1948 Fiat Woodie Street Rod Cover Car , Same Owner 45 Years, Needs Reassembly on 2040-cars

1948 Fiat
Topolino Woodie Street Rod. Multiple magazine
Cover Car….one of the rarest woodie street rods in the world….. needs
reassembly. ORIGINAL OWNER/BUILDER 45
YEARS ago MUST SELL. Always in dry
storage…wood in excellent condition. The facts: I purchased the body of this
car in 1969 from Sam Foose when his shop was in Goleta Ca. Chip was about 6-10
years old and around his dads shop a lot as I built the car. It took me about 5
years to complete the car and it was really something in its day. It was on the
cover of Rod and Custom Magazine in 1977 and various other publications around
that time. I did the Southern California show car and street rod circuit for
its first year. The car won its class every time (12 shows) and was best of
show in 3 shows. By today’s standards of building it would be considered a bit
crude, but 40 years ago it really held its own. Little John Buttera , in 1977,
told me it was one of the “bitchenist” cars he had ever seen…as a young
builder, I thought I had died and gone to street rod heaven when he said this
to me. In 1976 I married my wife and we
left the wedding in this car…yes I have many pictures of this car and its
history along with magazines articles. I have pictures of my two daughters in
the car when they were just babies, they are now over thirty. The car needs to
find a new life, but I’m keeping my wife and married daughters! But time
marches on and like so many similar stories. My life just sort of went off in different
directions raising a family and a business and the car sat unused, under a car
cover in the garage…..except a few mice set up house and lived in it for a
while…and you know what mice can do….and they did. So in a burst of creative
energy, I told myself that I was going to rebuild the car to its former glory, only
better. I got rid of the straight axel frame and was going to fabricate a new,
trick, independent version of the car. That was 15 years ago….and that’s where
it is today…..in pieces, but no new frame.
I kept the ford Cleveland engine which has only about 2,500 original
miles on it from new (not rebuilt) It came out of a Torino with only 1,200
miles at the time. I have probably not even put 1,200 miles on the car since I
built it. The oil pan is a custom deep sump. The front pullys are driven with a
gilmer type belt. I still have a lot of
the chrome and polished pieces with bolts and accessories. I still have the
original rear rims with the Firestone Indy tires (Don’t run these….too old). I am
able to get the Canadian 37 Ford tube front axle back from my friend. The engine
should be like new inside since it has virtually no miles on it. I believe it
is a 1973. As you can
see from the pictures, this car was built to flip up like a funny car when it
is parked, showing all the chassis. There are too many custom features to
mention. The dash panel is made from African embouya wood. The doors are
suicide. The rear door is electric. The front grill is 37 Ford. The hood is
made from a 1939 Cadillac front fender. The sunroof is a slide back unit. The body has No rust. The wood is
excellent. This body could be slipped on
to a T-bucket frame for a quicker project. This is a
piece of Hot Rod history that I think needs to be rebuilt and used…something
that I have come to the realization; I am not going to do. |

Ram and Fiat working on possible midsize pickup for global markets
Wed, Mar 25 2015The midsize pickup segment is enjoying a recent boom globally, with updated models like the new Ford Ranger on the way and a revised Toyota Hilux already testing. The next automaker to take the plunge into the market might be FCA with this recently spotted, highly camouflaged truck. Click through the gallery to see the pickup wearing two different disguises during cold-weather testing. Unfortunately, they keep the truck very well hidden, and even the bed is covered in both of them. Still, it appears that the front end wears a fairly upright design, and the four-door cab is obvious. Also, take a look at the rear to spot coil springs for the suspension, rather than leaf springs. According to our spies, this vehicle's size is larger than the current front-wheel drive Fiat Strada and is closer in dimensions to models like the Ranger and Hilux. Of course, the most intriguing question is whether FCA might bring this vehicle to the US as a Ram competitor against the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. The company's five-year plan makes no mention of such a model here through at least 2018, though. However, Europe and South America are set to receive a midsize pickup in 2016. Perhaps, that's what we are seeing here. Related Video: Featured Gallery Fiat-Ram Pickup Spy Shots View 14 Photos Image Credit: CarPix Design/Style Spy Photos Fiat RAM Truck FCA
Fiat hangs ten with surf-inspired 500L Vans concept
Sat, 26 Jul 2014Fiat is all set to ride some waves with its new 500L Vans Concept debuting at the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA, on July 26. Inspired by the famous shoe company known to skaters and surfers the world over, the hatchback is packed with seaside style and is ready to show it off at the beach.
The first thing that jumps out about the concept is its grille. It's unlike any other 500L and sports four rings of LED driving lights that are open in the centers. "We added the circular LED DRLs to add a sense of purpose and adventure to this concept," said a Fiat spokesperson to Autoblog via email. Below them are two more foglights, and combined together they should be able keep a party going long into the night after a day of surfing.
Beyond a ton of lighting, the Vans Concept has some extra panache thanks to its three-tone color scheme. It starts with dark blue outlining the car along the bottom, white for the main portion of the body and a lighter shade of blue for the hood, mirror caps and tops of the doors. The roof gets the shoe company's' traditional checkerboard pattern, and there's a rack up there to hold two surfboards and extra gear.
Fiat recalling 500e for faulty power inverter
Sat, 10 May 2014Chrysler is recalling 4,141 Fiat 500e models from the 2013 and 2014 model years because they could lose power. According to the automaker, the power inverter module could allow coolant to seep onto electrical components. This could cause a short circuit and power loss. The part in question is responsible for altering the electric current.
The company discovered the problem while reviewing warranty claims, and it found five cases where the fault actually occurred. It's not aware of any injuries or accidents tied to this issue. The recall affects cars built between September 24, 2012, and April 4, 2014, and all of them are in the US. Chrysler will contact owners directly to schedule the repair.
This is the second recall for the electric hatchback. Chrysler previously had to repair more than 270 of them last year to replace bolts that secure the vehicles' half shafts.
