Bred from the rich postwar history of Fiat and its competition counterpart, Abarth, Fiat Chrysler reintroduced the Fiat 500 Abarth to US showrooms in 2012. It had been a long time since US drivers had access to a small, easy-to-park Italian package. Mini's Cooper S provided Fiat Chrysler with the market research, and like Burger King locating next to a McDonald's, Fiat's 500 Abarth was ushered into US showrooms. With the 500 delivering just over 100 horsepower, the Abarth (a-BART) supplies a full 160 horsepower to the front wheels, along with an oh-so-flexible 170 pound-feet of torque. Driving through a five-speed manual (or available automatic), and planted on a short 90-inch wheelbase, the 500 Abarth offers the engagement your friends (prior to the iPhone) used to provide. Our 'for sale' 2015 example, located in Prescott, Arizona, looks to be in good cosmetic condition. With but 24,000 miles it should have plenty of high-revving life left in it. We'd always suggest a pre-purchase inspection, and those with rural zip codes should consider Fiat dealer support. The Mack Avenue Engine Plant is one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' most historic and prolific factories. It pumped out 260,000 Pentastar V6 engines last year, providing power for everything from the Jeep Grand Cherokee to the Dodge Challenger. FCA and its predecessor, Chrysler, has owned the factory since 1953 and it briefly built the Dodge Viper in the 1990s. It's made engines since 1998 and began building the Pentastar in 2014. What a 28.5-liter LSR engine sounds like firing up for the first time in 100 years

Racecars seem to keep getting quieter these days, and if electric vehicles and fuel cells ever fully take over motorsports, then the bang, pop and growl of internal combustion engines may be gone for good. This clip of a Fiat S76 land speed record racer awaking after over a century of being dormant shows just what we would miss so much. The four-cylinder engine in this Fiat displaces about 28.5 liters, making it among the largest automotive engines ever, and it gives each cylinder around as much capacity as the whole mill in a Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. Once this thing starts firing with no exhaust in place, the look and sound is like a demon at work with a rain of fire and sparks. This clip is just the trailer for a documentary called the Beast of Turin chronicling the history of this period of racing. The movie also focuses on the rebuild and restoration of the S76 after over 100 years. If the rest of the film lives up to this tease, then it looks like something to watch for.
