrain is unknown but there are less than 500 miles on the body after it was painted. I've kept most of the documentation collected throughout the restore and it is included in the sale. I'm happy to answer any and all questions. New shocks were installed after the photos were taken; they are Pro Comp shocks. You can see the build from start to almost finish HERE. Below you'll find an itemized list of upgrades and work completed. Some of the fuel injection work was completed at Bronco Hut in Castle Rock, CO. I'm sure they could also answer any questions regarding the FI conversion and the Bronco's drivability. These horribly misguided front-drive design studies nearly became the Mustang
Fri, 08 Nov 2013As we eagerly await the unveiling of the all-new sixth-generation Mustang, Ford has been giving us some great information over the past few months showing what has gone into shaping its venerable pony car. As many changes as the Mustang has gone through in its 50 years, though, it appears the fourth-gen model played a decisive and pivotal role in the car's future.
As is part of Mustang lore, the front-wheel drive Ford Probe was originally developed as a next-generation Mustang in the Eighties before cooler heads prevailed. The Blue Oval has just released a handful of images showing how bad things could have been - including a full-scale clay model of a front-wheel-drive Mustang (shown above). Fortunately, the FWD Mustang plan was scrapped and Ford went to work designing a rear-wheel-drive replacement for the Fox Body Mustang, with three design studies making it far enough to become full-scale models. These include the soft "Bruce Jenner" Mustang, the over-the-top "Rambo" Mustang and the middle-ground "Arnold Schwarzenegger" Mustang, which finally became the basis for the 1994 'Stang.
By early 1991, the design language of the fourth-generation Mustang had been worked out, and the rest, they say, is history. Scroll down for the fascinating press release telling the story of the fourth-gen Mustang, and be sure to check out the gallery of horribly misguided sketches and various design studies that were all on the table in the late 1980s.
Why 2015 is going to be a huge year for trucks
Thu, Jan 22 2015Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn took center stage to introduce the 2016 Titan last week at the Detroit Auto Show. He spoke of the truck's new features, impressive Cummins V8 diesel engine and the extensive amount of time and money required to build a modern, competitive pickup truck. "We have done all of this because we see opportunity – an opportunity in the unmet needs of today's American truck customers," Ghosn said. He was speaking about the Titan, but his thoughts echo the industry's mindset: When it comes to trucks, find an opportunity and attack. Even with CAFE regulations looming and fickle consumer preferences, investing in trucks is a no-brainer for automakers. Some consumers will always need a truck for their job or lifestyle. And some people will always want one, whether they need it or not. With that in mind, here are four reasons why the pickup-truck sector is more important than ever and poised for growth in 2015. View 24 Photos The Nissan Titan Is Back Okay, it never left, but the Titan hadn't been redesigned since its launch in 2003, and Nissan sold more NV200s than Titans in 2014. It's an understatement to say the truck was languishing. That all changes with the 2016 model. The Titan will come in two variants, a traditional fullsize competitor and the Titan XD. The XD will lead the market launch, and it arrives late this year. It's pitched as a "whitespace" offering, Nissan sales and marketing vice president Fred Diaz said. The idea is to offer something in the general size and price range of a fullsize truck, but also have some of the capability of a heavy-duty truck. The XD uses a fully boxed ladder frame, the chassis design from Nissan's commercial division, and the wheelbase is about 20 inches longer than other Titan models. The XD, which Nissan is calling the flagship of the line, will be the only model with the 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V8. It produces 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, while being able to tow 12,000 pounds. V6 and V8 gasoline models will also be offered on the Titan XD and the standard, non-XD model. When production ramps up, the Titan will be sold with several cabs, beds and trims. New features include trailer sway control, an integrated trailer brake controller, more storage options in the cabin and even laminated front and rear side glass to reduce outside noise. All of this has given Nissan fresh confidence in an area where it admittedly has been lacking. "We can compete," Diaz told Autoblog.
Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls
Tue, 04 Nov 2014
Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
